You'll hear on the 15th of this month supposedly.
If you're in, that's when you hear. If you're rejected, they'll do it before that most likely. If you're deferred, you won't hear anything.

*I think that's how it works.

so, how about on the flipside? what if you received the "admissions committee has met..." email very quickly post-interview? does that mean they've banished you to the waitlist already b/c your score was nowhere near their acceptance cut-off, but good enough not to get rejected?

i got the hold email exactly a week after my interview. i've been reading so much about people not getting the hold message until a few days before the acceptance date and getting in, but i haven't heard about anyone that got the hold email immediately post-interview and getting in?

help quiet down the premed anxiety! 😛

I don't think many of us actually know what goes on, but it just sounds like you get the 'admissions committee has met' message after your interviewer presents your file to the committee. It just sounds like it depends on when your interviewer can make it to the meeting.

thanks, you're right. i know a lot of what goes on is purely speculation here. i can't help but to resort to finding patterns, common denominators, anything reassuring about this entire process!

Fortunately, there is no merit to that concern at all. They are inconsistent about updating the information in the database and often defer it to right before the offer date. They can't defer it past that point because everyone has to be on hold before the offer date.

You were just lucky to find out earlier that you didn't have to worry about rejection. Nothing more to it than that.

has anyone experienced any luck with rescheduling their interview date for something earlier?

I'm in the same boat and have the same fear! I began looking at the 2008-2009 thread for possible answers and it kind of looked that way from the few people that were in that situation on sdn. The good side is that most of those got accepted. The bad side is the acceptance often came much later and after being first placed on a waitlist. Ahh this is why I need a more productive hobby than SDN! Anyways this is all speculation and I am trying to believe that there is no correlation between hold date and acceptance date. I guess we will find out in less than 100 hours! :luck:

wow, we are on the same neurotic boat!! 😛 i was doing the same exact thing, looking for any sort of reassurance from previous applicants about the meaning behind an immediate post-interview hold. i am so relieved to know i'm not the only crazy one.

yes, i was able to switch to an earlier date. my original date was sometime in 2010, but i called the admissions office and they changed it to november. this was back in october. it's worth a shot! give them a call.

I think VCU was trying to calm us neurotic premeds by being very methodical and (kind of) transparent in their process - tell us they got our amcas, send prescreened secondary, tell us when we are complete, give us a pre-int score, let us know immediately if we are rejected and if we are not rejected then tell us the exact possible dates and time to expect hearing if we are admitted.

Unfortunately, I think it is having the exact opposite effect. By knowing exactly when to expect hearing if you get in makes me do nothing but count down the days and think of nothing but getting into VCU! I haven't been this antsy since waiting for my mcat :scared:

lol well said. I'd rather know exactly when I'll find out rather than wondering "will i know tomorrow? Next week? 2 months from now?? 5 MONTHS?????" which is exactly what im doing for 20 something other schools post secondary...

Good luck everyone who's waiting!! I'm hoping for some good news too!! :xf: By far my top school!

is there any benefit to having an earlier interview date over a later one at VCU? are students who interview earlier more likely to be accepted? I'm nto sure exactly of how it works.

There is no advantage. I interviewed fairly late for the last round of acceptances and got in, and I also know people who interviewed early and got in. In the end, it's all about your priority score, regardless of when they get to you.

I am so bummed out! i got this email a few hrs ago, and have been sad !.. this is the status on my VCU page....I REALLY wanted to got to VCU but do't think dat willl be happening... goodluck to the rest of u guys!

The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision.

One day people! Be watching out for that status update ~6:05 pm tomorrow night. And be sure to join the facebook group when you get in!

It's something like MCV/VCU Class of 2014. There aren't very many people - that'll change tomorrow!

I interviewed on Dec 1st. Does anyone know if I will receive something on Dec 15th?

I put

MCV/VCU Class of 2014

into the search bar of Facebook, and it didn't come up.

A little help?🙂

Starting to get really nervous about tomorrow...

But I might be working when the updates come out and not be able to find out until 11:30. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

its tomorrow!!!! 28 more hours!! my hopes are back down a little specially cuz i got the hold pretty soon after my interview but stillllll i really want this acceptance before the new year :luck:

I still don't even have the hold, and that bothers me a little.

Not to get your hopes up too much but just wait until tonight... many of the most successful people on sdn get the hold status the day before the acceptances come out! I got a very quick Hold - exactly 1 week after my interview. I am really trying to not get my hopes up because I fear its a sign of a future waitlist but hopefully it's nothing more than sdn paranoia! :scared:

I hope all of us on here that are anxiously waiting for tomorrow get the early xmas present that we want more than anything! :xf::luck::xf::luck::xf:

Don't worry. I received the hold status a day before I got accepted. The day is still young, and there is still time for you to get the message.

Good luck!

if you dont have the hold by 3pm (west coast time) today then you might have interviewed more recently and they'll get to you in February.. either way you dont need to worry as long as you're not rejected 😉

i really hope thats not true! im in the same boat as you and have gotten too many rejections in the past week and today so im really really really hoping the day of the hold doesnt matter and they liked me enough to not let me wait :xf::xf:

I'll say this again in case anyone's listening this time: That's not true. There is no correlation between when you get the hold message and whether or not you are finally accepted. Getting the hold message just tells you that you haven't been rejected and that you're eligible for acceptance at the next offer date.

So My status page just got changed to include a survey. Does that mean they have already given me a priority score and made a decision on my application and I can hear something tomorrow? Please help anyone

when did you interview?!

if they just gave you the survey it probably means they are just starting to review your file! im not so sure but I think they give out the survey first and then they review your file and most of the time survey comes pretty soon after but you interviewed pretty recently so no need to worry.. you might get on hold later this week and then hear on the next batch!! anyway hope its good news 🙂

did anyone get holded today?!

But I do not understand. They hold adcomm meetings every Monday and it's been two Mondays since my interview. If what you are saying is true, that means I won't be getting my hold status until at least next Monday?

acutally i got mine on a wednesday or a thursday, so the committe might have already discussed your file but hasn't put you on hold yet! i was also told that our file will be reviewed on monday btw..

Got it! Thanks

Today is the day! Good luck to everybody.

Unfortunately, I'll have all day to stress over this and when it actually does or doesn't happen, I'll be at work until 11pm.

Does anybody know approx what time status' get updated?

Status updates should be sent at approximately 6:05 P.M. However, I think that I ended up getting mine at like 6:07 or something like that, so those of you who don't get an update at exactly 6:05, don't panic right away.

I think I might almost be as excited as the rest of you. I can't wait to see who else will be joining us in the class of 2014. Good luck everyone - just a few more hours!

I know how you feel! I'll be working until 11pm too. So, hopefully a silent celebration until I get off and then the real celebration begins!

Good Luck everyone!

hey folks. i interviewed back in early october and was placed on hold on the 16th. i was blessed with one of these:

"The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16."

I've definitely been counting down the days as well, so I understand the neurotic compulsions n what not everyone's been enjoying. hoping to hear some good news t'night, but low expectations are key 🙂. good luck to everyone whose waiting to hear tonight!
