wait a minute, what "decision has been made" status are we talking about here? I thought that, after the interview survey page, there was only one possible status update to have before admission/rejection/wait-listing, which is the

"The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16.

You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in late-March, or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

We thank you for your interest in our school."

Is this the message you're referring to? It never explicitly says that a decision has been made, hence my confusion.

it was late and i was posting quickly. yes that is the status i have.

To everyone that is still waiting...have you guys tried emailing Dr. W-H Cook/admissions office asking if students with similar priority scores as yours got an acceptance from previous cycles?
I was browsing thru previous cycle's forum and Dr. W-H Cook answered that question but i don't know if its still too early to ask that now...what do you guys think?

haha, I am actually thinking about the same thing. I might call and ask for my priority score post-interview. Has anyone called and found out?

hey. this thread is ridiculously long. can anyone post where someone explained how people are judged for admission post-interview again? i know it's been discussed in here somewhere.

We need a sticky for this.

This thread is about 2 years old, but I think it can still explain a lot about the process.

Is that priority score higher than 3.5=reject thing still valid?

I'm trying to figure out what my post-interview score is.
I interviewed way back in October, and I'm still waiting..I think I had a 4 pre-interview though..so best case scenario for me is a 2.5, and I don't think my interview went well enough for that, especially with my stats being thrown up for adcom to judge.

P.S. has anyone called admissions and asked about their post-interview score?

Your pre-interview priority score is independent from your post-interview score. You could still get a 1 on your post-interview priority score.

I recently emailed Dr. Whitehurst-Cook to ask whether I was on the waitlist since I interviewed in early September and have been on hold ever since. She wrote me back saying that my Committee Score would most likely land me on the waitlist, but didn't specify anything else about my score and whether people with my score got in last year. Anyway, to those of you wondering if she responds, she does! The response was disconcerting, but at least now I know I'm in for a lot more waiting...😳

Thanks for letting us know. I think im gonna do the same. Would you mind sharing what you essentially asked her? Did you ask if students during previous years got in with a similar priority score as yours?

I basically explained my situation and asked if there was still a possibility of getting in on the March decision date or whether that meant that I had been waitlisted. I also asked her to explain the waitlist process in more detail (what factors are taken into consideration, etc.) and specifically whether people with similar Committee Scores were accepted last year. She didn't answer the specific questions, but did answer my first question. Hope this helps!

What is Dr. Whitehurst-Cook's email? I need to find out fairly quickly in order to avoid the deposit from another school.

is there a deadline for sending in the transcript? or any other deadline other than the $100 deposit? thanks =)

I know that sending in a letter of interest / updates regarding recent activities does very little to influence the admissions committee's decision, however, I would still like to submit one. I would just like to know where to send it to. I know this has already been asked - I can't find the previous post.

Thanks.

Hey Point Break,

What is your application status?

Does it say something like "we have reviewed your file...we will be making announcements on 10/15, 12/15 etc..." or do you still have the 'post-interview survey" page?

I think hotcocoa is referring to the first application status as the "hold" status...

I think...😛

I have the standard hold message - it only says I have been reviewed and placed on hold - it makes no mention of whether a decision has been made.

I don't think there is a deadline for sending in the transcript, yet. I would submit the deposit and complete the matriculation within 14 days of your acceptance. Once your submit your deposit, your acceptance page changes so save the page before you pay up.

I wish i knew that earlier, i sent in the deposite already!!!

anyone has the acceptance page? so i can copy and save it, thanks =)

I'm guessing pretty much all hope is lost now for getting an interview invitation, right? I was put in the small pool a while ago but it looks like they're pretty much done sending out invites. Anyone want to confirm this or provide me with additional info? Thanks!

does anyone know if they eventually send a hard copy acknowledging acceptance via snail mail?

@cho: I think all the interview slots are filled up because as I recall on their status page in November, most were filling up fast.

@hotcocoa: No snail mail. Just the status page acknowledging your acceptance.

Cho, I contacted the admissions office a few days ago, and basically they said they were attempting to contact M4's for their availability to interview, but basically if you haven't heard back by the middle of February then its game over for VCU (that is this year ;-) I'm in that same small pool as you, so I've been avidly checking my email and my status update page for a sign but no luck 🙁

Wait, so she told you had a chance of getting in the next decision date?

man...how u get her to answer you so clearly? she just told me to wait until march 16th. so that probably mean im so low in priority score she doesn't even know ill get in wait list?

dont be so negative, that could also mean you are potentially getting in on march 16th 😉

At least she answered you... after reading all this talk of getting more info on our chances of getting in, I gave in and sent an email against my better judgement. I am greatly regretting my decision to do so since its been a week with absolutely NO reply. Now I just come off as a neurotic, desperate (unfit to be a dr) applicant - :scared:.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if I get rejected come March 16. This is totally one of those decisions in life that makes me wish I can rewind time. 🙁

Take a deep breath. Your priority score pre and post-interview have already been set in stone. Sending this email will have no bearing on whether or not you get accepted, rejected, or waitlisted on March 16th. I understand why you would be upset, but rest assured that sending the email did not effect your chances negatively. Dr. WC is incredibly busy. Don't take her lack of response as a bad thing. Lastly, good luck on March 16th! I hope you get in👍

Don't worry dadocca. I'm sure that Dr. WC is super busy. Maybe a lot of people wrote her after reading my post and she got bombarded with emails. It's hard to be in this limbo situation, but we have to stay positive. I wish the process could be so transparent that we could know our chances of getting in now.

Thanks guys. I know I am over reacting a bit but believe me ever since I sent that email I feel like the wait for March 16 is taking twice as long! Also I know it won't change my score for that day but it might have some effect right after. I don't think it would hurt me too much but I guess only time will tell. For now, I am going to try my best to not look on this thread until next month

Hey guys,
In an effort to procrastinate I decided to check studentdoc for the first time since my application cycle, and felt compelled to respond because I saw that a lot of people have posted that it's game over for VCU if you haven't gotten an interview invitation yet. I realize that it's different every year, but last year I was called on Friday March 6th to ask me to come in for an interview on Monday March 9th and then received my acceptance on their last date which was Monday March 16th. I don't want to give anyone false hope, I'm just saying that that anything is possible.

Good luck!:luck:

I cant find it in my info from the school so could anyone tell me when the white coat ceremony is this fall/what day we would first need to be there. Trying to figure out if I could do ODS this summer if I end up getting into VCU and went there.

Ok, so I found a link to the VCU accepted students thread a few weeks ago and for the life of me I can't find that post, nor can I find the thread myself! Can someone please post the link or tell me how to find this thread on sdn??? Thanks!

Just go to the Allopathic forum and search MCV 2014. It'll pop up.

Thanks for letting me know. It's so frustrating because I interviewed at VCU last year and I definitely improved my candidacy by a lot I think and yet small pooled was all I got this year. Totally not fair...I hope I get a stroke of luck too.

After being #1 priority since September, interview invite today. Anyone know how many spots and why it took so long?

sorry. I think people have asked this over and over, but if my application has been placed on hold post-interview, what does that mean? is that a good thing? is there a way for me to get more information? does forgetting to fill out the survey count negatively on our part?

How are you able to tell what # priority you are?

I've had this since December:

The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

this is number 3 😉

its definitely a good thing! it means you were not rejected 👍

I'm in the same boat but I did not hear anything Feb 1st. I hope this is good news but realistically does that mean a waitlist ?? I really loved this school and the support from faculty and staff. The atmosphere seemed so warm...

Yeah I've received the same hold status as well. I was worried that I might be rejected. Thank goodness for that.

For those who have interviewed...need quick feedback. Just got an interview invite... On the scheduling system, it has openings for one-hour blocks for the interview. I have to be at work back in DC in the afternoon so I was thinking about taking one of the morning ones. Question: How long is the whole interview day? Is it really just an hour-long interview and you're done? The quicker response the better so I can go ahead and sign up for a spot. Thanks.

from what i remember, there is a section where you meet the faculty that everyone attends, followed by a tour and lunch. you will be interviewed either before or after that 11-1 block (not sure on the exact times). so it's not a full day, but you'll be there for some hours.

I had the early morning one, I think it was at 8 or 9? Anyway I was back in DC around 2pm. I guess you don't have to stay for the tour and lunch but I did.

Thanks. I scheduled a 9:00 and just might have to be a little bit late to work in the afternoon.
