Hey guys, I've never posted before but this time I feel I have to...

Got a call this morning... ACCEPTED! So stoked about VTC. 😀😀😀

I interviewed on the second weekend. Good luck to all of you waiting to hear something!

Congrats! That makes me extremely nervous now... I interviewed the same weekend...

Congratulations! I still have yet to hear anything/receive a packet in the mail after 3 weeks now other than the initial acceptance call and email. Anyone else get anything in the mail yet?

just got the call...woot woot im gonna be a doctor!

i also interviewed the second weekend

From the phrasing, it sounded like I shouldn't expect anything in the mail until after the holidays. I don't know if this is the case with those who interviewed on the first weekend though.

I interviewed the first weekend, and got my acceptance call around Dec. 1 or 2...I just received an e-mail today stating that my official acceptance packet, including the "award notification" is now being FedExed to me.

Anyone else still waiting on the next round of interviews???

Anyone else still waiting on the next round of interviews???

Received an email from VTC this morning inviting me to their next interview day (Saturday, January 16). Naturally, I accepted!

I'm wishing you best of luck, Spencer11.

Anyone else get an email from VTC today/recently for the January 16 interview?

just got my interview invite for january 16th... looking forward to it... i live right in town so if anyone interviewing that day wants to grab some dinner afterwords, i would be up for showing you around... good luck to all!

Got an interview invite for the 16th!

Excited to meet ya'll. Anyone else Hokies already?

Hey everyone
For VTCSOM, in the past have they sent out interview invites for a particular interview date on one day (aka yesterday) or over a few days? Also based on past interview invites any idea of the approx GPA/MCAT for the school?

Thanks

An e-mail!

I've been placed in the Active Applicant Pool. Anyone else get this?

I'm with you on that one... I was hoping for better news from my alma mater... Better than a flat out rejection though!

I got that email too. I'm pretty much just assuming its almost certain rejection.

From the VTC website:

"Additional acceptances will be sent out approximately a month after each interview weekend. Some students not offered an initial acceptance will be notified that they [are] still in the consideration process."

I got the same email and interviewed the second weekend. I thought the interview went really well and from what I remember they said they would have the first 42 people picked by mid january. If that is true, it seems like we will be judged again alongside people who interviewed in December. After that they'll offer more seats once people start dropping from the list of 42. Since you only have two weeks to get back to them with a decision, the class should be booked by the middle of February or so.

Granted, what they told me could have changed considering theyre offering interviews clear out until March, so I guess we'll see.

Edit: also, for those asking for basic stats of people who have interviewed already. GPA 3.4 MCAT 35 went to UVa undergrad. I'd really like to know the stats of you accepted kids!

I wonder if anyone who interviewed did NOT get the email. Stats: I was not accepted, but was interviewed, and mine are MCAT=40 and GPA=3.65

Wow congrats on a killer MCAT score.

Got the scholarship offer last week for full first year tuition. That is really generous and makes the cost almost exactly the same as VA public schools.

I got the offer last week, too...did you read it as a one-year-only offer, because we will be eligible for federal loans after the first year? Or, might there be a possibility of it being renewed yearly? Obviously a generous offer either way 🙂

P.S. Stats are 3.54 GPA, 32R MCAT.

I took it to mean it was for first year only. I'm a little unclear what the stipulations are for federal loans. I may try to contact them in the next week or so. It would be great to have the chance to get it renewed. Either way, having only living expenses for the first year would be really awesome.

If you call them, I would be interested to hrar what you find out. The scholarship is pretty tempting, but the school's pretty far away (I'm from Pittsburgh). How interested are you in the school? Have you heard anything negative about faculty recruitment? I heard something about some of the faculty being less than thrilled about having to commute from Blacksburg to Roanoke.

Honestly, the only negative things I've heard about the school/faculty recruitment/Carilion have been on SDN, but I don't know any tech students or even ppl from that part of the state so I don't really know how else I would find out. Some of the things I've heard do concern me, but I don't think anything has really shocked me. Most of it is pretty much what one would expect for a new school, "growing pains" if you will.

Pros:
faculty I met seem very excited
seems well-funded
pass/fail grading
innovative fun-sounding curriculum
personal attention from faculty in PBL sessions (could lead to better rec letters later on)
Close to mountains and outdoorsy activities
low cost of living in Roanoke

Cons:
rumors of town/gown problems with Carilion
rumors of faculty recruitment problems
may require travel to Blacksburg
school isn't actually built yet and feels kinda corped-out to me (no idyllic campus setting)

I didn't see VTCSOM on the SDN's Interview Feedback List. I am interviewing on Jan 16th and was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on what their interview was like? What kind of scenarios did they give you? What other kinds of questions did they ask? Thanks!

Look around page 6-7 of this thread. We can't talk about specifics because of the NDA. That packet of sample questions they send out is a pretty good guide though.

Thanks! I haven't received the packet yet, so I'll look forward to that! BTW, what is the NDA?

Non-disclosure Agreement. When I got the invite by email the sample questions were in an attachment. Are they not doing that anymore? Also googling multiple mini interview was pretty helpful too.

Have all accepted students received one?

It sounds like both myself and not so calm now received the same one. No idea if it will be offered to all accepted students or not...there was no mention of that in the letter.

Well I finally got around to submitting my secondary as I added this school late. Only have two interview dates left, but I feel like I had really good answers to these essays, so hopefully they're leaving some room at the Feb/Mar interview dates for people that submitted by the Jan. 15th deadline. Wishful thinking I guess - but at least, unlike other schools, if I haven't heard from them by late Feb. then I know its a no-go unlike most other schools!

So after calling the admissions office about the "active applicant pool", I have learned the following:

1. Everyone not receiving one of the 42 initial invites gets the email that they are in the active applicant pool.

2. All 42 initial invites go out without further consideration of those put in the active applicant pool after the first two interview weekends.

3. The applicants in the pool will be reevaluated at the end of January and again at the end of February. After the March deadlines for acceptances, the official waitlist will be formed where the applicants are finally ranked.

Things to keep your head up about:

1. Only 42 invitations. Most schools send out 30%-40% more invites than spots after their initial rounds of interviews (at a certain point you interview just to get on the waitlist).

2. It's a new school that has only preliminary accreditation. This may cause some applicants with many choices to avoid making this their top option. I personally think it doesn't really matter, but I do know that this is a factor for some.

Please feel free to correct or comment on any of this if you know any more info!

So if you interviewed within the first two interview weekends you have a higher chance of being accpeted??

Does anyone know when the December 5th group is suppose to hear their decisions? Or are they sent one by one after the first two weekends?

Hi all

Congratulations to all that were accepted and good luck to the rest of us that are still waiting to be invited for an interview. (I'm waiting too) 🙂

Thanks KTDseven77...I have also been accepted and offered the same deal, so I was just curious as to whether anyone on the forum knew if it was standard for all accepted applicants.

Hi licorice, congratulations on your acceptance! Have you decided if you will attend VTC yet? ALso, have you heard anything about a possible second look weekend?

does anyone know when the next round of interview invitations should come in?

So I'm interviewing on the 16th and still haven't received this alleged packet of information. Has anyone gotten theirs?😕

I didn't get it either, so I called the office and they emailed it to me.

I just called and got different information from ms. sherman regarding #1. I specifically asked if everyone got into the active candidate pool and she said no. they've accepted some, rejected some, and some are in the 'pool' -- what did you exactly hear?

I didn't get it either, so I called the office and they emailed it to me.

Yeah, I just called them and they're gonna send it to me. I hope this means they got my RSVP. 😱

brownsoul,

I also asked the admissions office specifically about whether everyone not accepted was put in the active applicant pool. For some of my other questions they had to ask other people and get back to me, so the people I talked to might not have all the right information in front of them. I'm glad you called as well because it looks like you got some better info!

They told me it would arrive around Jan 1. It got here on Jan 11th. Looks like it is going to be a fun interview!
