I think what really helped though was three update letters, one letter of intent, and a phone call. they really like you to show them how much you want to be there.

🙂 You give me hope.. I only had a 29 MCAT.... I've sent them a update letter and letter intent plus called twice so far.. and a doctor and PI/doctor I work for also called on my behalf... ::keeps fingers crossed::

I imagine that this will be a big week. Good luck fellow waitlisters. Remember that every new acceptance means that the waitlist is just that much shorter and just that much closer to you or me. Congratulations to everyone who has already been accepted. Let's keep them coming!

I know.. I cannot wait.. ::crosses fingers, toes, arms and legs:: I have no acceptances and three waitlists.. I'm hopign WF comes through though because I really liked the school and love North Carolina. Hopefully my letter of update, 3 letters of intent and 3-4 phone calls will mean something. I'm so nervous.
 
Has anyone heard anything? It seems pretty quiet on here as of late. 😕 I called this week just to make sure they got my letter but apparently Irene is out of town this week so maybe that is playing a role in the lack of movement?

So I guess it would be useless to call and ask where I stand on the waitlist, which I was planning to do this week...
 
It looks like Irene took a holiday about this time last year, too. Whether or not she's really "out-of-town" is irrelevant. I suspect they're just trying to keep things simple until they can sort this waitlist business out. I know it's hard not to pester them. I'm aching to hear from Wake Forest, too. This is like a nightmarish 3-day rule.

Yeah... I feel you.. I used the "just calling encase the e-mail didn't go through" approach so I wasn't too pestering. lol though I still try to call once a week and send a letter at least once a week...

Haha. I've definitely used that. Once a week? I've been sending once a month according to Irene's suggestion.

I didn't get waitlisted until March. I sent a LOI/Update at the end of march/beginning of april. Since the end of April, I have been sending weekly letters of intent/update... Maybe I am overkilling it but I really want to go to WF and I am trying to show my interest.. I understand that people who were WL like in the fall wouldn't take this approach but they had more time to send updates and such as opposed to me getting WL in March.
 
I, too, was waitlisted in March. I'm not saying that what you're doing is wrong. Maybe you're on to something. I'm just trying to do exactly as Irene instructed. Can't imagine why she'd steer me wrong. Maybe I'll switch to two a month...
 
Got my acceptance a few weeks ago and just came back from NC for a house-hunting trip. If you are looking for a place to stay this next year, gimme a holla! I got a really nice place 2 blocks from school and I'm looking for a housemate. 2BR, 1BA, backyard, new appliances, nice kitchen, dishwasher.

Once a week is intense. I've been on the waitlist since December and I've sent 2 letters... Maybe my life is just boring, but I don't think I'd have something new to tell them every single week. I guess just the simple gesture of doing it shows them something. Maybe it's time for another letter....

Alot of my letters are more I love you WF and this is why we are SSSSSSOOOOOO good for each other than update letters... I feel like I am courting a lover who has absolutely no interest in me.. lol
 
Irene asked for a letter once a month to remind them that you are still interested. I try to pack as much as I can into each letter without making it too lengthy. So far, I've only sent three, per her request, but I could probably send them a million.

This waiting is miserable. Thanks for keeping me company on the forum.

Ditto.. the forum kinda died off completely.. I wonder if they didn't send any acceptances this week.. or if they just happened to go to all the people who aren't on this board.. bleh... knowing my luck I will get pulled off the WL somewhere after I applying June 1 for next year... lol that would be my luck

Sounds like some excellent luck. Who cares when you get pulled off. Point is you get pulled off. Certainly, sooner would be better than later, but I'll take an acceptance ANY time before July 22.

Me too! Accepted today! Can't freaking believe it. I had abandoned all hope! I was accepted to MUSC about a month ago, then ECU yesterday, and I was all set to go to ECU, when I got a letter from Wake today!

Definitely going. Still in disbelief. Even though I was accepted to a school over a month ago, I am finally truly excited and finally feel like I am going to med school.

I interviewed Feb 1st, waitlisted Feb 18th, accepted today. I've sent 3 LOIs roughly once a month since I was waitlisted. 36Q MCAT, 3.54 GPA, Research and International Experience. See you guys soon. Don't give up hope I am living proof the waitlists are moving!

My letter came as a PDF via e-mail just as the letter that informed me that I was on the alternate list. I expect I will probably receive a letter by USPS as well.

Has anyone who is still sitting on the WL flat out asked Irene if they even have a chance for acceptance? I am debating just asking though I dread the answer for fear of a negative response. On the other hand, it would allow me to quit torturing myself with stress. lol Any suggestions? Should I wait or just ask and potentially put myself out of my misery? lol

I bet she would tip toe around it if you asked, but it's worth a shot if you're up to it.

I'm thinking of asking a variant of this question. Because really, the sooner I know the better. I'll probably ask her where on the waitlist I am, and if it's like "in the middle" or "at the end" and she doesn't offer any other info, I'll ask what my chances are. As HTM mentioned she probably won't tell me straight up "you got no chance" but maybe she'll be somewhat forthcoming...
 
I called them on Friday, and with Irene being out most of the week, I don't know if she'll be that helpful. I went from "middle of the waitlist" to "upper half", but when I found out I was in the middle, she said that withdrawals are down, so it may end up being one of those close calls depending where you are.

She will probably tell you where you are if you ask nicely. I called and spoke to someone other than Irene and didn't get any info. I followed up with an e-mail addressed to her about a week later and she told me my approximate position.

Where were you on the waitlist, if you don't mind me asking? I saw you got an acceptance... so I was just curious

I was originally told I was in the top third of the list. I don't know if that was before they started taking people off the list or not. They understandably held off from being too specific but it was nice to get a little information.
 
just called again and Irene told me that I'm definitely in the top half now... maybe I still have a chance? It's so hard to tell...
 
Good luck to everyone accepted or waitlisted. I withdrew from the waitlist today. I will be attending the Mayo Medical School 😀
 
just checked my status online and I've been accepted!!!!!! haven't gotten anything via email yet. so excited

Congrats!!! My status is unfortunately the same wait list one. Did you ever call to find out where you were on the wait list?

Thank you! I did contact admissions earlier this week. I was told that my position was "favorable," but they had some questions about the other schools to which I was accepted (i.e. would I choose Wake over them. Obviously I said yes 🙂)

Wow you sound a lot like me as a candidate. I also called them earlier this week and they told me I was in the top half and also asked about the other schools I had applied to. I lost my login info for the status but hopefully I'm in the same boat and we both get an email today
 
Hey, for those of you accepted off the waitlist, did they send something via snail mail within a couple days to sign and send back? I can't tell from the letter I got by email if I'm just supposed to email them back and then send a check. I assume they'll mail something but I just wanted to see. Thanks guys

I immediately wrote a letter and mailed it with a check. I received the same letter via snail mail a few days later.
