I'm still not marked complete! I submitted the secondary on 9/24. No letters posted. Emailed them on 10/18 about this, they posted LoRs that day but still was not marked complete? What gives? Should I call?

Yeah this school is very slow. I sent in my secondary 9/8 and was marked complete 10/22.

complete 9/20 here! nothing yet 🙁 lets hope for the next batch!

So I had my interview about a wk ago, but I've been too busy with work to write a thank you letter to my interviewers; so anyone else here write a thank you letter? did you send it by email or snail mail... now I'm thinking maybe it's too late, or is it even necessary... I was just thinking of saving how much I enjoyed the interview.

I'm trying not to come off to the school as being like "take me to you school, see I wrote you a thank you note".

Any advice is greatly appreciated....

withdrawing interview today, hope one of you gets it!

I would write an email. A friend that recently interviewed at BUSM did just that and got a response back like almost right away. Its more convenient and you know it will get to them if you send it via email even if it is as an attached file.

Thanks for the advice... I sent them an email, I don't think I'll get a response today, but I will mail them the letters tomorrow (in a snail mail)... i figure that it wont hurt and may (a very small "may") only help. Besides I just want to tell the interviewers how much I enjoyed the thing....both both my interviewers were truly the best part of my day at Albany.

Ive been complete since August 24th.. still no word.
is this a sign of a pre-interview rejection to come?

Im in the same boat and honestly I think they just have not gotten to us yet. Reason being: they have rejected people complete waaaaay after us and also put people on hold after us. They don't do silent rejections here; I really think they are just that busy. I am going to call later this week if I dont hear anything just to check things out.

Yeah I can attest for sure that Albany doesn't do silent rejections. They do like BUSM and MCW and RFU and Tulane and GW and reject people in initial screening and lots of people as they go. They don't keep everyone on perpetual hold til the end.

I know quite a few friends who were already rejected and that si why I predict I'll be getting one soon. I think the only reason I didn't get one yet is because I was given officially complete status in mid oct (10/15). because I got my mcat score back in 9/15. So I'm predicting either will get rejected by the end of this semester or early next semester.

I thought i had a chance at time of applying but because of the people I know who were rejected and some who've already had interviews, I don't think I stand a shot here, esp. with the number of apps they get.

You know, I really respect that about a medical school. I know they are medical schools and genuinely don't care if you wait until may or even august to find out you were not going to be offered an interview but I think its respectable to just go ahead and tell you if you won't be offered an interview. Guju, what were your friends stats like who got rejected?

albany doesn't accept updates right? Has anyone sent one anyway just for the hell of it? I've been complete since July, and heard nothing. I figure that I might as well send an update, even if it pisses them off.

I've only been complete since 10/20 so i guess I have a ways to wait. Ugh this waiting just sucks

Anybody have any information about how many people get interviewed vs. acceptances etc.? I couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks in advance.

i was marked complete after a month of having my latest MCAT scores in. All my letters were in too but they are just slow. They said not complete at that time because they needed to check that I met the requirements, whatever that meant.

Anyhow, it was like Oct 15th like 30 days after my MCAT scores came out when I got the application certified and officially complete email.

So yeah they take a long time.

damn! i was emailing back and forth with someone from admissions regarding my chemistry requirement. apparently they didnt see my AP chemistry credit and asked if i planned on fulfilling that this year. this raised the question of whether or not schools have a copy of your transcript on hand (thats where my AP classes are listed). on the AMCAS it just says 'ap credits = 16' or something. does anyone know if schools get full transcripts???

also: now i am complete as of 11/11 probably going to withdraw this before they reject me anyway :/

I interviewed at Albany at the end of September, and still not gotten a reply. Is this normal?

Schools do not have your "official transcript" on hand. They use your primary AMCAS to determine what you've taken. Did you not list your individual AP credits when submitting your AMCAS? If the AP credits are listed individually on your school's transcript, they should be listed individually on AMCAS as well as separate courses, which would allow med schools to see which AP credits you have...

Earlier in the thread someone said that they called admissions and found out that Albany is not releasing any decisions until December. I also interviewed in Sept and have heard nothing. Few more weeks of waiting!

Same here! It's driving me crazy, especially because I really really liked Albany. I know that's not a universal opinion by any means, but for me I felt it really would be just about perfect!

PS. When I called they said beginning of December, but they were hoping to get them out "starting within the next couple of weeks." That was maybe 1-2 weeks ago. Obviously, no one has heard yet, but there is a chance (albeit small, perhaps) that it could be sooner than December. :luck: everyone!

I just got an acceptance e-mail. So, I guess it's not December. Or something.

I believe they look at your AMCAS app/transcript. If you designated AP Chemistry credit on your amcas app and they verified it, you should be fine. Transcripts I believe are looked at when you're accepted to make sure you graduated, everything matches up, etc.

I got the "application certified" email on Sept. 14, and still no news. I hope no news really is good news like guju is saying!

Congrats to those accepted! 😀

I'm starting to mix up my interview dates, but I think it was the second week of October....plus or minus a week

Ahhh congrats! Now I'm freaking out. I already have an acceptance I'm really happy with but no email from Albany yet.... :xf:

I got the "your candidacy is still under consideration" email from Albany today.... sucks, but oh well, I put my best foot out and got slapped silly. At least its not a rejection - yet.🙁

Does anyone know what the "under consideration" means .. based on my understanding, you could still be accepted any time between now and the end of the interview season? Or is it that you won't hear anything back until after they've interviewed everyone? .. I guess I'm asking is there a difference between being "under consideration" and their "waitlist"?

Any ideas?

From Albany website:

I am in the "under consideration" category. What does that mean?
In order to manage the number of acceptances offered, the "under consideration" category is used as a temporary designation until your application is given a final designation.

As the admission season and interview process progresses (from September through April), we are able to utilize the "under consideration" category as needed, to offer acceptances through May 15th.

In June, all applicants remaining in the "under consideration" category will be given final designations according to final cut-off scores. The "under consideration" category may ultimately result in an offer of acceptance, being placed on the alternate list, or not being accepted.

+1 got the under consideration response.

The Dean of Admission summed it up nicely...

So, you get a score from the admissions committee. An actual number. The school has a score cutoff for admitted students and another for under-consideration students. Those cutoffs change over time so that Albany admits the proper number of students over time. Therefore, Albany only admits some people it wishes would attend. Over the winter and spring, that cutoff will change such that people who were in the under-consideration category now have a score that qualifies them for admission later.

My impression is that quite a bit of their enrolled class comes from the under-consideration category. Once May 15 passes, the top 1/3 of the ranked under-consideration pool is converted into the "waitlist."

I'm under consideration too, oh well.

Same .. though it seems, at least reading through old threads, that there's a lot of movement on the UC list? Gah, more waiting!

Btw, one of the current students who was at the welcome night told us he was originally waitlisted (ie put on UC) and then accepted two weeks later .. food for thought

ACCEPTED!!!! OMG, I guess my post this morning was all it would take! lol 😀 !!!

CONGRATS! to all the other accepted's as well!

I'm under consideration😛, but I have a DO acceptance so I've got somewhere to go!

Congrats!!!! I still hope you get in here, you seemed like a person I could stand being trapped in a library with for four years. 😛

hey everyone,

I submitted my secondary on September 24th and barely got the certified email today... Is that normal?

Hmm maybe they were waiting for your LORs or payment. I submitted a few days before you and got cert'd in mid-October. Its possible that there was a delay between those few days in terms of who they began reviewing..ah well just have to wait more 😀

Accepted! I interviewed mid-November. 3.88 / 32S, Oos 😀

Good luck to everyone else!

I just got the hold status via email. What does this mean as far as a chance for an interview? Im assuming it means the chances for an interview are slim. 👎
