Hey guys! Does anyone know what is the latest date to become complete (primary verified, secondary submitted, MCAT scores, and LORs) at BCM and still be seriously considered for an interview?

There is no magic date that suddenly one becomes less competitive. I believe interviews start in early September, so it would be best to be complete by early August. I was complete in early July and interviewed in late October, and I'd say I was a pretty average applicant in terms of GPA/MCAT.

Finally got the secondary invite today!!! Is anyone using one of their TMDSAS essays for the essay on this app? It seems to fit to me... No?

Yeah, I used the same one.

Does Baylor have any sort of "status check" page we can log into?

There was last year. The link to it and instructions on how to access it came in an email. They have the link on the supplemental page on their website under "File completion/status check" http://www.bcm.edu/admissions/?PMID=1776

This is where you will click to check your status...once they have it active. Just try to be patient, I imagine they'll get it up and running soon.

Does Baylor give preference to Texas residents? The MSAR data suggests so, although I don't think they say it explicitly on their website or on the MSAR.

anyone have any advice for me as far as whether you think it's okay to use the space to expand upon an EC/what i learned from it? in my opinion, i'm a pretty average applicant (average stats, white, middle class, no stories about overcoming adversity, etc.), so i'm having a hard time coming up with something to say...

i also am taking a year off to do some traveling before med school.. not sure if i should just use the space to explain my plans for this coming year..

any opinions?

I e-mailed them about this and they told me that they are doing some software upgrades, and will have the "Check status page" up soon.

I work at my university's financial aid office. If their software upgrades go anything like ours do...don't hold your breath for that status to be up soon. Lol.

I would lean towards writing about what has gotten you to this point. Why you HAVE to do medicine, for example. Not sure that explaining future plans would be very impactful--but I guess it depends on how it's written. This is something better suited to an update letter typically. Ultimately, it's up to you...just make sure it's interesting and meaningful. Good luck.

Baylor does give some preference to in-state students; however, it's not as much as other Texas schools. Baylor is generally ~70:30 IS:OOS vs. the other Texas schools which are 90:10.

Canjosh,

You said you were "average" in terms of GPA and MCAT? Care to post your stats if you haven't already?

THANKS!!!

Is it okay to submit the secondary application to BCM even if my AMCAS application has not been processed yet (it is still waiting in line.) For example, they won't take a look at the secondary and see that my primary is not complete yet and then toss my secondary aside and never look at it again?

I doubt that would happen. You can probably submit with no problems.

It's in my MDApps to the left, below my avatar. ~3.76cGPA/34. In-state.

grrr status page still is not up.....

status check is up! Hallelujah! Despite my previous post I still checked it religiously.

Is anyone's file complete? I submitted and paid my fee over 2 weeks ago, but my status is still secondary fee hasn't been received.

The first time I submitted the secondary it didn't go through. I checked the status and submitted it the next day and got a confirmation email for both. My status says complete and under review.

where do you check the status? the status link of baylor's website isn't active.

i submitted and paid 7/19 and mine still says that the fee has not been received...

i'm complete...cant remember when i submitted but it was at least a week ago

I submitted my primary app end of May and my secondary a day or two after it was available along with the fee and my status says complete and under review...keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Anyone know when they start issuing invites? I know interviews start in September...

Really excited about baylor, but curious: I transmitted AMCAS at the end of July and submitted the secondary 3 days ago, but they still say they haven't received 3 of my LORs that I transmitted through AMCAS. Has this happened for anybody else?

does anyone's status still say "We have not received your supplemental application fee."

I submitted my payment when i submitted my app on 7/7...kinda lame that it's this slow

Mine does. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Was just wondering, from past Baylor applicants, is Spanish flunecy weighted heavily? If your a strong applicant will they care or not? Thanks

Is there somewhere that they ask about Spanish fluency?

For those who are marked complete:

What does the status actually say?

Thanks

"Your application is complete and currently being reviewed by the committee. We will let you know something as soon as we are able.

Baylor College of Medicine interviews from September through February."

So it's "normal" that my application says it hasn't been submitted even though I submitted and paid a long time ago? I can still login to the supplemental application part, is that also ok?

Did you get a confirmation email or anything?

You can add me to the list of people who paid, but its claiming that I didn't. I sent off an email the other day and am waiting for a reply

I got confirmation that I paid, (a receipt from the payment company), but not that I submitted. I almost wonder if I need to hit the submit button again?

IMO, you should re-submit it. I definately got a confirmation email with my submission date (and for my payment, despite fact that website still says I didnt pay)

So three weeks after I initially submitted, I am now submitted. I should have checked to make sure that my essay was still saved in there and everything. Crap.

It seems they have been having some computer troubles with a lot of folks, so I assume they will give us all the benefit of the doubt when weird stuff happens

So I went to the mailbox today and saw this huge thick envelope from Baylor... I started FREAKING out because I was thinking that they wouldn’t send a rejection in a thick envelope and the postage said first class- Return service requested. I busted that envelope open so fast, even though in the back of my mind I was thinking that it was unlikely that they would give me an interview, especially not this early with my stats. And it was a brochure. Hahaha. Thanks a lot for the minor stroke Baylor... I think they just do that to eff with us...

Just a few short weeks between finding out the Baylor class for this past cycle is full (I was on the waitlist) and having to reapply. So surreal.

Helloooo deja vu.

Good luck to everyone! I'm excited to reapply.

Driftkitty! Glad to hear you're reapplying. I did a lot of anonymous lurking on the BCM 2009-2010 app thread, and I was rooting for you (and rwongega and metallica)! I bet this'll be a good year for you. 🙂

this is actually my first post on SDN, so hi to everyone else too! and good luck to us all...i look forward to sharing many agonizing months of desperate waiting with all of you. 🙄

:luck: to you too. I can't imagine having to go through this twice at this point, or more.... so I really don't hope I have to. This year will be your year!

I paid on 7/19 via paypal. It finally shows ''payment received'' on the status page as of yesterday. Looks like their IT problems are behind them 👍

Is it so wrong that I obsessively check the status of my application here (and a couple of other schools) multiple times a day? I mean, I sit on a computer at work, so I have an excuse, right?

Btw I called last week about my payment that wasn't processed. The woman who answers the phone is super friendly- pleasant change from unhelpful, incredibly grumpy people who just want to get off the phone with you asap (*cough* an NY school *cough*)

Finally able to check my status (there's been computer glitches up until now). It says it's complete but it doesn't say when it was considered complete.
