Anyone else who was complete get this weird message now:

  • "Your current application status is not supported by the File Completion/Status Check function. You may email the Admissions Office at [email protected] for further information.

Please email the Admissions Office."

Has me concerned. Like they don't want to tell me I'm rejected on the status check page. Haha.

Which browser are you using? When I use Firefox, I get some sort of error when I try to go to the status page:

"Error Occurred while processing request

Element APPL_YEAR is undefined in REQUEST."

Pretty sure my error is different from yours, though, as mine sounds like its an issue with the browser. When I use Chrome I can see my application status fine.

Yeah, it works and gives the same message on internet explorer for me. Oh, and I was using Firefox. But I haven't had any problems with it before.

for their question, do think its a good idea to expand on my research experiences as something special - or should go more personal and talk about what makes me a unique person (eg upbringing, special experiences outside of school)?

hmm... if you already mentioned research on the AMCAS, maybe you ought to discuss your unique non-academic experiences. i feel like it would make you seem more well-rounded. med schools love that, right? 😉

when i was doing my secondary, i had a similar dilemma: research vs. music. i ended up choosing to write about music, and was really happy with my essay.

good luck!

Wow, they responded fast to my email. I emailed last night at 8 PM and had a response in my inbox this morning at 6:35.

Anyway, in case anyone else sees my status she said:

It is possible that the committee is reviewing your application.

Thanks! I have this same status right now.

No problem. I'm surprised they would encourage everyone who checks their status when the committee is reviewing them to contact them though. I have a feeling they're still leaving something out, haha.

I submitted my Baylor secondary but my AMCAS is still saying "ready for review"... I had submitted my AMCAS application on July 15 so I am hoping I am verified by next week...

Baylor is my top choice! All the best to everyone...
👍

My status updated to:

Your application is complete and currently being reviewed by the committee.
We will let you know something as soon as we are able.

...this morning.

I had that same message a few days ago.

I grew up in Houston and really like Baylor. Sucks that I don't have Texas residency anymore...:xf:

Also, my status also updated to being reviewed this morning.

This is why my new status worries me, because I had that status you got updated to for a few days before it changed to the odd one about the file status not being supported.

Oh well. Probably just being overly neurotic.

Just finished my first week of classes at BCM...Baylor is awesome!! I was on last year's thread obsessively, and I'll try to stay involved with this one. Invites for the first interview day should be going out soon, and I am applying to be a tour guide...so hopefully I'll be seeing some of you folks soon.

My status is the same "not supported" and has been that way for about a week (before then it was "your file is complete and under review"). I emailed too, assuming
I had gotten rejected, and they replied via email: "Your application is being reviewed by the committee. We will let you know something as soon as possible."

So don't worry.. I'm guessing it's just a glitch in the system. 🙄

I applied to Baylor before I got my MCAT scores back from the 6/17 test date since I was trying to get my application in as early as possible. I had been making consistently above a 30 on my practice tests from the AAMC, but on the real thing, I crapped out apparently and ended up with a 26P. Boo. MUCH lower than BCM's average of, what was it, 34?

So it seems I've probably wasted $260 between the primary and secondary apps to BCM, but I was wondering if there was a small chance I might still have a shot.

My stats:

Major: International Studies with a concentration in International Relations
Minor: Chemistry
In my university's honors program (OOS, but still have Texas residency)
cGPA: 3.89
sGPA: 3.89
MCAT: 26P (Yeesh... oh well, that's what I get for a total of 3 weeks of study time that was also spent preparing for two study abroad trips and visiting my brother at Texas Children's Hospital because of chest surgery)

ECs: Int'l Relations related independent research presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research 2010, Honors Program, several academic honor societies (Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Gamma Mu, Phi Kappa Phi), completed a year long program encouraging civic engagement at school that was by invitation only from the university's president, a job with that same institute later (starting this fall) helping coordinate the student voting program, trip to Belize with International Service Learning working in rural field clinics, study abroad program in San Jose, Costa Rica.

I don't know how much any of that stuff matters, so sorry if I had a little verbal diarrhea there... Haha. In addition, I also talked in my personal statement about losing over 200 lbs and connected that to me understanding what people with weight struggles are going through, which may help me to help them, etc.

So, yeah, do I have a snowball's chance in heck? Haha. Anyone heard of someone getting in with that low of an MCAT score without having really special circumstances?

Congrats btw on getting in! Do you know when they start sending invites?

Thanks. I think my invite last year came about 3 weeks prior to the interview date. I heard that the first batch is "close" to being ready. I believe the first interview date is the first Friday of September...so it should be pretty soon.

^^Haha, just reread that and realized that I colored each sentence with great uncertainty. Sorry I'm being so vague, but I don't want to lead you astray!

You never know for sure...but the MCAT puts you below the 10th percentile for accepted students...which you probably already knew. The rest of your app looks interesting.

The matriculant average is about 34.

When I submitted my Baylor application, it said that if I took the MCAT in August they will receive the scores mid-october...

I thought AMCAS sends the score as soon as they are available - I took the 8/5 MCAT - is it the same for all schools???

Just recieved an invite for September 3rd! Good luck to everyone else 🙂 .. I'm so excited to visit this school!

How frustrating, they still have not received my payment from more than one month ago...just sent them an email

My submission date was July 19th. I never received another email until now so I don't know exactly when my application was verified. Im OOS with 35Q and 3.95 GPA if that helps at all. Good luck!

I submitted my primary application in early July (the first week or so). The secondary was done around July 15th I'd guess.

Good luck!

So I'm checking my mail and see this huge envelope, I hold my breath thinking it might be Vandy's secondary/invite. Then I see BCM on it and think "holy crap do they want to interview me????!", then I open it and its a generic recruiting brochure :boom::boom:

Yea, I also got this envelope last week, but I had read another post also furious about this, so I had a heads up. That was a pretty hefty brochure, and if they are sending them out to everyone, they arent exactly leading the pack in greenness.

Just received an interview invite for September 3rd also. So excited, my first interview!!! Hopefully I'll see some of you guys who posted above.

For those curious: AMCAS verified July 9th, Secondary submitted July 22nd.

I was the angry poster from last week that tried to warn all of you! Haha, glad I was at least able to keep you from having an angry moment!

Invite as well--looking forward to meeting the other SDNers who got invites for that day! We should start a PM thread some time soon.

I also received an invite for September 3rd!! Very excited.

Congrats on the interview invite! When you site a date for when your application was "AMCAS verified", is that the date you got from Baylor when they invited you to complete the supplemental app or is that information you can get from AMCAS?

I got an invite from Baylor today, also! My interview is going to be on September 3rd.

Verified: 6/16/10
Secondary submitted: 7/5/10

Congrats to you folks who got interviews! I'd encourage each of you to try to stay with a student host, and to also attend the post-interview social. If you'd prefer not to stay with a host, there are tons of hotels in the medical center area. A free shuttle service would be something I'd definitely look for in a hotel.

If you're flying in, Hobby airport is on the same side of town as the med center. Hobby is a 'satellite' airport, so it's serviced by Southwest and regional jets basically. Intercontinental is a trek from the other side of town, but it has more flights/airlines. Traffic can be bad from either direction.

Looking forward to meeting you guys/gals!

Thanks for the congrats!

Quick question, is the post-interview social something that significant others (fiance/husband/wife) would come to? Thanks!

YES! Absolutely! My wife came to the interview day and the social. She had a great time!

Oh my fault, I wasn't very clear--but yes that's the day Baylor received my application. I should have said AMCAS received, my bad.

Just popping in to say congrats to everyone who got an invite for 9/3. Good luck, and maybe one of you will have me for your student host 🙂

Yay Baylor! Hoping for some hometown love...definitely first choice!

Does Baylor give preference to Texas residents? The MSAR data suggests so, although I don't think they say it explicitly on their website or on the MSAR.

So I went to the mailbox today and saw this huge thick envelope from Baylor... I started FREAKING out because I was thinking that they wouldn’t send a rejection in a thick envelope and the postage said first class- Return service requested. I busted that envelope open so fast, even though in the back of my mind I was thinking that it was unlikely that they would give me an interview, especially not this early with my stats. And it was a brochure. Hahaha. Thanks a lot for the minor stroke Baylor... I think they just do that to eff with us...

Yeah the same thing happened to me...I decided not to get excited over thick white envelopes until much later in the season 🙁

Gah and I know soooo many Baylor people from out of state. I think it's around 25%. I doubt they give nearly as much preference to IS people as all the other Texas schools since they're private and aren't bound by that "90% have to be from Texas" laws. It definitely wouldn't deter me from applying as an OOS applicant

You're absolutely right. In fact, my class is 30% OOS. 🙂

Congrats to everyone who already received an interview!

From US News

In-state admissions data 1390 applied, 408 interviewed, 210 were accepted, 148 enrolled

Out-of-state admissions data 3198 applied, 309 interviewed, 130 were accepted, 38 enrolled
It seems that there's an in-state preference when selecting candidates for interviews (30% vs 10%) but that preference decreases markedly when admitting students out of the interviewees (51% vs 42%)

I submitted on 7/28 and this morning my status has changed to "Your application is complete and has been reviewed by the committee. We will let you know something as soon as we are able."

Wondering if that's a sign of rejection ...

Yea, I got the same status. I also wonder what it means, i mean it has been reviewed, so what did they decide? no good, good?

I guess Id rather go for the suspense than "you did not make the cut."
