Yay! Congratz, EPS - the wait is over 🙂

I've been accepted off the waitlist! This is my dream school and I'll definitely be attending. Now the difficult task of finding housing. Is it easy to get graduate housing in North Park? Also does anyone know how much it costs to live there? Or do you guys recommend finding off campus housing?

Congrats on getting accepted!! Looks like the wait was worth it.
I asked about housing a few months ago in this thread and I believe rent for North Park is around $840. It is cheaper to live off campus and if you want, you can find listings on here http://www.dartmouthre.com/rental-housing/dartmouth-rentals/

hey guys, i have a couple quick questions about DMS that I was hoping somebody could answer!

1) do med students take call?
2) they didn't show us a sim center on interview day, but i just wanted to make sure there is one and that it's not super ancient or under construction or something...
3) i also remember while i was there, my cell phone didnt work and students were saying that no service provider ever works b/c it's so rural....is that true?

I have at&t service and it comes in both where I live (in lebanon) and on campus. I also know that verizon works up here.

I have had service drop when I've been driving down to Concord from here (but have had it come in no problem once I'm in Concord).

Not sure about other providers?

Look for my PM to see the answer to your other 2 questions.

Verizon works very well at the hospital (I even get reception in the linac rooms in radonc, which is a little troubling) but not as well in Hanover.

Can you PM me those answers as well? I'm interested

I'm really excited to meet you guys/gals this August.

Does anybody know if T-Mobile works in Hanover/Lebonon?

Do you think a laptop with ethernet is really required? The computer requirements say they are but the whole campus should have wifi right? I'm thinking of getting a macbook air

I start in august so not a med student yet, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think I would go with a macbook or macbook pro. I could be wrong though, just my 2 cents.

hey does anyone have a link or know where i can find DMSs academic calendar (start & finish of classes, white coat ceremony etc.)? thanks!

Start Aug. 15th.

White coat ceremony is Oct. 1st

I think they end around mid June.

I don't have the link though

did anyone else receive the dartmouth group diagnostic equipment letter?
Will the diagnostic set, the littmann stethoscope, the tuning fork, and reflex hammer suffice without the other upgrades and options? In fact is it necessary to buy the diagnostic set with the ophthalmoscope and otoscope or is that something you can borrow?

I received that too.

I don't think it's mandatory to buy the diagnostic set, just highly recommended.

You need a stethoscope and maybe think about the reflex hammer and tuning fork. Oto/ophthalmoscope are too expensive and will be available.

Hi there- is anyone still looking for housing or a housemate to share with? I got off the waitlist recently, and am a little behind on the housing front.

Hey! Not sure if you have already found the FB page but there are people on there looking for housing/roommates. Good luck!

anyone know hows the sprint network is in the hanover area?

Since there is no information online, I guess I'll try asking here. Can anyone provide any additional information about North Park? Are the apartments nice? How big are the bedrooms? Is there cable in the bedrooms? What's the furniture like that they provide? Are the beds they provide comfortable? I can't really think of any additional questions right now but any other information that you could provide would be greatly appreciated

They are nice apartments (hardwood floors if I remember correctly) with fairly big rooms. On Dartmouth's campus, we have Dartv, which is cable TV over the school's ethernet connection. You can either watch TV on your computer or rent a box (I think it's around $7 per month) that you can then plug into your tv. So, yes, you have cable in your room.

Thanks for the quick response. Do you think the rooms are big enough to bring my queen bed and still have a decent amount of room? Not sure how I feel about that twin.

does anyone know where to get and sign the braley loan promissory note?

Sorry, I haven't been in one of those rooms for four years. If you got them to take the twin out you might be okay.

I spoke to fin. aid last week and I was informed that we would get everything we needed to fill out (or at least instructions and links) through email, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. But you could always call!

Just a side-note question-

Based on the MSAR Darthmouth mcat ave = 34. So I have a (12,8,Q,11=31). Is it worth even spending the $32+$130 to apply to a school like this? Anyone know of anyone that ever has a chance to get into this school with a single-digit;8 score?..

You won't know unless you try. A 31 is a solid score. With that said, I have no idea how an 8 may be viewed. Keep in mind that the MCAT is just one aspect of your application, strength in other aspects could overshadow that. Good luck.

One thing I love about Dartmouth is that its definitely a school that looks at the whole person. I think Dartmouth takes mcat and gpa scores into less consideration than most other schools. They are much more interested in your overall accomplishments in life. At the interview, the director of admissions joked that they once tried to accept only people with super high GPA and MCAT scores and subsequently, they got an entire class of brainiacs who did nothing but study. Research Dartmouth a little bit, if you love the outdoors, being in a strong community, having the opportunity to work in different areas of the country, etc than applying to Dartmouth is a no-brainer.

No joke, by the way. This is referring to the class that just graduated. One of the main reasons DMS went P/F for the first year is because faculty at DMS worried that this class studied too much.

The admissions committee wised up after the class of 2011. 😉

Hey does anyone know which cell phone company has the best coverage in Hanover?

has anyone started on their personal background information? A lot of it is straight forward but i'm wondering, for questions such as "what is the driving force for you in pursuing medicine" or "what will you do 10 years from now" or "what is your dreams and goals for the future", how long should that be? Just a small paragraph or can I just borrow a ton of material from my AMCAS and secondary essays? I probability shouldn't stress out too much about this but its just a bit nerve racking knowing that this is going to be used for your future recommendations 😳

I was just honest about it. I think the point of it is to get to know you on a deeper level, and not to take that stuff verbatim and copy and paste onto a letter of reference.

I wrote about some of the same things that I used on the AMCAS but I think I was probably more specific on this, since an acceptance isn't on the line. lol

I was also wondering, do we need to change our license plate/ID if we are out of state? I'll be living in vermont when I attend Dartmouth. Are students are exempt from this requirement?
