2023-2024 Dartmouth (Geisel)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wasn’t able to attend the virtual second look thing everyone’s been posting about because I had a prior commitment I had volunteered for.

It’s kind of whack they told us on Thursday about an event on Saturday— that type of short notice doesn’t demonstrate great planning…

For those of you who did attend, what’s the tea?
I was only there for the classroom section but it was chill, they basically did a fake lecture to show us how like they involve a lot of problem solving in the classes rather than straight lecture. Seemed cool but nothing revolutionary imo…

it appears it was 70 with both accepted and waitlist included. not sure how many of each there were
How do u know, and do we have a ballpark by any chance of how many accepted were there? Just tryna figure out if we have any way of guessing how deep the WL goes lmao

If you're on the WL the most important thing they told us was to have your financial aid stuff all taken care of and movement will start after May 1st until the class is full.

I would sue for mental damages holy ****
It was such a stab in the heart, but I went out for a nice dinner and did some thinking and decompressing and decided that the cost of living and rural campus were not what I was seeking, despite how much it hurts to be the recipient of such a hefty scholarship and not take it. I decided not to try to email asking to have my A back. It helped that I visited Second Look at another med school that weekend and fell in love with the city/school. I really hope someone on here gets that incredible scholarship and the acceptance--good luck everyone :)

What financial aid documents did we need to submit? I emailed to ask and never received a response.

A from the waitlist yesterday evening. Interviewed back in October. Still doesn't feel real.

Edit: Was accepted! Very grateful & happy. Hope to see everyone in this thread this summer!

For those curious— was told that folks accepted off of waitlist have 1 week to make a decision and commit.

Just withdrew my A here with bittersweet emotions. Dartmouth was my first interview and my first acceptance and I thoroughly fell in love with the school and the community when I visited. It is a special place and I hope everyone waiting gets good news soon! <3

may i ask why you withdrew the A? no details needed if personal but wondering if location, finances etc since you appear to have had such a great experience

No worries, yeah, it was a tough decision. I was also lucky to receive some need-based aid which made the choice even harder. A large part of it was my partner who will be moving with me for med school. Hanover is very remote (full day of travel from his family) and there is limited housing, not just for graduate students in general, but especially for couples or families. I don't really care about living in a shoebox since I'll be at school all day, but my partner would be WFH for 40 hours a week. And while the outdoor offerings are fantastic, there is not much in the way of local amentities or entertainment (gyms, cafes, breweries, music, etc) for him to use as an outlet or find community outside of work. And since neither of us are big winter sports people, he'd probably be climbing the walls for 8 months of the year. So ultimately while I think I would have been very happy at Dartmouth it would have been terrible for us as a couple. I was extremely lucky to get off the waitlist at another school that I am also super excited for that will be a much better fit geographically.

Is it really over for the waitlisted folks...
When I interviewed one of the students actually got off WL in June but I think it all depends, each year could be different, just have to be patient I guess?

I too am a freshly minted M1 at Geisel and I can echo what @Kelrilyn stated regarding the cheating scandal and applying to Geisel. Feel free to tag me with any questions.

As for first impressions, I'm truly thrilled to be a part of the community at Dartmouth/Geisel. Most of the faculty are incredible and it seems like everyone we meet is genuinely invested in our success. We're only a few weeks in so I don't have too much more to say at this time but I'll do my best to answer any specific questions that may arise. @Opuntia
Can I PM you?
