I check often (not quite OCD, but close) and just checked now that you posted and it turned out I had the same status. So I wouldn't be surprised if this status came up either yesterday or today.

Can someone who's received either an invite or a rejection give some input?
Thanks in advance.

when they invited me to interview back in august, they just sent me an email with an interview date, etc. i never got a status update like you did before the invite. sorry i cant be of more help!

interview invite today for late january! was on re-review since mid-September...

Congrats NewYorkTrojan for your acceptance and Obliquity for your interview invite!

Fricker! Apparently I'm "on hold" too! I didn't realize I'd survived ANY rounds of rejections. Ah well, I just sent an LOI like... seconds ago. Haven't taken this round of finals yet but promised them an updated transcript. Also talked about the stuff I've been doing this semester volunteer-wise and work-wise. GGG! I actually hadn't looked because I'd sort of given up hope after getting my MCAT scores and thought ah well, I'll leave my apps in just in case but most likely need to re-apply after a retake. Who knows... if this Friday pattern holds up, tomorrow may be either a very happy/ extremely sad day.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense but I've been studying since 11 am with very very few breaks................

good luck to all!

Here's to hoping it's happy (or at least neutral) for all of us hanging out in the hold pile! :luck:

Congrats gujudoc!!🙂 I've noticed you on quite a few threads I've been keeping tabs on, looks liek were applying to same places. If you don't mind what was your timeline like here and stats? Thanks

YAY Glad to see it was interivew and not impending rejection. 😀

Congrats NewYorkTrojan for your acceptance and Obliquity for your interview invite!

Thank you!!! 🙂 I'm so excited because this is my first / only acceptance so far! Good luck to everyone else, and looking forward to meeting some of you soon hopefully

3.6 cGPA, 3.4 sGPA, 35
Complete: 10/15 [Re-review ever since & sent in an update letter]
Interview Invite: 12/15
Interview Date: 02/03

:luck: to everyone!

Any word today? I saw an email in my box from GW.... I promptly soiled my pants and opened it, only to find it was just a generic.. "thanks for the update, will be sure to update your file..." in response to my LOI. Aaaaannnddd my status is still on re-review. Ah well. Trying not to obsess too much since I still have finals to contend with.

Would anyone here be able to talk more about GW, or some of the pros of the school? I interviewed and was accepted a few months ago, but came back very ambivalent and not having a lot of positive feelings about the school, which I was bummed about because I was very excited about the school and DC, and I'm interested in public health.

For example, with the student clinics, I heard that students don't get to do very many hands on things, just like filing, etc. I was also really excited about the ISCOPES at GW, but then heard that it's not worth it, and you don't get much done, or accomplished, especially if you are just a med student.

What are 3rd and 4th years like? They showed us simulators during the tour, but said they are only reserved for 3rd and 4th years, so how much time is spent in the hospital versus practicing with simulators? Thanks for your input!

Send a letter of interest! Indicate why GW is a good fit for you, take advantage of updating them of any new activities. Good luck! 🙂
I fully intend to. I really love this school and was incredibly disappointed to get the letter, so I do hope there is something I can do to make a difference in the interim waiting period. Thanks so much for the well wishes.

I interviewed on November 2nd.

hi all, i just wanted to ask a couple of questions, seems like the spot to do it.

would anyone be able to give me an idea of how extensive the medical center is here? it seems to be one large building on the map (maybe 2, as there's an ambulatory care building nearby i saw). i happened to be in the area yesterday and was looking around but the admissions person i saw when i stopped by said access would be restricted so i can't explore the medical center myself - too bad i'm here over a holiday time.

how is safety? the area right around the school looks pretty cute and pleasant in the day, but of course i know it's a giant city, and i was wondering what it's like at night. also wondering if a lot of students live right around there and how affordable you can make it.

i don't know why this didn't occur to me before, this school being where it is, but i noticed in the brochure that people with an emphasis in health policy seemed to be emphasized/mentioned a lot. is a focus on health policy something that they really look for here? i just wonder if not having that kind of focus is something that would count against you when applying, and further if you got in despite that if it's something that would make the school less of a match for you anyway. or if it's just one aspect and there's plenty of non-policy focus people also and they're just playing up a strength they have.

anyway, pile of questions, thanks for any input!

I don't know much about the medical center. I did interview and tour there, and the it is new (early 2000s I think) and gorgeous inside. It's a well-known hospital and many government employees use it (one of our tour guides saw Hilary Clinton once and Cheney was there with his heart issues). GW also has like 8 or so other hospitals affiliated. In terms of hospitals, GW seems like a fantastic place. Though, I can't give you much more info than that.

The area is very safe. DC in general has some sketchy spots but the area around GW is probably one of the safest place you can be. It is a large city, so sure, there are problems. But not too many to worry about. Nice area, a couple blocks from the White House and the National Mall. Can't beat location in terms of safety and things to do.

Edit: Should add that many students do live around there. Very expensive (over $1000) but doable. Living in other areas around DC is fine because GW is a metro stop. But make sure to research potential living areas because DC is not the safest city in the world. Seems pretty split being living around the school and living elsewhere.

Interest in health policy is not something they look for. However, a lot of people are attracted there because you are so close to the White House and Congress. It is something you can pusue if you want or not. I expressed zero interest in doing so and I got in.

Interview Invite today! It's for late January, kind of late notice since I need to fly...

Complete 09/01, under "re-review" since then basically, GPA high and MCAT around average for GWU.

It'll be 8 weeks from my interview this week. I hope that means I hear something soon.

Congrats! I am so glad to hear that there are people coming back from that status! That is where I have been since about mid-september!

Hey everyone,

FYI, I just received an email to check my status and just found out that I had been CAPed. I think the notices are starting to go out.

What does being CAPed mean? 😕

Something tells me the person who was CAP'd is actually a georgetown applicant, where CAP = being placed in the Competitive Applicant Pool, which is sort of like the waitlist but somewhat better because they actually do accept a large proportion of the class from it.

Just got the acceptance email. They are right on the 8 weeks thing. Right on time interviewed 11/11/10

Congrats 4ksibe! I also interviewed on the 11th. Nothing so far, I take it that is not a good sign. Has anyone else in that interview time frame heard anything regarding an accpetance, alternate, or the dreaded "correspondence sent" status?

Congratulations, 4ksibe...that is very exciting!!

I interviewed on the 11th as well and have not heard anything. I'm with you MusicnMed in that I'm taking it as not a good sign. Fingers crossed until we get the official word, though! I really loved the school and the area!

GAH i interviewed on 11/8 and got the alternative list email today. BOOOOOO!

Does anyone know if people get off the alternative list?

I interviewed on 11/11/10 and was selected as an alternate.

Does being an alternate mean that you're on a specific type of waitlist or just the waitlist in general?

Hey guys!

I have a couple of questions for current GW med students regarding post-acceptance details. I'll be away during the summer and I just want to make sure I have everything covered before I leave.

1. Aside from the forms in the acceptance package, are there other forms/paperwork that will be sent to us in the summer that need to be mailed back before school starts?
2. When do people usually start looking for housing? Also, when do housing options usually start opening up?
3. When does registration start? Is everything done online?
4. When is the white coat ceremony?
5. When do classes start?

Thanks a lot and good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews! 🙂

Yeah, how do people find housing? Are there forums dedicated to this or something? Because with students coming from all over the country, how do you find roommates? Because I'd much rather live with a fellow student then some weird townie...

If you're on facebook, I would start by looking for a GW c/o 2015 facebook group. I've stalked a few Facebook groups and have noticed that many people solicit for roommates on there. I feel that this is a good avenue to meet people in your class, although the majority of the class will probably not be represented in the group. As for where to look for places to live, I've looked on rent.com and craigslist (beware of scammers) for an idea of potential places; however I DO think it's a bit early to be house hunting; but not early to narrow down apartment complexes that may appeal to you. Hope this helps!

Hey Guys! I also interviewed on 11/11/2010. I called today just to see what's going on and they said that because of the holidays, the admissions committee didn't meet as often as they normally do within the 8 week time span. As a result, we may have been put it in the second batch and should hear back later than others.

I don't know if that's actually true or if they just didn't want to break the bad news to me over the phone, but I thought I'd let you guys know that it is possible we're still being considered! Good Luck and congrats to everyone who heard good news! 🙂

How many do I don't know, but I know that people DO definitely get off the waitlist.

My M2 friend there was waitlisted there and got off waitlist.

And she's the one who sent in the post interview update letters of which she said she sent in at least one of those to the dean from my understanding from her.

So i mean its possible to get off the waitlist but not everyone will but there definitely is SOME movement in Mid may when it all begins and summer.

The dean of the medical school??

Thanks! My date is actually next week. I sent in one letter of interest a week prior to my invitation. Good luck!

Anyone getting interview invites recently? Been waiting for that thing since late July....

i had to send in a letter of interest before I got an interview too...mines this week.

I sent a letter of interest/took the opportunity to update them about two weeks ago. No invite 🙁

For those who have sent update letters, did you send them to the e-mail listed on the status page or did you send them in the mail to a specific person? I am finishing mine today and hopefully will get it out asap. It looks like some people have had some good results from sending an update letter. Fingers crossed!

I sent updates to [email protected]. I was complete Mid August, on-hold sometime in September. Sent two update letters- in October and November. I was invited shorted after the second update letter in early December. My interview is actually this week. Pretty excited!

What are you all writing in your update/letter of interest? It seems in the secondary app that GWU already asked why we wanted to goto their school. If there is nothing really to update the school on what we are doing...what is there to write about? Re-state why we want to goto their med school? This is my boat for some other schools i applied too as well. Thanks!

I emailed mine and snail-mailed a hard copy of the same thing. I have heard in the past that GWU is particularly welcoming of interest letters, since they get a ton of applicants who wouldn't matriculate even if they were accepted.

Good luck.

I talked about why I'm a good fit. It's not so much presenting new material as the message you're sending, which is "Hey I'm still here, and I'm great for GWU, and I really WANT that interview."

Interview invite this morning! Sent a letter of interest/update a few weeks ago.

interview invite today for Feb 4 🙂

I was complete mid September and I think my status changed to "on hold" shortly thereafter Sent a LOI in early December and update in early January.
