Late March interview? I dunno I'm not buying it. Joanne was very adamant that Feb. 15th was the last interview day. I even remember her telling my interview group that at that point (early January) that they had already interviewed more people than they probably needed to.

Had a late march interview. Decided to let this one go. Good luck guys!!! hope one of you get it

👍

i think he meant to say he had a late march interview < at UCSD > and decided to drop hofstra's interview. if you scroll through his posts, he says he has a late march interview at UCSD.

so if last interview is feb 15, when are we going to hear something??

Excellent work carbear02...discovered yet another troll. Just sit tight though and take up a hobby, could be a little bit.

Troll -- as in hides under the bridge? (metaphorically speaking -- lurking) Not a derogatory term!

Also, anyone named CareBear is perhaps not always male? (you said "him")

Well usually I associate the word "troll" as someone who purposefully gives false/misleading information to deter you (much like a troll emerging from under a bridge and blocking your path). So if that was the case he/she is a troll, if not, then I apologize.

hahaha - I'm confused why we're discussing whether I'm a guy/girl and whether I'm a troll. I think Polo423 was referring to hawaii but I don't think hawaii meant to mislead.

Oh well my "he/she" and talk was referring to Hawaii. And if he didn't, like I said, I apologize.

But anyway how bout that school Hofstra huh? They may be new but they got something NO other med school has...autographed Joe Namath jersey as a good luck charm. I don't know about you guys but I think that pretty much guarantees success.

If it had a Brady jersey, maybe! Anyone get in and turn them down? My buddy accepted his spot and is going.

Anyone have any details on people who actually got in?
Also I know for fact that they're interviewing until the end of the week

The one I know is a mid 3's GPA (taking grad level classes in undergrad & an engineer though, and has a high 3's gpa masters degree; years of clinical research at a top hospital, held a biz fellowship and did peds volunteering; medical/bio pubs, etc); and a 35. So they're aiming high I'd say. He's excited to go because its practical as hell (you start patient care way earlier and way more in depth than any top 20 would allow).

Anyone else comfortable sharing stats who got in?

I'm sure it'll be a sick group of 40, or at least that's what he's hoping for.

if all of the 40 they take is similarly qualified as the guy mentioned above. i might as well just lose hopes... but congrats to him! 👍

long-time lurker here, finally created an account to provide some hope. i interviewed mid-november and got an acceptance a few weeks ago. 3.5 c/s GPA, 30 MCAT, 3 years of research (basic & clinical) and 3 years spent in some health clinics/wards. i guess they liked my background.

How did your acceptance come? It's funny we've heard 3 different forms that people have been alerted: e-mail, snail mail, and online status change.

OH and also, did you accept it/going to Hofstra?

well, they e-mailed me a letter, and said to log-in, where you also see an acceptance letter on your hofstra portal thing. a few days later, i received a large envelope via snail mail.

i accepted, but am waiting to hear back from a few other schools.

so it doesn't say "congratulations" in the subject line or first few sentences?

No, the e-mail says:

"Please see the attached letter... with an update to your application status to the Hofstra North Shore – LIJ School of Medicine."

my attached letter was the acceptance letter.

Ha the most nerve-racking attachment ever opened!

Oh my gosh! I agree with Polo! I might have needed a glass of wine in order to look at the attachment or portal after reading that intro! haha

And to everyone else waiting like me... imagine interviewing Oct. 5th, then spending 5 days/week passing the School of Medicine on your way to class (I'm a postbac at Hofstra) and seeing it every time you look out your office window (I work in the big glass/mirrored complex across the street in an office that obviously faces directly toward the SOM building). Oh and every time I need to access something for my classes I have to log into the portal where the med school applicant page is the default home screen and there's nothing I can do about it. Such torture!!! haha

As always, good luck to everyone!!

No good news no bad news. Honestly, I'm not sure Hofstra can afford to think of itself as this selective and make everyone wait. Could backfire.

Perfect.
Then there will be a spot for me when everyone goes somewhere else 🙂

Guess we'll all have to see what tomorrow brings. *Cheers* To good news!

I guess no acceptances went out today either?

I am assuming that no more acceptances have been passed out other than the original 20 acceptances. Is this correct?

Fun facts: Today was the last day for interviews. The earliest we can expect to hear from Hofstra is 3 weeks; the latest is July. They will accept around 40 students (not 2x or 3x the class size). They anticipate a great deal of movement with their waitlist.

Hold tight folks, and keep the faith! 🙂

Does that mean that we're not gonna hear anything for the next three weeks?? wow..

Guess Hofstra does silent rejections? A few fellow applicants received email rejections....still haven't heard a thing pre-interview....gonna cross this one off the list

Not sure if I'm late to see this, but the online applicant portal message changed for me to say the following:

"Thank you for interviewing at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. Your application is now complete.

The Office of Admissions has begun our rolling admissions process, but please keep in mind that due to our class size of only 40 seats, acceptances will be offered in small numbers. You can potentially hear from us regarding an acceptance anytime between now and July.

If you are accepted, you will be notified via both email and postal mail.

Thank you for keeping us updated on your achievements, at this time, sending updated transcripts is not necessary.

We greatly appreciate your continued patience. Should you have any questions, please contact the Office of Admissions at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Office of Admissions
Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine"

I'm not sure when this was updated since I hadn't checked the website in a couple weeks. I interviewed in early December and haven't heard anything substantial since then.

Yeah I saw the same thing. I don't think I can wait until July!

If Hofstra is going to dribble out acceptances, and some people wont hear until June/July, one might assume that a person who has another acceptance or mutiple acceptance will have signed a lease for living accomodations by then and would be unable to accept Hofstra offer. I sure hope Hofstra will have things done earlier.

Yeah they are just referring to waitlist movement. July is a normal time frame for many schools. Either way, finding out at that time would suck, like you said.

Maybe we'll get some decisions this week? A little bit of a stretch for "rolling admissions", at least in the traditional sense. Really loved this place... Just want a decision already.

They have to accept more than 40 people if they want 40 students, although they probably mean they won't accept more than 40 at a time. I imagine there will be a lot of waitlist movement but I'll bet money they end up accepting ~100.

I hope you are right. Although by the talk in this forum, I'm not sure how many students will turn down their offers. Did anybody turn down their acceptance yet?

Pretty much NYR56.

I imagine that's what Hofstra is most concerned about; the overall reception has been really positive. From what I gathered during my visit, they don't want to overshoot their # of acceptances and jeopardize their preliminary LCME accreditation; if they send out too many acceptances from the gate, and more than 40 people decide to attend, there will be issues. Like NYR56 mentioned, they will piece-meal out acceptances with the intentions that most of the inaugural class will come from waitlisted candidates. But in the end, this is all speculation. Take it as you will. I sincerely hope that those who truly envision themselves at Hofstra (myself included) receive the opportunity to attend. So with that, good luck everyone and keep the faith! 🙂

I was at a recent interview and I def agree with this assessment. They can not go over 40...so they will never issue more than this. I believe once they hit 40 acceptances they will start inviting people off the wait-list one by one as spots become available. It is really fustrating that most will have to wait a long time, but if you really want to be at Hofstra (like I do), it will be worth the wait

I have to say, I am getting a little worried about this too. I'm banking on the fact that many of the people with acceptances have gotten into other schools will end up turning them down once 5/15 rolls around, but a lot of people seem really into Hofstra. I know it's pretty much my top choice, though I imagine it's not for everyone.

Best not to worry and just see what happens. What will be will be, and we'll all move on with the next steps of life after. Just think happy thoughts!

+1, time will tell how many spots open.

I would guess this week since they're done with interviews

Does anyone know when the next committee meeting is?

I'm just guessing, but since during my interview they mentioned that they interview Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, my guess is that they meet on Wednesdays.
