so...i hear hofstra is done interviewing...but my status on the website is still "under review." i know there have been pre-interview holds and rejections...so what gives? if you don't want me just reject me!

Interviewed, no decision yet, withdrawing app. Good luck everyone

Really getting sick of the way Hofstra is dealing with the application process, particularly all of the delays. If this is how they're going to run the medical school I am particularly worried about their ability to get things done. What do you guys think?

why is everyone upset with them? i've still got a few schools where i submitted a secondary in july/august and haven't heard a peep. you've nearly made it through the winter people, don't crack now.

Is Hofstra your top choice or something? It says you're a medical student so I assume you've already been accepted to a medical school. Yes, they're taking a long time and it sucks, but eh it's a new medical school and I think they took less time to try and build up their program. It's not biggie for me and yeah chill.

That's what I'm wondering too. Some schools waitlist right away, then accept off the waitlist, while others wait until the end before saying anything. Both ways end up in the same result, so what's the problem? Comparing admissions to "how they run their medical school" is ridiculous. They have to be even more cautious than other schools, which they've made very clear throughout the cycle. The whole process is pretty terrible, but schools that respond quickly are the exception rather than the rule.

Yup just gotta keep it together people!!

Agreed! Waiting sucks, but it is what it is. I'm not concerned that this is a reflection of how they will run their school. The admissions process (especially for them) is a drag and they are just sifting through it. Don't let it get to you 🙂

I predict, using all my psychic power that the next batch will go out on....

NEXT FRIDAY! (with no evidence base)

If I'm right I expect to be showered with snacks. (soft snacks)

NO PANICKING UNTIL THEN.

I'm voting Friday March 11th because I will be heading to Mexico for the weekend and can drink Tequila either to celebrate or mourn. And obviously the decision will be timed around my travel plans 🙂 How's that for a prediction?!

Ha well if you're in San Diego like me you could hit up Mexican tequila whatever day you get news! Just a hop, skip, and a jump away, although a little rougher these days. May be safer going to Old Town.

I too live in San Diego. I would say going there and having a fun time is cool, but the line to get back in the states will take half a day

are you a UCSD student?

Was. Graduated in June 2009. Revelle pride!

so what have you been doing for the last 2 years? if you don't mind me asking

Nah no worries. After graduation got a great tech job at LIAI in type 1 diabetes research. So I've been working on several different types of projects since (actually running FACS as I type this). Umm did a research trip to Uganda. Tried out surfing. Lived life doing lots of other stuff. If you have more questions feel free to PM me...don't want to deviate from our main focus on this thread...The Hof! (yes that should be the school's nickname)

The Hof! That's awesome. However, until I hear from them about admissions, they're the Ice Planet of Hof to me.

How many long islanders do we have here?

props to Nassau.
😉

So, I was reading on this forum that Hofstra was done interviewing, but I just got an interview invite today. The only available date was March 11th. Anyone else in the same boat?

Wow. Now this whole thread can regress a month backwards into panic and speculation, lol.

I think they lost the flash drive with the interview results and we're going to all get re-interviewed at some point between now and July.

[/uhoh]

wow thats weird. i interviewed 2/4 and was told adamantly that the next week was the last week of interviews. while thats great for you, i wonder if that means bad news for us post interviewees who have yet to hear back. is the pool so unsatisfactory that they have to add MORE people to it?! im on pins and needles waiting to hear from this school!

This is absolutely insane...I interviewed on 2/11 and they said MULTIPLE TIMES that we were the very last they would interview, and now they are going into march...it honestly makes no sense at all to me. I was thinking a lot of us would here something this Friday....but now it appears it is still going to be a very very very long wait.

I was also invited today for March 11th!!

Wow, I thought the likelihood of getting an interview at this school was done! I'm still waiting and under review....how did you get the invite? Email? Status Update? Phone Call?

Goodluck!

Congrats on the invite!

It is pretty crazy that they are handing out more invitations since the ratio of interviews to spots available was so extreme to begin with. This is making me just a touch uneasy...😳 Did they not find enough good candidates in the first 900? I strongly doubt it. I guess it's either that or the people they are interviewing now were too awesome to pass up (which I am sure you all are🙂). Very interesting move by The Hof.

Very interesting this all is.

I got the invite via email. Before today I thought my chances for an interview were done too lol.

To anyone that has already interviewed, any tips for the interview would be greatly appreciated! Do they ask a lot about healthcare, ethics, etc.?

right! lol, sort of....

yea, that was pretty much the theme 'o' the day. i am intrigued by this news, but i will nonetheless congratulate those with invites.

Thanks!
I got the invite via email. It told me in the email that I have been invited for the interview....it also said that the only day available is march 11th. It told me to sign onto my account and confirm the date. Then I got an email confirming.

Congrats on the invite!

I would love to think I was too awesome to pass up!... not the case though. I do not have anywhere near an amazing application. Not sure what they liked about me- maybe they're looking for something specific??

My take on these March interviews is this (and Mrs. Snapp feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)...it's a glitch in the Matrix. So we should all not pay attention to it and keep on living our lives or else Agent Smith is going to show up at our doors 🙂

extremely optimistic, but it so appears that we have no choice

So only one person has actually been accepted who posts on SDN so far? Blah, im sick of waiting

No, there were 5 on SDN by my count, and I know of at least 3 others in Boston alone. (of course these may be overlapping people, since I only actually know one person personally)

This is what I was talking about. What kind of school sets 2 HARD DEADLINES for interviews and then renegs twice? Again, I'm worried that Hofstra does not have its act together...

yea some type of timeline or update from them would be appropriate at this point, not just you can here from us up until July...

While I understand the frustration of waiting for some sort of update from the school, I think the issue is that the admissions office wants to find students that want Hofstra as their top choice and not just holding a spot until may as their safety school.

I have a hypothesis:

By releasing acceptances later on in the year, you weed out people who are using Hofstra as a safety/2nd choice.

People who get into any other school they would choose over Hofstra, will probably withdraw or turn down an offer. Making Hofstra's choices easier. Anyone who considers Hofstra a top choice, will wait patiently.

People who are super impatient, and withdraw from frustration, wouldn't survive medical school (especially a new & intensive curriculum) anyhow.

I highly doubt this is WHY they are doing things so slowly, but its an effect anyhow. More importantly, its not all that odd, given that some medical schools have accepted NO-ONE yet (they wait until the whole interview season is over).

I am surprised if they are in-fact still interviewing (but again, just because one person says interviews are ending, doesn't meant the school has to abide by that rule). Its not official unless its on paper. I'm sure you would all want to have the best and brightest classmates, and more interviews means better quality students in the end.

On a side note, the accepted students I've heard of are all genuinely excited about Hofstra, even with other great acceptances. Hopefully that means the first class with be strong, and the school can recruit top-kids every year.

Well said sir.

I know this was said earlier in the thread but I didnt see any responses. Those who were already accepted, do you plan on matriculating? Just curious... good luck to everyone

So why not put people on the waitlist if you're going to wait this long already? At least people know they aren't rejected and still have a shot if they get on the waitlist. As for comparing someone who gets frustrated by waiting for an admissions decision being correlated with one's ability to successfully tackle medical school rigors, that's absolute hogwash. I think Hofstra is just driving away incredible applicants who potentially would have gone there over another school with this strategy, not the other way around. Hofstra needs to have a modicum of respect for their applicants and tell them what their status is after 1/3 of a year has passed after interviewing.

Note: I haven't applied here.

I humbly disagree. I don't see how the two are related; totally different contexts. I imagine most applicants (not limited to Hofstra applicants) have to make major life alterations in order to attend medical school. And none of them are 100% keen on having to move/make living arrangements/etc at the very last minute. Their frustration with the waiting process is understandable at best, but in no way an indicator as to their ability to survive the rigors of medical school.

I am surprised if they are in-fact still interviewing (but again, just because one person says interviews are ending, doesn't meant the school has to abide by that rule). You are correct; though the Admissions Committee made it very clear that the last interviews were to be held 2/11, they reserve the right to entertain more applicants (and I wish those individuals the best of luck!🙂). However, I do again humbly disagree that more interviews means better quality students in the end. I don't think that is necessarily true. I am inclined to agree with FIREitUP that by further diluting the applicant pool, there is a potential of driving great candidates away...

Again, I am just providing healthy debate. I mean no offense to anyone. I loved my time at Hofstra and therefore would love the opportunity to attend; I sincerely wish that those who see themselves at "The Hof" receive that chance! Keep the faith!!🙂:xf::luck:

Such an adult and mature debate! Are we sure this still SDN? Shouldn't someone make an outrageous statement or challenge me to a duel or something?

I agree that people's patience with the methods of Hofstra's application process has nothing to do with handling medical school. A lot of people have important decisions to make that effect more than just themselves and the more time goes by the more difficult decisions become and the more other opportunities dwindle
