Still haven't gotten it!!! 🙁

But when I do, since I'm in town, I'm thinking about dropping it off at the school. Just want to make sure it gets there ASAP. Do you think that would be annoying?

Hey guys, just wanted to talk a lot of your off the ledge regarding the secondary. I applied last year and this is 99% where I'll be matriculating, and what I noticed while applying here is that they are very deliberate (a nice way of putting it) with their secondaries as well as interview invites. Invites started in late August, first dates were in early September, secondaries were released in batches in seemingly no particular order.

If you haven't gotten one yet, don't worry! They just tend to take a little longer than most schools. The screen is very low.

It could be if you have to go "out of your way" to get there..Honestly, a few days won't make a huge difference. I got it this morning and have finished it up...so I'm going to sit on it til late this afternoon after I get back home from work and then review it once more and send it off from CA...so it'll arrive in like, a week lol.

Send it FedEx. That was my secret for all paper apps, and it always got there very quickly and gave me total peace of mind. Worth the extra change.

It's not worth it to me because I'm cheap haha...Another few dollars for 1-2 days just isn't worth it lol. Seriously! First class USPS from CA takes 4 days instead of priority mail's 2 days.

Are you guys mailing it in a standard size envelope? Where you have to fold it all up. Or are you getting a bigger envelope? How many stamps then?

I have sent two applications in standard envelopes aalready but since Loyola is my top choice I don't want them to toss my application out for being too amateurish.

I have been using letter-sized envelopes (large ones you can buy at walgreens for very cheap, so i don't have to fold the applications).

I'm from chicago and have been putting 3 stamps on just to make sure- and it got to washington, dc fine with that 🙂

I didn't even buy the standard size envelopes. I "borrowed" them for the secretary of the biology department. I'm sure she has bigger ones... I'll just have to ask.

honestly though -- I don't see much wrong with folding up the application at first... but now I worry.

I've submitted all of mine in regular #10 envelopes (the one where you would have to fold the app). I really don't think it's a big deal either way..they aren't going to throw out an app on the basis of a fold lol. I think I've sent most apps (even ones with 8 pages) with 2 stamps..from CA to NY without a problem.

The large envelopes cost a little over a dollar for regular postage. Since the application will likely weigh more than 1 ounce, your added postage to fold it up won't be much less anyways.

Just received the secondary. Time to write some essays! Did you get yours turned in yet, DocBell?

Nope. I am in summer school so it takes me a little longer to get these done with hw and what not. I am going to mail it tomorrow though.

Wait?!?! I was suppose to add more than one stamp??? I just have been putting one stamp on each standard envelope with picture included. None have been returned -- and GWU and Rosalind sent me a received email so they got there a-OK.

I think I will send a nice non-folded 3-stamped envelope to Loyola though... but I just wanted to see what everyone else has been doing. ty!

and docbell -- you still have the chance to be early! I still haven't gotten my secondary yet. 😛

Hmm, that's odd..You probably have a lighter package than I do...because the PO weighed them all and told me how many to apply.

I just dropped them into a mailbox. haha. I might weight the the loyola one in my lab before I send it out. I never thought any of them were "that heavy" -- most of them seemed like they would be the average weight of a love letter (yannooo a few pages, pic included)... which is what I assumed one stamp was for.

Do you guys think it's appropriate to use the last question about updates and additional info to talk briefly about our interest in the school?

I can't even access the secondary because it won't take my VISA payment. Is anyone else having this problem?

I use Mastercard, but it took my payment without a hitch.

Do you guys think it's appropriate to use the last question about updates and additional info to talk briefly about our interest in the school?

I do not think that would be appropriate. I think they are looking specifically for what is currently going on in your life.

Are you guys typing the letter of rec form?

I've paid my fee and can log on, but when I submit my contact information I get an error when the pdf file should probably pop up. Same thing happens for my University of Arizona Application. Anyone know what might be happening?

Okay I have a question on how or if I can avoid repetition here. In question 6 (talk about your research/independent scholastic work) I planned on discussing my research, but I am currently doing my research full time- so I would basically have to write the same thing in question 7 (what are you doing this year). Any ideas?

Approach the two differently. The former requires you to explain what research you`re doing....and latter asks yous to tell them what you`re doing..so i doubt you need to explicitly state what that involves....

Good thinking- thanks. Sometimes I just need an external voice of reason hah.

I'm sure it's some arbitrary way of handing them out, to ensure that they get the secondaries back in a staggered fashion or whatever.

I really wouldn't worry about it. You have the prompts up, and since they're pretty lengthy, just work on those so you're ready to submit ASAP when you do receive it.

i would wait. i am fairly certain they screen below an 8 in any section.

they are known for taking their time processing secondaries, extending invites, etc. so even if you don't submit the primary til august, i don't think that would be too late. maybe someone else who made it past the screen with a 7 will correct me if i am wrong- but if you submit now i wouldn't be surprised if you did not get the secondary

I had a 7 on verbal and screened in today 😛

I have not heard anything from Loyola yet... Come on people, I need that secondary!

Now I feel awkward for receiving and sending it off on the same day...I was able to tackle it within a few hours, mostly bc I had ideas in my head that I were able to spin out quickly...

Haha that's good! Why would that be awkward?

Don't feel awkward, when they reuse essays year to year they can't expect people not to know the prompts ahead of time.

Dear med school admission gods,

Please send me the Loyola secondary today.

Sincerely,

Yet another anxious pre-med

😀

is there something we need to sacrifice? have we angered it in some way? This is a vengeful god.

Im still behind on secondary apps so I'm happy to wait haha

I finally sent this one off but I hear that! I didn't have chance to prewrite most of mine and its killing me.

ditto, however I wonder if because I indicated I retook the MCAT on July 8th, if they're gonna wait until August 10th to send my secondary... Hope not 🙁

I just got Loyola, I already have one MCAT score in but taking it again tomorrow. I guess the screen isn't that bad - I had 10 PS, 10 VR and 8 BS on my first MCAT, so clearly they do send secondaries out to people who got an 8 in one section.

Two years ago I received a secondary with a 7 in physical sciences on the MCAT. So they must screen below a 7 -- at least at that time.

Did you guys all follow the directions to staple your picture? Why can't we glue?
