Hey Everyone!
I have been accepted to CHM for the coming year🙂 Have you guys thought about choosing a preclinical campus- GR or EL? I really love the big ten campus feeling in EL but GR is an amazing facility. I am afraid that I am going to be out of place in GR- it seems like there isn't much to do.lol
Any thoughts?

Not much to do in GR??

I only spent 1 year in Lansing and I have never in my life been more displeased with a city.

Do you want to go out to bars with young professionals, or frat boys? Do you enjoy fighting for tickets to stadium concerts every few months, or seeing big name acts in small venues?

GR has a plenty to do downtown, great Indian, Thai, Chinese, and even Ethiopian food.

The art museum is surprisingly awesome, and you get to experience Art Prize every year.

I couldn't stand living in any other city in Michigan other than grand rapids (As reflected by my residency applications)

Happy to talk with you more, but trust me EL will be a huge disappointment if your traveling from any other sort of big city.

I thought I would take some time and look through these posts!!!

I can't believe the bickering that happened. Yes, the application process is quite stressful, but CHM is a team. Medical school is more of a challenge than the application process. I can tell you that. It is important that you maintain professionalism at all times--you'll learn this at CHM!

I am an OOS. I was invited for an interview last February. I interviewed in the middle of March and was accepted at the beginning of April. I was completed by the end of July and never had a status update until I was invited for an interview.

Let me know if you have any questions!

P.S. Grand Rapids rocks! The new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital is awesome!

congrats mdmph! are you IS/from Michigan or OOS? If OOS, what state if you don't mine! Thanks!

I'm in state and non-traditional in the sense that I applied with a MPH. Hope that's helpful!

Application complete 9/21
Interview invite 11/2
Interview 12/2
Acceptance offer 1/4

thanks md! you got your notification early I guess? maybe b/c you're an mph candidate? next two notification dates are Jan 11 and 18 based on what their website says.

Hi All,

I was just invited for an interview at MSU and I was wondering if anyone could give me any idea of what to expect. I know there is an interview with a faculty or admissions staff member, and also, an interview with a student. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.

Its a pretty standard Low Stress interview.

In fact I know as the interview dates get later and later it gets to be a bit of a drag. If anyone is interviewing in Feb or later let me know if they want to go get a drink or something the night before. I'd be happy to tell you everything you need to know about CHM (And maybe even some other schools)

Fellow OOSers, has anyone been waiting 4+ months for a decision and has yet to hear even a peep out of MSU? I am starting to wonder when/if I ever will.

Also nothing, though I wasn't marked complete until the beginning of October.

Thank you very much, Disinence2. I am glad to hear it is relatively low key. I appreciate your input!

fresco,

when were you complete? I'm still with no news from MSU and no change in status.

Not sure if fresco meant that the secondary application page just updated (w/o email notification)-- but when I check my application status on the secondary-- mine was marked complete after 2 days from submission.

"Your application is complete and has been forwarded to the review committee for a preliminary review. Thank you for your patience as we carefully consider your application."

Regarding OOS applicants:

Last year I was complete in early August. I was invited for an interview on February 4th and interviewed mid-March with an acceptance in early April.

I am currently sitting in Secchia Center - MSU-CHM Grand Rapids!

Patience is a virtue!

Always nice to hear stuff like this....gives me at least a bit of hope!

as you already know, this process is all about patience. All the wait, nerve wracking periods of silence, and unexpected notices hopefully will result in the culmination of one's dream which will make it all worth it. I just wanted to toss out a post to see if there has been any movement lately. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Just got the acceptance call. Good luck to everyone!

Congrats ThrusH! That's awesome!

I got the Alternate List email. Hope remains. Anybody have any idea what the odds are of being pulled from the list? Or how good the list movement is pre-May 15th?

Do they reconsider your application at each decision date among other interviewed applicants, or do they only dip into their Alternate List strictly when the number of accepted applicants falls below their quota?

Good luck to everyone in the running! I interviewed at their Secchia Center in Grand Rapids, and it was awe-inspiring. I was very impressed with their mission and aims as a school.

I think the wait list moves a fair amount. I have a spot now but pending another decision, I may give that spot up. I hope it goes to someone like you that wants it:xf:

Thanks, MTBRider! I originally didn't know much about MSU-CHM, but after everything I witnessed and was told at interview day, I'm thinking that they are now my top choice!

Forgive me if this has been answered before, but is MSU receptive to letters of interest? I was put on pre-interview hold back in Oct., and I would like to interview here.

I believe they're not. I think they're open to this only if you're on the waitlist. But check the website and see what it says. I'm basing all this off from there. If you need more clarification, I'd say call their admissions office and ask.

Does anyone else know when the next round of acceptances go out? Does everyone who interviewed prior to that date hear back from MSU or just some people?

I'm wondering this too, albeit in a different sense maybe. I was put on the alternate list from the last decision date last week, and I was wondering if they'll keep considering me at each decision date, or if I'll have to wait until whenever their number of accepted is <200 to be reconsidered for acceptance?

when did you interview mess?

I've been complete since 11/26 and have not heard anything. I even emailed them, and they responded with a message along the lines of "wait in line..."

Is this good or bad?? I'm really hoping for an interview!

cGPA: 3.73 sGPA: 3.70 mcat: 29s (according to their weighting)

I think we just have to be patient, since we turned it in very late!

I was complete 11/30 and I think the deadline was 11/31.

I would just hang in there and I'm sure we'll get a response in a bit.
Good luck! :luck:

are you IS or OOS? How's the app process going Hawaii, I see you have some interviews at some nice schools!

This process is quite stressful! But other than that, it has been a good year. =)

Right now I am just trying to occupy myself so that I don't keep checking these forums like 10x a day-- hoping to hear if someone got word from one of their schools. 😛

Good luck everyone! Hopefully MSU sends some more interviews soon!

Well, after looking through last year's thread, it seems that MSU starts to tackle its on-hold/waitlist/etc pile during mid February, and mostly offers interviews for late March or early April.

Thanks for this post. Makes sense. last time I was rejected from here when I applied to med school and it was on Feb. 20th. So perhaps this time that is when i can expect to hear something from them. 🙂

I'm surprised I've not heard yet. Seems like my friends were rejected from MSU and Albany already and I have yet to hear from either. Not even a preinterview hold. lol

Guess time will tell.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I was already rejected from Albany 😛 (Still have yet to hear a peep out of MSU though).

just got an interview at msu 🙂 anyone else on feb 24th?

How do you know if you're on hold? Will they say this in the status table at the bottom of the page? The most recent status just says I'm complete and ready for review.

I've been complete since 8/9 and haven't heard a peep. I'm an OOS applicant.

On the status table it will say, "Your application has been reviewed and your current status is 'Hold Before Interview.' The decision on your application has been deferred as we compare your application to the larger applicant pool."

Anyone know anything about the ABLE Program? I've seen the website but there's not much info on it. How many people get in? Curriculum? More details please...

I'm interviewing on the 24th but at the Grand Rapids campus.

Its a gorgeous facility. I interviewed there recently.

I don't suppose anyone could tell me about how long they waited after an interview to hear whether they were accepted/put on alternate/rejected?
