^I interviewed there on 10/14 and was notified early December that I was placed on the alternate list.
anything today.......? it's awfully quiet in here
I'm in the same boat as u. I wish they'd reject us if they don't want us already rather then torturing us.
Its a gorgeous facility. I interviewed there recently.
I don't suppose anyone could tell me about how long they waited after an interview to hear whether they were accepted/put on alternate/rejected?
Anyone know anything about the ABLE Program? I've seen the website but there's not much info on it. How many people get in? Curriculum? More details please...
Could someone who has interviewed at MSU tell me if they were asked for a CV/resume during their visit or found it helpful to have one?
I am interviewing soon and can prepare one if it will be useful, but I want to be sure that I am making the best use of my preparation time.
Thanks! 🙂
I wouldn't bring one if I were you. Your interviewers have all the application materials they need from you. It'll be a semi-open file interview, where your interviewers only have the non-academic parts of your AMCAS and your essays--no GPA, MCAT, courses taken, etc.
I think a better use of your preparation time would be to look at interview feedback reports for MSU, know your AMCAS application and essays inside and out, prepare yourself to potentially answer some bioethics questions, and be ready to discuss meaningful stories from your past.
Good luck! Just be yourself, stay comfortable, and you'll do just fine.
Surprised with an interview here on 2/24 at the Grand Rapids campus! I'm shocked because of my OOS status and my sub 30 MCAT score. I was originally on hold for an interview.![]()
Congrats! When were you offered the interview? Today?
Yup, just got the e-mail today. Good luck!
Have any accepted applicants received an official acceptance email after submitting their CBC?
Did anyone here anything on Feb. 1st? Didn't here a peep about that notification date. Maybe they had to cancel notifying people that day because of the snow-pocalypse that day. I live 20 minutes from the GR CHM campus and we got 16 inches of snow that night. Hoping to here something next tuesday.
Complete since sept. oos. no news. still in prelim interview. not even preinterview hold. with my stats I'd expected rejection by now but my friends already rejected and still no word from teh school. i also get teh problem u do and then refresh and it becomes normal.
actually i think the next notification date is the 8th of feb and then the one after that is the 15th of feb
I just sent in an update letter and I will probably send at least 2 more before May 15!
Med school admissions is a lot more complex then that. You have to realize the reason that update and interest letters make a difference sometimes even fi the person has more average stats then say another person is because at many schools they are trying to produce physicians who may either practice in that area after med school and residency or may fulfill some mission of theirs whether it is to become primary care physicians or academic physicians to increase number of physician scientists to continue the future of research or whatever whatever. Many kids with high stats will get accepted to certain schools but in truth never go to those schools because they are just backup schools.
For instance, USF prior to the past few years used to have half their class form waitlist because a lot of people with high stats and merit choose to go to more reputed schools. So they used to take into account update letters and stuff because it showed interest in actually attending USF and not just someone who has the merit but may not even end up going to the school. Also, it sometimes help show interest sometimes because it shows the difference between those who have merit to get in and are actually interested in going there and those who have the merit but will turn down a school.
Also, final point. If you've interviewed you have the merit to be there. The truth is it is already so highly selective to interview at a school. If a school has interviewed you chances are they believe in you and saw something in you that they liked. They believe you can make it through their program and may possibly be a good fit with the school to some degree. So who is to say that you are less qualified if you are on an unranked waitlist with others.
of course this would have to assume that this waitlist is unranked and that there is a chance of moving up. On ranked ones it is different and no amount of updates would do any good.
Maybe I'm irrational, but I'd like to think that most (if not all) schools would choose one candidate over another based on merit, not based on frequency of communications from the applicant.
I'm all for sending updates if you've got something substantial to add to your application. As far as LOI's, though, the fact that you fronted $150, went to an interview, and sent an update should be enough to drive the message home... multiple LOIs might come off as brown-nosing.

To all of the Feb 24th interviewees---
Is your interview for Fall 2011 or for the ABLE program Fall 2011? (out of curiosity)

From what I gleaned on interview day, when you get invited to interview, you are interviewing for, at base, a regular medical student status at MSU-CHM. After the interview, each applicant receives one of four outcomes: 1) Accepted, 2) Alternate List, 3) ABLE Program Referral, or 4) Rejection.
So I think ABLE is something that you get considered for after your interview. Good luck!
What's hard is the wait in limbo. Interviewed in Oct., but have received none of the 4 listed outcomes. I'm ok with it because it means I'm still in the running, but it's kind of strange to be good enough to still be under consideration and not waitlisted, but obviously not good enough to be accepted....yet.😉

When I interviewed there, they told me that if you have not heard anything in 6 weeks that it is appropriate to call or email them. I would not hesitate to contact them.
Congratulations!!! What a feeling it must be to get accepted 🙂 Do you have any tips for those of us who are interviewing at MSU in the upcoming week. What is the best way to prep?My call came at 6:39 tonight. What a great feeling.
Interviewed 1/20.
Good luck to everyone and congrats to those already accepted.
