I heard that OSU rolls a die for each candidate they interview. If it lands on a 5 or 6, you are accepted and get the phone call. If a 2, 3, or 4 shows up, you are deferred/waitlisted. And if they roll a 1 for you, it is a rejection.

3/4/5's (deferrals/waitlistees) get re-rolled after May 15th. Of those original 3/4/5's, a 6 is an acceptance (maybe a 5 as well, depending on how many slots they have open), 3/4/maybe 5 is a continued deferral/waitlist, and a 1 or 2 is a rejection.

GOOD luck guys! Pray for 5's and 6's

Hah! This was incredibly well thought out

👍

Is getting deferred at OSU basically like being waitlisted or do they actively review the deferred candidates and make a final decision? I have noticed that most people are either accepted or deferred post-interview. Does anyone know how their waitlist works and if they actually pull from it?

For second look weekend, are guests invited to everything or just some things? I assume everything since there isn't a distinction made on the website but I wanted to see if anyone heard otherwise. Also, they ask about a Parent's/Guests Session so that made me wonder too.

I believe that Dean capers said during the Interview day that they do actively review the waitlist and he said on my interview date in December that x number had been deferred and then accepted. I want to say x=12 but that seems too high to me...

I was there today. Dr. Capers does an amazing job of showcasing the school, even though they don't need to do that. The flash drive and bag are very nice touches. I'd love to attend. 🙂

The flash drive was an excellent touch! Most things said to me before my interview are lost on me, so having that to go back and refer to as I'm making my decisions now was awesome. I got to see basically half of the presentation again!

my flash drive was empty... feeling kind of gypped. also, when i left the SAFEauto garage, the parking voucher ticket i was given did not read in the automated machine so i ended up having to pay for that. i definitely thought there was some sort of conspiracy against me!

Yea, OSU did a lot of nice touches, between the interview day, the personal acceptance calls, and the letters they send out for acceptees from OSUCOM alumni in the area, they make it really difficult to choose another school 🙂.

What is the name of the airport people use in Ohio closest to Ohio State. I ask because I don't want to pick a private one that would be super expensive. Thanks for the help in advance.

Interviewing on Monday and I am sooo fired up for it! Only been thinking about this day EVERY day for like, 3 months. Super normal i know.😀

I just received an interview invitation this morning! No words can express how excited I am!

I have an interview scheduled for April 13th. If I can get the interview moved up a couple weeks should I take advantage of that or should I just keep the date I have?
Hoping for some collective wisdom here from those that have interviewed or any current med students. Thanks

Yeah its always better to move the date up. If for nothing else, you get accepted earlier and have a bit longer to make up your mind on where to go (except obviously you'd be coming to OSU, no brainer)

👍

Come on OSU...please come through! My UW interview on Tuesday will be pretty much stress free if I get that call from Dr. Capers. 🙂

This is a question about update letters.

So here's the deal. A month ago, I was invited to interview at OSU (the actual interview is next week). Since that time, I had a first-author paper published. I updated a few schools where I hadn't yet been offered an interview so they could put that info in my file. I didn't write anything to OSU, though, because I was thinking "well, I'll just talk about it in my interview and maybe send in something more formal afterward."

But now my impression is that the committee meets directly after the interviews so there would be no time to send in any formal letter after that time.

Two questions:
1. Is it true that the adcom meets directly after interviews?
2. Should I send in a formal update letter before my interview? Or should I rely on my interviewer(s) to pass that info along?

Thanks! And good luck to anybody waiting on decision Monday!

Hello All. I have an interview on March 14, and I was wondering what time the interviews concluded for most of you? The document claims 4 PM is the last interview no matter what, but what time did most of you finish? I am trying to make reservations now for my flights and need to plan accordingly. If anyone could shed some light on this I would be most appreciative. Thanks

The class at OSU is so large that it worries me a little. Do you feel like a group? What do you do for class bonding? What kinds of activities do you take part in during the year?

Just wanted to share this:

I went to Woody's Tavern at the Ohio Union the other night (OSU's student union), and they were having Open Mic Night and two second year med students sang and played guitars! So clearly they have lives...draw whatever conclusions you will.

They even played some B. Spears (but drew the line at the Biebs).

all the deferments are making me worried (sorry guys!)...my decision is coming in a few days and i want this so bad its not normal :xf:

ps i forgot to swing by the admissions before i left, what was the "parting gift"?

Anyone else get an email asking about the marital status of their biological parents for "potential scholarship reasons"?

What kind of computers do students use for class? Do any of the current students have recommendations?

anything from dells, HPs, sonys, acer, you name it (even Ipads, but you can't take test with that), as long as it's pretty recently purchased (within 2-3 years). Most of the class (at least 40% it feels like) has Macs book pros, if that's your thing then that works too

So, I think its safe to say that OSU has stopped sending invites?

Or do they send invites till april?

I just got my wayne state interview, but schools differ. Anyone know when they stop sending out invites?

Does anyone know if there are any academic calendars available somewhere on OSU's website? I can't seem to find them.

OMG You're awesome! Thanks!

Does the switch from quarter to semester system affect the med school?

yes they should have been talking about this a lot, we are actually getting a complete new and better curriculum in 2012

Please push for a true Pass/Fail system at OSU. I'd feel much more comfortable about going if that was implemented into the curriculum.

I don't remember anyone mentioning it during the interview date, but I heard news about this afterwards when it was announced somewhere in the news. I understand it's adopting a PBL system, along with more patient care, right? I assumed it would not affect our entering class since it would not be implemented until 2012.

This might answer my own question I suppose, though it might be dated: http://medicine.osu.edu/faculty/ces/resourcesforeducators/curriculumredesign/pages/index.aspx

"What is the timeline for the change? We plan to have an implementation team working during the 2009-2010 academic year with pilots planned for the 2011-2012 year. The full curriculum will be rolled out in 2012 at the latest."

I wouldn't worry about it too much, it wont effect your first year at least, I'm assuming your second year will be the same as your first so it's continuous and not the new stuff, but never know!

.... it is P/F

I don't think it's *true" pass fail, in that it essentially amounts to grades "Honors, High Pass, Pass, Sub-pass, Fail"

...Something along those lines. Correct me if I'm wrong (and I want to be wrong).
