Checked my status today, all boxes are green check marks and in red it says "In Review". I assume that means I'm complete?

For those wondering, Downstate is located Flatbush, one of Brooklyn's communities. I work in EMS so bring patients there relatively often, even more often to Kings County Hospital and Kingsbrook Jewish Hospital. All three hospitals are literally across the street from one another. Kings County is biggest, most infamous (in a bad way) and is the only Level 1 trauma out of all 3. Downstate has a relatively smallish ER. The location, Flatbush, is not the best area of Brooklyn, but certainly not the worst. That said, Prospect Park and Park Slope are both close by, and nice areas, especially Park Slope. By train, it would take ~20 minutes to get into Manhattan if the city is your thing. Like someone else said, clinical experience will probably be good here, as you get a lot of sick patients due to the nature of the area. Most people will be on Medicare/Medicaid or not insured at all.

Mine says "Initial Review"..I already received my letter via snail mail about being complete quite some time ago. Have you?

Hi All

I had an interview here last application cycle but didn't get in. I'm really hoping to get in this year. Some changes I've made this time around: app. is complete 7 weeks earlier (3rd week of July this time, first week of Sept. last time), a publication, new clinical research, a really strong LOR from a new P.I., increased clinical exposure, more non-clinical volunteering, and a much better P.S.

Anyone care to comment on my chances this time around, chances of getting an interview and chances of landing an acceptance? Thanks!

With your improved application and increased clinical exposure I think you have a very good chance. Just come well prepared for the interview.

Good luck everyone!

Wow, man I spent a lot of time on all the secondary essays possible for this school. It is by far and away my number 1. I hope they don't ask me the same question about 'list your non medical community service/activities" becuase my emphasis has been on medical activities haha...

just wait and see I guess...

Just got invited for an interview for September 14! I sent in my application 7/21 or 7/22.

Try not read too much into this. Few schools review in exact chronological order.

Haha okay...I did have a question though...is "initial review" the status one should have at this point, after being complete?

They sent me an email for the interview, but I never got any correspondence from them until this. I was never notified to send in a secondary, but I did when I heard that it was on the site.

My stats are 3.45 sgpa, 3.46 cgpa and 37R mcat (14 bs, 12 ps, 11 v)

interview 9/15, oos, sec submitted 7/21, 3.64, 32P

For those who didn't get an email asking them to fill the app out,

did you pay by including money order or did you select online payment and had to wait till they sent you an account to log in?

I want to submit my app first thing tomorrow, but I just wanted to be sure which way would lead to the faster processing.

Thanks

just got invite too!!

unfortunately its on sept 20th, i wanted to have it mid october (and from the email saying it will only be changed for a legitimate reason- prob means that my reason of wanting to have time for other schools interviews to use as practice so i dont mess up on this one- wont cut it)
i purposely scheduled einstein for mid october bec its also one of my very top choices

Hmm, I would have just done it to get it over with...I'd like to be "done" by 15 October if I'm lucky...Try to do mock interviews and go into your interviews with confidence and mentality "it's just an interview, you can't please them all. Do your best"!

my interview is sept 20th too, see you there!

Anyone know the stats for SUNY? Is it 31 MCAT, 3.65 GPA? if it is, what would it take for an OOS to get accepted?

Downstate hospital is in east flatbush, which is not walking distance to Park Slope (that is a 15 minute train ride depending are where you are in park slope)The neighborhood is not that bad....though you do know you are in am urban neighborhood. There is lots of housing (meaning apartments that are even walking distance). The school it self is very good. the medical school is connect to kings county hospital which is one of two city hospitals. You will learn a lot from your experience there. There is a very large minority populations.

When were you complete? Your secondary that is. And how were you notified? Via snail mail or email? I am IS, complete July 16, 35 mcat, 3.3 cpga and 3.7 sgpa...

This is my dream school

SUNY Downstate's website says they do NOT review applications in the order in which they were complete, so don't worry too much. If they want to interview you, you'll get an invitation at some point.

I got a notification via email; I was complete early-mid July.

I have a question about the supplemental, where you list the courses you've taken, I recieved AP credit for gen bio and gen chem. Anyone know what I should put for these on the application? On the website it says AP credit is accepted if your undergraduate institution accepted it. Thanks

i sent in my secondary mid-July (though I never got a "complete" email?) & received the interview invite via email.

don't lose hope, i'm sure they're sending out invites in waves. good luck! :luck:

hey guys, if school uploads rec to interfolio, then we send it from interfolio to amcas, which then goes to the medical schools... do we check both AMCAS and Interfolio? (pretty sure about AMCAs, not so sure about interfolio..)

Hey guys! I just saw that the new SUNY Downstate thread is up so I'm here to say welcome! I am a student at Downstate heading into my second year. I am more than happy to offer advice and answer questions that you may have!

In addition, I am leading the tour on Sept. 15th...anyone gonna be there?

Best of luck guys! I'm sure some of you will see me at some point this year!😀

Awww, no! I'll be there on the 21st! It'll be interesting to see what it's like there; I'm excited to have an interview here and tour the facilities. it's one of my top choices!

Hmm, I was verified a week ago but haven't gotten a secondary yet. Does it take a while?

For all I know I might do the 21st as well...the only reason I know I am doing the 15th now is because I requested the tour group of a friend of mine who is interviewing and I think it will be good for him to see a friendly face during the day 🙂

The rest of the interview season isn't planned yet in terms of tour guides til the schedule for the year goes up.

I'll say my general catchphrase from last year's thread...If you wanna find me, look for the guy in the backwards red sox cap 😀

when you interviewed here, did you find it to stressful or was the interviewer pretty relaxed? could you tell us about how the interview process goes?

So I was offered 9 interviews and went to 5 of them when I applied. Downstate's was by far the most relaxed. It was more of a conversation than an interview.

The day will start out with a small presentation by the admissions office, then some of you will have interviews, then there will be a Q&A session with admissions people, then I'll come by and pick you all up for your tour, which will take around 30 min, then we'll all eat lunch together and you can ask me whatever you want, then some of you will be done and go home while the ones who haven't interviewed yet will go do their interviews.

I put advanced Bio classes on the secondary. But, I guess you can put your AP classes too.

I got an invite too!

Where are you all staying? They don't host do they? Do you think staying at NYU is too far? I've never been to NY..

Nowhere in New York will be too far for you. Just prepare ahead of time to travel up to an hour and you will be fine. Staying with a friend at NYU will leave you right by some trains to get to Downstate. Enjoy your trip! It's an awesome school too--congrats!

Interview for me!

~3.7/35, IS, complete 8/4. See you guys on the 14th!

Interview Invite 8/17 for 9/30
Complete 7/29/10

What dates are all of you guys interviewing? I'm going to be in NYC the first week of September and am contemplating sending an "in-the-area" email.

I'd say that date is a little too early for you, mashers.

I was invited for my interview a week or two ago and they gave me a Sept. 29 one.

But who knows? The guy leading the Sept. 15 tour should be able to answer your question.
