Are you IS or OOS? I interviewed a few days before you, and I didn't receive anything in the mail today. =(

This wait/overanalyzing is gonna drive me insane...

I am oos, from MA so not too far away. If youre oos and further away, maybe its just taking longer to get to you. Good luck, I hope you hear from them soon!

Congrats guys! I'm surprised at some of the turnarounds (<4 weeks).

Also, DS is known for having variable wait-periods, my guess is that it depends if your interviewer can make the meeting or not.

Do the people who have been accepted have the changes on their Checklists? Congrats!!

Congrats guys!!!!

Hey guys,

congratulations on all the acceptances! I'm hoping to hear some good news from SUNY Downstate since it my top choice...even though I'm from Cali. It's quite an attractive option for me at this point, but I guess I'll find out in a few days, assuming my letter was mailed out lol) :xf:
:luck::luck: to everyone else awaiting!

I guess I can't expect too much though, since there hasn't been a change in my status--although a few others with acceptances seem to have no change from "initial review" either.

I just looked on FB and theres a group run by the administration with 2 member currently. Do people generally no join until they have decided on the school for sure? I was hoping to use it as a tool to connect with current students, set up revisit times, etc.

I just got a letter (snail mail) from Downstate saying that my application is on hold because they need to receive my fall semester grades. I already graduated and am only taking a biochem class. Has anyone else heard this from Downstate? I feel like if they wait to review my app until January it's going to be too late 🙁

Why not send them an email asking about it? I don't see why they would put you on hold for taking an *optional* class. I mean, it's not like biochem is required ...

That's exactly how I feel. I'm going to call tomorrow.

Hmm, is it just me, or did it get very quiet in this thread? I've yet to hear from Downstate post-interview, which I think is a "wee bit strange" given that they've handed our acceptances to people who interviewed in Late September...maybe it means what I think it means *gasp* lol.

Well I heard back (on Monday) and I was not accepted (not rejected either though).

This hasn't been asked of me, but knowing from friends who've gone through the process before, this isn't uncommon for Downstate if you're still in school or told them you're taking classes.

Has anyone received an interview invite lately? If so, when were you complete?

Hey all you lucky people who have already been accepted...would you mind shedding some light on your stats??

Still hoping to get an interview invite here...

big sigh - this process is awful - I think it's almost like hazing - only it lasts for years - all the hard long tedious tenacious work it takes to just to get to this point and then the waaaaaiting...

its really tough

heres hoping :xf:

Just received an interview invite 10/27 for 11/24 :luck:
Hopefully its not straight for waitlist or anything because I really like this school! I suppose its still relatively early...ergh...right? -_-

For those of you wondering, was complete around 9/22.

Congrats on the interview! I had a friend who interviewed and was accepted around that time of the year and I think he heard by December...so you should be good to go! Good luck!

*Still waiting...probably futile haha* I am very curious as to why no one from my interview date has posted any news...wishful thinking: no decisions were made about that interview day...alternatively: No love from SUNY DS.

I got the post-interview hold on Monday, which was like a big punch in the stomach. I'm IS, average GPA, above-average MCAT. I love Brooklyn, that area and was really considering going here over nearly all other schools I applied to, regardless of prestige. I've spent a lot of time working on literacy programs and other community endeavors in NY and thought it'd be a perfect fit. I know I shouldn't be, but I was completely shocked and just...whatever, it's disappointing.

There is also a very large consistency between interviewers. Look up the interview feedback. I would say 70% of the interviewer's questions (at least) are from a list of questions. I suppose it is possible for an interviewer to not ask from the list, but it isn't very likely.

My interviewer started off asking me questions about my application he simply thought were interesting. We chatted like that for a bit, and then he pulled out this sheet of paper which needed to be filled out for the committee. He told me that he *could* make up answers for the questions on it, but he'd rather just ask me the questions himself. They were pretty dumb.

The same thing happened to me, I was surprised as well because the interviewer had said he thought I was great applicant and a great fit for Downstate. But there are definitely other schools, and I hope you have good luck with them.

Oh crap, I had my interviewer say that to me....but I've yet to hear anything from them as a mid-September interviewee. I personally think they either haven't gotten to my file yet or they've decided "rejected"...Do they send out rejection letters at this time?

I'm a current downstate ms4, feel free to PM me if you have questions.

I would be wary of joining any Downstate group on fb run by administrators or adding them as fb friends. This isn't just at Downstate, but in general. Keep your professional/academic life separate from your social life. Issues have come up in the past (at other schools, not here thankfully) of people posting pictures of things/people/situations etc deemed inappropriate or unprofessional by whomever it may be and had action taken against them.. it's not common, but it happens. That being said, though, a lot of people in my class are friended to administrators and are members of groups run by them, etc. In the end, it's whatever you're comfortable with.

I'm prettttttttty sure November is still early. lol. When I applied I interviewed at the end of January and got in w/o first being waitlisted.

I agree with your philosophy, but just to play Devil's Advocate, I think that it's okay to join the Facebook group so that you can "network" with fellow classmates and potentially find housing--Downstate M1s that I know used that method to find housing together (especially for OOS)...Just my two cents. 🙂

Oh yea, I agree. At least for my year and the class below me, there were groups created by upperclassmen titled "SUNY Downstate class of ___". It's a good way to get to know each other, arrange for apartments, and even hang out in the summer before school starts. My class' group was created by someone in the class above us who was involved with orientation, etc.

Did anyone receive the housing application or health forms along with their acceptance letter?

I've been checking the application checklist, and there's green checks next to everything, so they have all the materials they need. However, I still haven't received a message officially stating that I'm complete yet. Should I contact the admissions office? Or just hang tight?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure they don't send a complete email--you should get a letter in the mail soon confirming that you're complete. Hang tight!

If they ask for additional information, does that mean they are interested?

In my experience, yes. Three schools have asked me for more info this cycle, and all three have offered me interviews.

That's good to know. They asked me for documentation about a class requirement, is this common? I think they want me to prove that a certain class satisfies a lab requirement or something.

I deleted my responses. But back to news on downstate. Do you know if they accept update letters? Also if we haven't heard back should we contact them about status?

Let me know if you know anything about either of these.

You can send them update letters, but I didn't ask if they would prefer email vs. snail mail. I was planning to send it snail mail. I got a letter saying that my application was put on hold until they got my fall semester grades, so I called to clarify. The woman I spoke with was very helpful, so I think she would be receptive to you calling to ask about your status.

Just a word of advice, when I called I had to let the phone there ring about 30 times (no voicemail) until someone picked up. Just let it ring until someone answers!

Has anyone received an interview invite lately from Downstate? If so please include when you were complete by 🙂 Thanks!
