Thanks guys! 👍

:luck: to everyone else! Iowa impressed me more than I expected. Let me know if anyone has questions about how the interview day ran! WOOHOO 😀
ya me too i had a good experience there ... great place...

Accepted too!!!!! Really surprised this came so soon but happy nonetheless. Go hawkeyes!!

I did! Did you interview on the 24th as well?

Yep. I didn't think my interview went all that well, but who knows. I just want to have a decision either way soon, I'm not a fan of the waiting part.

Unfortunately, if you don't hear from them in about month after your interview (a while longer for you early interviewers) you've probably been moved to the final pool, and then you don't hear anything until March 15th. Lame

that might not be completely accurate.... if you look at last years thread, you'll see that it isn't exactly the case... some people hear from Carver until ~1.5-2months later; maybe only for last year was the oddity though, because folks in last years thread believed same as you did.

Just my 2cents...

Congrats to all that have received acceptances! 👍

There was also a thing where people sent in updates and were accepted a couple weeks later. That might just be coincidence though...and it's probably too early to send those updates right now 🙄

Okay this might be a dumb question, but on the secondary when you enter your classes and it says Institution and dates from and dates to...do they want the dates we attended the school, or dates we took that specific class?

The dates when you took that specific course.

Thanks so much...that's what I was leaning towards, but they gave no instruction so I wasn't 100% sure.

Hey what car rental company did you go with?

For me, and what I've heard from the other interviewees for this year, the day ended around 4. I think the admissions office tells you 5, so they have leeway. One thing you could do is contact the admissions office and explain your predicament; you might be able to ask to do the CBL first, and then have the first interview after that, so you'd be among the first done. Again, I did interview, then wait, then CBL and was done at 4.

The other thing that will take some time is getting out of IC...red lights and really bold pedestrians! So, yeah, I would put it 40 minutes getting to the airport. (I walked to my car ~15 min away, got lost, and left at 4:40, and got to the airport ~5:20. It's not bad once you get on the interstate).

Why do you think you'll need 25 min to check a car? ...all I can say is, on Weds evenings at 6 pm, the airport wasn't exactly hopping. But, true, that can vary from day to day.

I guess: if the interview day ends at 5, allow yourself 1 hour to get to your car, leave, and get to the airport. That should give you another 30 minutes to gather your belongings (backpack and suit-bag work great for OOS interviews...and I'm a girl who fit all her makeup, hair stuff, and calculus books into one bookbag ) and check the car. If absolutely necessary, you don't need to change, even so, change at the airport if you feel you really need the extra time...getting through security - depends on the day, but 10 minutes has been the length in the past for me on weeknights. So it's 6:45, and you should be waiting for your plane! And, if your plane leaves at 7:20, it should start boarding at 7:00-7:10 (at the earliest, provided it's on time.) So, I would assume you'd be fine. Best advice would be, I guess, to call admissions and ask about scheduling.
(Sorry for the long winded response!😳)

I stayed with family, but definitely recommend student hosts!! Don't know about a car/shuttle....being from the midwest, I depend on a car. You should be able to get one from the airport for $30? The shuttle around IC is good (you just have to know the time schedule and it does tend to run ~5 min late), and the shuttles from the hotel to the school would be fine, too, but I don't know about getting to the airport. Everyone OOS on my interview day rented a car I believe.

I'm sorry, I didn't rent a car since I stayed with family. The price I quoted was what I had been told in general but not for a specific company.

Also, so....interesting situation: I'm neither accepted, rejected, or on the waitlist. My school is fairly small, so they require a pre-med committee letter (there's no way all the professors could write multiple letters for each student applying and still have any time for teaching ). My pre-med commitee letter, however, apparently didn't include enough information about me - so today, instead of an acceptance, I got a very gracious email asking me for more letters. I know the committee letter was good (as far as it went) - I had talked to the professors (again, small school) and they have all assured me I am a "strong candidate" "you should really go MD/PhD" (haha, not with my MCAT) "wow, you'll get in no problem" and the professor that compiled it all assured me strongly it was a good letter (Sorry, not trying to be offensive or a braggart here, just saying - the letter was good as far as I am concerned, but poorly written, apparently, does that make sense?) Soooo, now I get to solicit additional letters.....and this really does not comfort me about my other applications 🙄

My question is - has anyone heard of this happening before? Do you have any advice (beyond getting more letters)?

So I was researching Iowa a bit and I assume they have an emergency med program, but I can't really find anything. Am I wrong?

Thanks guys! 👍

Congrats on the acceptance! Can you share a little about how the interview day went? How was your actual interview? Thanks!

Sure! Began at 10:30am (may be different if you have the earlier start). Info in the morning, lunch/tour, CBL/interview. Pretty typical. Interview has a structured and unstructured portion. The interviewers are required to ask you three required questions then the discussion opens up and they're free to ask you anything they'd like. How the CBL works is explained in detail earlier in this thread so I won't describe it all again, but it's very chill. I really enjoyed the exposure to how it worked.

All in all, you get in-depth info and are exposed to the campus in a relaxing manner. Don't even sweat it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the school!

Thanks for sharing! i still have a few weeks before my interview, but i'm already getting nervous

Anybody getting nervous for tomorrow? Emails go out on Tuesdays right? I interviewed earlier this month so don't know if they will get to those interviews yet but here is for hoping!:xf:

Interviewing tomorrow, in-state student! Anyone else gonna be there?

In addition, is there anyone who interviewed just a couple of weeks ago and already found out whether or not they were accepted?

At my interview yesterday, we were told that they were still working on September interviews so I'm guessing you might have to wait a while longer.

Thanks for posting that. I interviewed in September and was starting to lose hope.

Congratulations guys.... u r truly the lucky ones...

my interview is next week....I'm driving from Dallas to IA on Saturday.... wish me luck.:luck:

Congrats to Maizebaby and flatlandhiker! I agree I was pleasantly surprised when I visited. I really like the hometown feel to the city too, nice place for a family anyways.

I was really hoping to hear back today- looks like they started the 10/6 interviews too! Oh well, maybe they didn't get to my file yet or it wasn't chosen to be forwarded to the large committee. Maybe next week will be lucky for me:luck:.

Does UI only send out acceptances on Tuesdays??

Congrats maizebaby and flatlandhiker!

Yep. There was a really good post on the previous page with details on how the adcom reviews files. Basically, it meets on Tuesdays and sends emails for acceptances as soon as it can (Tuesday afternoon/night).

Modification to my above post: UI sends out acceptances on Tuesdays, but if your email is acting stupid and bounces back that email, you'll get the acceptance the next day. I'm accepted!! So happy!

Did they call you or how did you know you were accepted?

Thanks! GL on your interview (and the long drive from Dallas, yikes!).

They forwarded the returned email. I don't really know what happened with my email account...have you had a bounced email before or anything?

Thanks for the response. I have had that happen because our school switched spam mail systems and now we don't even get junk mail it all gets deleted or filtered out so we can't even see it. I did get the interview invite fine though...I don't want to call and feel dumb for thinking they could have accepted me. But congratulations to you! That must have been a pleasant surprise!

hi everyone,

just wondering im an oos and complete end of september any idea when should be expecting to hear anything from here?

Just completed my interview and it went pretty much exactly as described earlier. Has anyone else been accepted from a more recent interview? Really curious to see just how far they've gotten with their initial selection pools.

Thanks, it was an awesome surprise 😍 Hope you hear from UI on Tuesday!

Hey, for those of you with acceptances, has anyone gotten the ISIS log-in information yet? I'd like to pay my $50, but the acceptance confirmation letter that came in the mail said that information would come in another letter.

Thanks!

It will come by email. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we have to pay the $50 until March.

I actually got a big thick packet in the snail mail this afternoon, so question answered there. I haven't had time to read through it yet, though, so I couldn't give you an answer on the $50 yet.
