Hey guys, I have a question about the pre-requisite courses for UMass. I was recently accepted and sent my transcript to the office the other day. I figured since I had made it this far in the process I must have completed the pre-reqs, but when I checked online about what they were, the website said that "Course work in these areas must be completed within the last six years". I am a non-traditional applicant and I graduated in 2007, which means that many of the courses that satisfy the pre-reqs were taken more than 6 years ago. Is it a possibility that I will have to re-take classes or not be allowed to attend?

Thanks!

Obviously this is a question only the admissions office can answer definitively but I know there used to be the caveat that if you had continued work in the sciences that 6 year max might be waived.

On a totally unrelated note, I have my interview wednesday during the predicted snow/ice storm and so I'm thinking of driving out to worcester ahead of time and staying there. Has anyone stayed out there and have a place to recommend?

Ohh good luck at your interview! There is a hotel, I think it's called the Beechwood Hotel) that's literally across the street on Plantation St. Not sure what else is around but I bet you could get a nice last minute deal on Hotwire if you search Worcester.

Thanks anna.

Actually our interview day got cancelled so I'm rescheduled for later in the month and hopefully it won't storm that day!

I was supposed to have an interview tomorrow, but it got cancelled because of the snow.

Oh it's good they did that! The weather is freaking brutal. But that apparently doesn't stop the school from making the students get to class. So just as an FYI to accepted kids, I guess the downside to UMass is that we literally get no snow days. The chancellor has said that the day UMass gets a snow day is the day dinosaurs roam the earth again. Better invest in some stellar winter tires folks.

I interviewed way back in October. I have updated grades from the fall which bring up my GPA slightly (3.7 to 3.75). MCAT is 31 and balanced. I have been accepted at other schools, so my interviewing is apparently okay, and I think my interviews went well at Umass. Since it has been so long without word and my app is about avg for Umass, I don't think I would be rejected straight out. I'm thinking I'll probably get the waitlist. Please let me know if my reasoning is poor. Should I send an update/letter of intent, or should I wait until I will probably become waitlisted in March/April? Any thoughts?

Don't think about it like that. I spoke to plenty of people who interviewed Sept-Nov. last year and didn't hear one word from UMass until March. I have similar stats to you (3.8/33Q), interviewed there in Nov., and haven't heard anything. Just don't worry, esp. if you've gotten in other places.

It's been awhile since we got any sort of news hear. Hopefully somebody will find out something today, this wait just kind of sucks.

accepted today by email!!!!

Congrats! I was also accepted today via email!!! Super excited and am almost certain I'm attending. Interviewed 1/25.

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear!

Wow that was so quick! You are so lucky. I interviewed way before you and am still waiting. Congrats. Mind sharing your stats?

Does anyone know for sure that UMass accepts based on the demographics of MA? Now I used to think that maybe it was just coincidental with the low # of Asians at UMass, but last year's thread mentioned that UMass tries to match its student profile to the state demographics.

Depressing because there are just way more asians applicants in MA overall... and yet UMass is not accepting based on who's applying...

Sigh...

Just read on the website that first year medical students are not allowed to park on campus. What could be the reason for this?

There's a lot of construction on campus, so parking is very tight. I did an away rotation there, and I had to park in a satellite lot and take a shuttle every day. It was a minor inconvenience, but not a huge deal.

So do you think this will change when the ASC goes up?

P.S. For some reason I just started getting excited and pumped yesterday about UMASS. I think I've started getting my mind in gear for matriculation which will most likely be here pending unforseen circumstances. GLuck to all those still waiting to hear.

Has anyone who interviewed in the begining of December heard back yet?

Rejected today pre-interview...after sending an update email yesterday a new publication.
Ouch!

Sorry to hear🙁. Chances are the decision had been made before your update letter was processed. But you have some acceptances so it's not all bad. Chin up🙂

Thanks 🙂 I've been very lucky this cycle and I can't let myself get too upset. Best wishes to you too!

Interview invite received yesterday for March 15th. I'm so excited...UMass is my number one choice. Will anyone else be there on the same day?

Congrats. Enjoy the interview day

When does UMass have to give us a decision by? I'd like to know if I got in or not so I could choose between what schools I've gotten into so far! I just want to know where I'm goingggggggg

MSTP Rejection
33Q/3.83 OOS
Application in mid November

so apparently UMass doesn't have to tell us one way or another until May 15 (even if we haven't heard anything since our interview). That's really inconsiderate IMO because we have to choose where to go BY may 15! Even though you have 2 weeks to decide after May 15, that's still a big decision to make in 2 weeks. I thought the usual MO of schools was to tell everyone by March and then drag people on the waitlist on and on and on...?

Does the committee meet every Friday? Does anyone know?

From my interview day, they mentioned everyone would know by April

From previous years, it looks like they meet the 3rd friday of every month.

From my experience last year, students who were accepted found out before April. Then at the very beginning of April and then throughout the whole month, people were either waitlisted or rejected. Waitlisted students were then taken off slowly until about June - some heard really quickly, like days, then others like myself waited months. So hopefully this year by April, you will have heard something from the school. Don't worry so much about the deadlines, you will hear before May 15th. I think the school just tells you that because they can't promise a specific date when students will get a decision.

I don't think so, but we should make one! I got in ED back in October and would love to start meeting future classmates 🙂

Hey guys, I am trying to figure out when I will need to move, quit my job, etc, and was wondering if anyone knew when classes will start this year / when they have started in years past.

Thanks!

Although UMASS is cheap already, does any one know if they give out good scholarships or not really?

I'm not sure what split they try to get in their classes, but I do know for sure that if a white female withdraws an acceptance then they pick another white female with similar stats off the waitlist. Not sure if it matches up with MA demographics or not.

I was told the same thing by someone VERY familiar with the admissions process at UMMS.

I'm going to go out on a limb and bet in the next 3 hours there will be a few posts with people getting accepted. Any takers?

haha the thread's been silent since your guess, BigSky. Guess I should have taken you up on that bet...

It was close to three hours. Close enough I'd say. Now we wait another month to possible hear some news. Stupid waiting

Hey fellas,

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with the forum. Can someone explain to me how you know when we're supposed to hear from UMass?

Goodluck and have a good weekend

Every four weeks they'll release a little bit of info on a Friday. They usually only release a bit of news at a time. Usually they send out the majority of the decisions in April sometime. So basically its a little trickle of information followed by a massive wave.

Hopefully most people will hear in a month or so.
