Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone else has been accepted to the 4 year MD/MPH program at Miami. If so, are you planning to go?
By the way, good luck to everyone that's still waiting to receive an interview invitation, have an interview, or to hear a decision. I was really impressed with the school when I visited for interview day, so I'm sure you will be too!

I was accepted to both the regular and the MD/MPH program. I haven't decided for sure, but I will probably end up doing the MD/MPH. It is a really good deal and I would think it would make me more competitive for residencies. What are you thinking about doing??

How come one can't send you a private message?

I'm glad to answer general questions in the public forum but I'd like to avoid being messaged about individual applications or situations that might place me in a situation to speculate on one person's application. I hope you understand.

Do you guys remember when they told the people who interviewed at the end of nov/ early December when they'll hear back?

If you haven't heard already then it won't be any sooner than January 12th.

Oh ok. Makes sense. Yeah I understand completely. Just figured I'd ask.

So is there anyway to find out your status from Miami? Or does a person just have to call?

Calling is probably your best bet, especially over email and letters. If you've been wait listed there probably won't be any movement until April 15th.

I believe its May 15th. That is the last day students can hold more than one acceptance.

Hi Guys,

I completed my secondary early Oct. and still havent heard back regarding a interview...Though my verbal score on the MCAT is on the low side-I am fluent in 3 languages (Spanish and Portuguese), hold a PhD in Biochemistry & Genetics (my physical science and biology scores were excellent!) and have plenty of life, clinical and research experience...

Every time I call the admissions office (or Dr. Weisman directly), they tell me that my application is 'currently being reviewed by the admissions committee and that they will continue to interview till the end of March'-....Given that it is late in the game w/o an interview offer, do you guys think it is likely that I will be interviewed at all? BTW, Im from OOS (Cornell Univer.)....

All in all, this is my first choice and am getting abit antsy. Thanks for your input!!!

you are still waiting for a secondary or you are waiting for an interview? miami sends secondaries to all applicants, i believe, so you should have received one by now.

otherwise, i'm in the same boat waiting for an interview invite.... or a rejection. or any word at all since being complete.

Sorry, I meant to say interview.

I called them yesterday, and it seems that my application has not yet been reviewed by the admissions committee! They said to continue to wait and that they will be carrying out more interviews in the coming months...Indeed, my application has been confirmed 'complete', now its just a waiting game as to the interview or a rejection! Why is it taking so long??? Also, has anyone gotten a rejection letter following the review of the secondary app or do they prolong the painful process and keep you waiting until the very end (ie April-May)?

Thanks

yeah, i am wondering the same thing regarding getting a rejection letter post secondary, or whether they make us wait til the end? hope not, i would rather find out sooner than later.

I'm in the same boat, completed the secondary in Sept. and still haven't heard a word. Last cycle they didn't send me any information until march (rejection).

I was complete sometime at the end of august. Interview invite today for the MD/MPH program (OOS, 3.5 gpa, 32 MCAT)🙂! I am actually really surprised considering all the rejections I've gotten lately, but completely and totally excited since this sounded like the ideal program for me.
Has anyone done the two day MD/MPH interview and could maybe fill me in? I'm scheduled for Feb 7&8, very nervous, no idea what to expect. . .
cheers!

The people who interviewed for MD/MPH when I was there did everything with just MD applicants the first day (tour, lunch etc), except interview- then on day two they had their interviews.

hmm... this excerpt, from a while back, made me much less psyched about my interview invite today (jan 10) and my interview (feb 7&8). I wonder if this means I'm likely interviewing for a waitlist sort, or won't hear anything til April 15, over 2 months after my interview? How nerve racking!

At this point they have accepted approximately 1/3 of the incoming class for both the MD and MD/MPH program. By late December/early January they have accepted a number of students that is equal to the number of seats available in the class, and so therefore cannot accept any more until people relinquish their acceptances and spots open up.

Having said that, on April 15th when everyone has to commit to 1 program, we will give out more acceptances than any other day as people relinquish their spots at UM.

Congrats on your invite!!! I would not worry much, I think in general that they are giving you the same treatment and consideration as other applicants. Besides, once people commit to other schools you are more than likely to get a spot! At this point, you are approximately 80% in than out, all you gotta do is be yourself and be confident! Best of luck on the interview!!!👍

I think people who interviewed in early Dec will find out today.

Indeed, I believe the committee meets today between 4-5pm; but does anyone know if they will also be discussing potential new interview invitations??? Im sooo hoping for an invitation!

For all of you like me who are tallying up supposed silent rejections, keep hope! I got invited for an interview, complete mid-November. I'm not going to be able to interview until the 21/22 (for MD/MD-MPH) due to prior commitments, which from what I've read means I'm unlikely to hear anything after that until mid-April. Still, I'm excited! If anyone else interviews on those dates, shoot me a PM.

Keep up the hope, girls and guys! 👍

accepted!!! just got the call

interview 12/6

really??! thats awesome, congrats! I was there the same day and no phone call. yikes... its cool im sure the admissions people just decided damn its 6 pm so time to go home, enjoy a nice scotch, and they will get to me in the morning.

I did the interview a few days after you guys but they also told us to wait by the phone today. Apparently a call means either an acceptance or a waitlist. No call means a rejection in april/may

yea... i was kidding about the "im sure they will get to me in the morning" thing

hey, dont worry yet... i didnt get the acceptance call for over a month after the date they told us we would on our interview day.

Anyone with a recent interview invitation know around which dates are being offered? I have an early/mid feb interview in georgia and am considering sending umiami an 'in the area' email.

not a call or an email, and i interviewed 12/6. should i presume they haven't discussed my case yet?

I had finished mine late Sept. I just heard back last week. I think they just have a lot of apps to get through.

I do not want to start an arguing match here, but I am curious to know what everyone thinks about UM vs. UF med schools from an in state perspective? (tuition wise)😕

I understand that UM has great clinical and research opportunities, but do you think it is possible to say they are better than UF's?

They are about the same. It's all about where YOU are a better fit. For me, that's Miami, but others will do better at UF.

Umiami is partially private and partially state funded kinda like penn state university in Pennsylvania. So although it is partially funded by the state because it is still technically private the expense wise is going to be much more.

Looking at the tuition for both schools, in-state, they are very close to each other. They both are around 30k for the year. I do not know where you are getting the information that it is much more. If it is coming down to cost, they are about equal, so go with what everyone else has been saying. If the school fits you, then go there.

I wish Miami told you your rank on the alternate list so you know if you still have a shot.

I could swear I read somewhere 46k. Looked it up on USnews just now in the rankings list and it said 38k. But I swear somewhere i read 46k, which is why I had said what I originally posted. If what you are saying is true then i stand corrected.

38k is for non-residents...from UF and UM's official websites...

UF in state tuition/fees for 2009-2010: $28,697
UM in state tuition/fees for 2010-2011: $30,113

For those of you that have been accepted, we have to apply for the UMiami scholarships right? If so, where do we find the information?

They will just send it in the mail if you qualify... not need to fill anything out

About how long did it take for you guys to receive your acceptance packet after you got the telephone call?

Like others have mentioned, maybe your interviewer has been busy and submitted his/her evaluation after the committee met.

No reason to sweat yet.

i interviewed on the same day, too. i called them up and asked them about my app status, and they said my file wasn't reviewed yet, and would be on january 26 instead. so that's most likely your case, too

Also they don't call everyone on the day they meet. Some people get notified a few days later.
