I'm interviewing for the MD/MPH on Nov 17th.

Has anyone gone through this process yet? What did you think of the new combined program? Also, interviewing does not necessarily bind you to the dual degree program does it??

Good Luck everyone!

all i know is that once you get into the md/mph program, you cannot get out of it at any point during medical school to pursue the md program alone. it was my impression that you had to reapply to the md program. but i'd refer to the website just in case.

good luck with your interview! i'll be doing the same interview 2-3 weeks after you.

I am still waiting on my package as well. I sent an email though saying that I wanted to accept/hold my spot in the class. I am assuming that as long as they received that you are good for now.

let me know when you get yours ! 🙂

Just thought I'd let you know...I called the office of admissions today, and they said the letters just got sent out on Wednesday, so nothing has been lost in the mail just yet. 🙂

I got the official letter saying I was accepted. Haven't recieved the package though.

got the letter too... for some reason it went to my home address and not my preferred school address

Just got the letter too. The package probably comes after you've accepted.

I have my interview Monday and I'm trying to prepare...

How are the interviews structured? Is it one-on-one? 1 hour? 2 30 minute interviews? I can't find this anywhere.

Also, does anyone know the stats on how many people get accepted that interview here?

Thanks

Interviews are one on one for an hour or so. You are scheduled at 10 am, 11 am or 1 pm.

I don't exactly remember the numbers, but the acceptance rate for interviewees is (or has been) slightly above 70%.

Congrats to the people who have been accepted so far. If you were accepted could you please list your stats and if you are IS or OOS. I'm trying to get an idea of who gets accepted this early in the process. Thanks!

Does anyone know when the next round of admit calls will be made?

I recently interviewed and they told us that we should expect to hear back on Nov. 11th, probably. So the calls will probably come tomorrow.

3.8 , 34 , is

Wow..... 3.8, 34, in state as well

This is kind of weird

I got two calls about an hour ago... missed them both. Were these acceptance calls? Is there any way to know? I called them back and they don't pick up. Makes me antsy haha.

Got the call today between 5:30 and 6:00! MD/MPH

3.7, 34 OOS

So excited!

IS, 3.92, 34Q MCATRe-applicant from last year
Interviewed 11/1 accepted 11/10!

I think at this point all future premeds should understand that they must score a 34 for UM. If you score a single point higher or a single point lower, they will not pick you

Just talked to Dean Weissman- Accepted into the MD/MPH program! Interviewed 10/18. 37R 3.6 OOS.

Super excited about this program! 👍

I felt obligated to post because there hasn't been any sub-30 MCAT love here

3.8/3.7, 29Q =(, IS

Accepted for MD/MPH

does anyone know how many people they interview for the md/mph program, and how many they accept? my interview is not until december and i feel as though my chances of getting accepted are getting smaller as more people interview and get accepted. :/

and for those who've been accepted --- any advice for the md/mph interview?

I think they said they had 48 spots for the MD/MPH program, so you should be alright

Just know why you want to get an MPH and how it can help you in the future. Try to have some sort of goal in mind that you can achieve with the mph. gluck

If you are interviewing for MD/MPH are their 2 separate interviews on the same day?

First, congratulations to everyone accepted already. Second, I have a couple questions for you guys. It seems strangely that you all have 34 mcats and around a 3.8 GPA. Have you all been also been involved with consistent research and or have you great extracurriculars? I would love to interview at UM, and I'm wondering whether I'm precluded for something I don't know about. My statistics are in keeping with the trend of accepted applicants from this thread so far, and I don't know if I should send an update, or a pre-interview letter of interest or just fly to Miami and send an in-the-area email even though I'll only be in the area for the potential interview...Anyway, again, congratulations, and any advice is appreciated!

My extracurricular stuff wasn't all that strong. I had at most 50 hours volunteering,100 hours shadowing, and 1 month of research. By SDN standards I shouldn't have even bothered applying...:scared:

I just applied early and I do think my interview went very well so take that for what its worth.

I'm sure you and everyone else here has way more than me so just make sure to stay comfortable and do your best in the interview. At least that is my advice.

nope, 1 interview over the 2 days. Some people get interviewed in Miami, some in Palm Beach

If you are interviewing for MD/MPH are their 2 separate interviews on the same day?

I completed my application in July. I have around 50 hours of shadowing and 100 hours of volunteer time...zero research experience...lots of life experience....military. I think the life experience is what really set me apart, and made the interview a lot easier.

Just from my experience last year, I would say early December would be a good time to send an update letter/letter of interest. The semester is coming to an end, and hopefully, you have something to update the school on. Plus, you can reiterate your continued interest in the school and your hope for an interview.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you guys know that I canceled my 11/29 UM interview yesterday because I got accepted at one of my top choice schools. Hopefully they will contact one of you to fill my spot! I have a 30 MCAT and 3.7 overall/3.45 science GPA so those of you without 34s have a shot! Good luck!

Does this school do student hosting? And what do you guys think about flying into Ft. Lauderdale instead of MIA....big diff?

For what it's worth, I submitted my secondary in October-ish, and I didn't get an interview invitation until February. So, it's possible that you may here from them quickly, or it may take until next semester.

You definitely still have a chance. As they say, it ain't over 'til it's over.

does anyone know if there is a second look weekend?

Hello Fellow Applicants:
Has anyone been invited to and attended a U.M. school of medicine interview yet?
If so, please provide details and insights as to how it took place.
Thank you.

Congrats Andresgo! - Does that mean that you're still accepted to the school of medicine? Could you inform me as to why they would not accept you to the MD program but would accept you to the MD/MPH program? I am applying to the MD program only and was wondering if I made a mistake not applying to both since I have an interest on MPH but wasn't sure if I should pursue it in combination with medical school.

I guess maybe they deemed me a better fit for the MD/MPH, or came off as a more attractive applicant because of my public health experience...

If you decide to do the MD/MPH it doesn't really increase your chances. They said they're looking at a different applicant pool for that program, so I guess I fit it. Make sure you know why you want an MPH. I don't think getting an MPH would be much of a problem along with getting the MD. I feel as if you'll be doing so much work in med school that you won't notice the difference of a few more credits. Good luck!

Does Uni of Miami not honor the fee waiver from AMCAS? It is asking me to pay the $75 :/ . Anyone know?

Yes, I just e-mailed them this week and they confirmed that they would honor the waiver for their secondary as well. Good luck!

Yeah I was waitlisted for MD, accepted for MD/MPH

Wow this is eye opening for me! In that case I really regret not applying to the MD/MPH program since I do have an interest in MPH but didn't know if I should get a degree in it. Do you think its possible to write to them to consider me for the MD/MPH program instead?

Thanks for the reply man. I don't have experience in public health but do have tons of experience in the managed care industry as an insurance executive for 4 years. Do you think I should write to them and change gears to the MD/MPH program? Is it possible to change my secondary by sending a letter?

Yes you can notify the admissions office via phone or email that you would like to be considered for the MD/MPH track. Anyone can add on the MD/MPH track if you have already submitted your primary anytime between now and February.

OK, I will do so asap. Thanks for the advice!

Miami received my 2nd MCAT score sometime around mid-September...Considering it has been 2 months without word, should I take this as a sign of a silent rejection??

Thanks everyone!

how long does it take for admissions to reply to a status check email? I sent one in wednesday afternoon and have not heard from them yet.
