This is for those who have interviewed, did it take a while before you heard back from the school after you interview about your status as far accepted, rejected, or waitlisted?

haha...well, they say it should take 6-8 weeks but I've heard of it taking 12+ weeks.

I wouldn't count on it being before 8-10 weeks if history repeats itself. Once again, it can take upwards of 15 weeks to hear back, even if you are accepted. Once again, for evidence, go back to (at least) last year's thread, as well as previous posts in this thread.

Does anyone know if they reject people all along or will they hold out till May with the rejection letters?

I got the call last night! Hooray! Interviewed late Sept.

Hey everyone, just received my interview invite (OSS). I recieved my schedule for the interview day and it appears that I am interviewing with two MS4s. Is this the norm? It just seems a little different that what I've hear of/seen at other medical schools.

I talked to a couple other people who have both interviews with MS4's as well. I think the difference is the MS4 you interview with in the morning is a adcom member. The MS4 you'll interview with in the afternoon is representing the student body, not the admissions committee.

Maybe I will get the call too, I was there a week later. Hoping...

Congratulations on the acceptance. Great school! My top choice.

congrats! when was your secondary submitted/ your file complete? thanks.

Got my rejection letter today.

3.6/33, OOS so I kind of expected it.

Sorry 🙁 Was it a letter letter or an email?

Letter. It was thicker than the previous envelopes with 3 pages inside actually. I almost thought I got accepted pre-interview 🙂

Oh geez. Now I am gonna be scared to check my mail too. Or actually it would be a call from my Dad since my mailing address is home not my school apt... That really sucks I hope you have better luck somewhere else 🙂

or not....rejected! My dad called today.

I particularly enjoy how the rejection letter assumes since they didn't want us no one else will either. It's a little bit rude. I am not saying this cycle is going amazing or that I will accepted somewhere else because I don't know at this point but not everyone they reject will have to reapply. Just saying...

Sorry about getting the R guys 🙁 May I ask when you were complete and whether there's been any change to your status page?
Also, better luck elsewhere! :luck:

Yeah, all the correspondence from the U has seemed a bit rude. The secondary invite basically tells you not to bother if your MCAT and/or GPA are in the lower 10%. It's funny because the people in the admissions office are so nice.

Got the rejection envelope in the mail today. Complete late July, OOS 3.9/29Q.

I haven't checked my status page cause I am too lazy to go find my password. I was complete mid-july. IS.

Interview invite today! I was complete in late September

SO excited 😀 This is my first choice school!

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure. I received the secondary on 7 Sep (the longest I had to wait from any school I applied to!). I'm guessing I completed the secondary no later than 18 Sep, but I never received a complete e-mail. Sorry I cannot be of more help!

I'm back from vacation, and I am glad to see all these familiar avatars!

Congratulations to everyone with interview invites or acceptances! Sorry to everyone that got rejected... Keep your heads up, they'll come soon!

Interview invite this afternoon! I was complete sometime in late September/early October.

I interviewed at the U on October 11th. I haven't heard anything yet but Dean White said that we should expect to wait 6-8 weeks. I'm just so anxious - it's my top choice.

I interviewed in late September with the same 6-8 weeks from Dean White. No word yet and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't hear until December given last year's thread and what I have heard.

Don't worry, we are all scrambling for the phone every time we think it is ringing...

This wait is painful indeed. The only thing worse than an extremely long wait time is an extremely long AND ambiguous wait time. I really wish they could be more exact with the timing estimation.

Hey guys, don't give up hope yet! Just got the call from Dean White regarding my acceptance! I interviewed all the way back in September, so the wait was pretty long..about 7 weeks.

Got my rejection envelope today. Complete in early August.

Oh well, I was OOS so not much of surprise.

Good luck to everyone else!

Congrats on your acceptance! Hopefully they'll move fast through the september interviewees and get to the october ones soon! :xf:

Hope is far from given up. Confident, but anxious. Just gotta wait it out. What day did you interview?

Has anyone been accepted to Duluth and going to go there next fall?

I was accepted last Wednesday and am going to take it! Applied the first week of September and interviewed middle of October.

7 weeks is NOT that long for the U. Last year some people were waiting over 12, some cases almost 16 weeks to hear back with acceptances.

It sucks, but don't freak out. They are just incredibly slow.

Well, I guess the wait is over for me too... I was rejected this week pre-interview.

I'm actually pretty confused. After receiving two interview invites last year and making the wait list at the U, I've had more difficult classes with better grades, more leadership and teaching experience, and now more clinical experience, and I was rejected pre-interview from my state school, as well as the other school at which I had an interview and one other, and have had no other interview invites.

I'm not saying I deserve interviews, but I guess I just don't understand what I have to do to get into medical school...

On the first prompt on the secondary, what did you guys take "early life experiences" to mean? Pre-highschool? Pre-college? I feel like it could mean anything 😕 Thanks in advance for any input!

EDIT: Question answered earlier in thread...nevermind.

Sorry to hear about the rejection betheltim. But the medical school application process can be so random that there's not much you can do other than give your best shot and hope for the best. It is sad to know some of the most deserving applicants won't get an interview at all. But this is the game we have to play.

Clark807, what was you interview date in Duluth? I interviewed on the 18th and am still waiting to hear. Did it come in the mail or did they call you?

I interviewed at Duluth on October 15th and was accepted November 3rd. They called me on the phone. The admissions office told me they review applications on Tuesdays and make phone calls on Wednesdays so maybe you'll hear back this Wednesday. Good luck!

Hey everyone...OSS here and was wondering if anyone wanted to make a recommendation on where to stay and how to get around town (best way from the airport to hotel, etc.). It looks like there is a Radisson on campus but they require a 3 night stay. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That sucks Betheltim. I have been feeling for awhile like schools say they are looking for X but then they consistently chose Y. I just don't understand 🙁 But keep faith. We will both get into medical school eventually and I am still pretty convinced it will be together.

There is light rail from the airport to the West Bank of the U of M. The Holiday Inn at 7-corners is about 2 blocks from the west bank and a 10-15 minute walk to Moos tower/med-school across the washington ave bridge (cool walk). You will also be able to walk around downtown Minneapolis from the Holiday Inn. A couple good places to eat there and the neighborhood directly south is very diverse. I work right around there and feel safe.

If you have any other questions, PM me.

I second the Holiday Inn idea. It'll be cheaper than anything downtown. BUT the walk from the Holiday Inn to Moos tower is probably more like 30 min. If you walk from the Holiday Inn to the west bank end of the washington avenue bridge (5-10 min walk) you can catch the free campus connector underneath the bridge on the south side (stairs clearly visible from the plaza between Blegen and Anderson Halls) and ride to the Moos Tower stop, turning a cold 20 minute walk into a warm 5 minute bus ride.

Also, it's a bit of a walk from the light rail stop over to the Holiday Inn, and I wouldn't recommend taking that walk alone at night. A better plan might be to stay in a hotel near the airport, then take the light rail in the morning. You can get off the light rail at the Metrodome, then take bus #16 or 50 from the light rail stop (take the stairs down from the platform, the bus shelter is right there). Both of those buses stop at Moos Tower.

Agreed: the walk is best done at night from the light rail to Holiday Inn. This is a large Somali community, very interesting and diverse!

The walk to Moos could be cold, but better get used to it if you want to live here!

Thanks for the advice. I booked a room at the Holiday Inn. I get in during the day. Care to give more explicit instructions on how to take the light rail to the Holiday Inn? Or where to go to get to my interview in the morning?

Thanks!

Good luck at your interview! I PM'ed you a set of directions that will make your head spin. It's a huge campus! But of course everyone here is Minnesota nice so any random person you stop on the street would be more than willing to give you directions.

Thanks Doc! Any good news yet?

Hey everybody... heard from Dean White last week, and at 6 weeks no less! To boot I received my official acceptance in the mail the other day and I was informed that I also earned the OOS tuition scholarship- which means this 'Sconnie will be saving some serious cash over the upcoming 4 years!

Good luck to all that have applied and have yet to interview and certainly to those eagerly awaiting their phone call. It's truly an impressive place, and this is coming from someone who knew next to nothing about U of M when I applied. Now I'm one of their biggest fans 😉
