hi guys, when are we supposed to send in the $100 deposit again? I remember it was sometime in May
 
DEFINITELY going here. Decided yesterday and it feels amazing knowing where I will be the next 4 years! I truly enjoyed the group of people I met at 2nd look and could see myself being classmates with them for the next 4 years 😍.

See you guys in August! 😀

Hey Guys,

I'm a first year (well until the you guys show up) at Pitt and I'm subletting my 1 bedroom 1 bathroom Style B (larger size) Darragh apartment from June (late May) - August

1. Oakland, Darragh Apartments - less than 3 minutes to Scaife hall
2. 1 bedroom 1 bathroom
3. Fully furnished - bed, 47 inch tv, video game consoles galore etc.
4. 895/month (negotiable) Due the first of the month - includes utilities and internet (provided access to Pitt's internet)
5. Only for the summer. I will be leaving at the end of May so you can move in as early as the 23rd/24th of May. I will be returning August 11th. You do not have to pay for the days you stay in May or August and rent will be prorated.
6. VERY safe area

They actually still haven't gotten back to me - I just found other options.

June 1 you say? Are you MSTP as well?
 
On a related note,

I'm also looking for a roommate for my 2 BR Darragh street apartment. The apartment won't be available until around August 5th, which is the Friday before the white coat ceremony on Sunday the 7th.

The "rental rate" is $1205 between two people, and I understand that this includes rent, utilities, electricity, internet, and cable. The basic information can be found in the links in the post directly above mine.

I'm not a big partier, but occasionally like to get some drinks on the weekend. I'm also relatively clean, and by that I mean that I don't make nasty messes, but I'm not anal about my living space being perfect and organized.

congrats to people getting accepted off the waitlist! does anyone know if there will be any more movement or is today pretty much the big day?

There will be more acceptances, probably in other waves as people who got in off the waitlist decide to go or choose other schools. Say after May 15th, Pitt has 50 spots in the class, so gives 50 acceptances. Of those, 25 eventually stick with Pitt, so they'll offer 25 more, of whom ~13 will go elsewhere so they'll offer 13 more and so on. It gets more complicated also because some of the people who held on to their acceptances at May15th will give them up after getting off the waitlist at another school. In short, more acceptances can roll out up until orientation starts.

i've heard a bunch of schools saying they give out acceptances all the way up until orientation, but do you have any idea if people really do get accepted that late? it wouldn't be horrible for me to move to pittsburgh with short notice since i have family in the area, but if it gets too late in the summer, i wouldn't wanna have to deal with any potential leases i sign at the other school i'm currently accepted at

Getting accepted right before orientation is a very rare occurrence but can happen. It gets tricky around then because schools start at different times and you forfeit all your other wait-list spots once you begin orientation at 1 school. I do know several people that got in around the June time frame though.
 
I know someone who was accepted at another med school the week before classes were to begin, and is now finishing her first year!

+1!!!! I will be attending in the fall. Any recommendation for housing? Looking for a cat-friendly, off-campus apt. How is the parking situation at the SOM building? Is it pretty easy to find parking everyday? Thanks!

The parking situation is not great at the med school. Very few people drive to school, save for the nights (after 6pm) and sundays when the meters are no longer in effect.

The bus system, though, is free for students and pretty decent.

Thank you. Looks like I'll be looking for apts near a bus line! I remember the bus system being pretty good when I visited. 😀
 
tough week.. finally deliberated all the pros and cons and decided to decline my acceptance here.. I loved the school and the people but it turns out Pitt was my 1B instead of my 1A.. I hope one of you who is eagerly waiting gets my spot because I know how agonizing it can be to wait for something like this.. good luck!
 
just withdrew my acceptance here with a real heavy heart. I really loved Pitt...but it's just too expensive for me.

hope my spot goes to one of you waiting that deserves it!
 
Hi I am a former University of Pittsburgh medical student and currently here for residency.

I would like to sell an incoming 1st year or any current students my old books, as well as my otoscope/ophthalmoscope (which I bought new) that you will need for the physical exam course and clinical years. I have pretty much every book you'll need for your 4 years here, as well as tons of review books for the clinical clerkships (Blueprints) and Step 1,2,3 (BRS, High-Yields, flash cards, etc)

I can reserve them for you if you would like. Otherwise I will forward a full list of whatever is leftover once school starts to the current class. Since I'm at Pittsburgh for residency, I can deliver them to you whenever you get a chance to meet.

Please PM me your e-mail for a full list. I will try to sell for a considerable discount, especially if you buy multiple books, since I remember how much it sucked to be a broke student. If you buy a bunch, I'll throw in some free books.

This was confusing for me as well because they never sent a confirmation e-mail before, but it looks like they changed that policy for the summer because I finally got one with my last update letter about a week ago.
 
has anyone heard of any waitlist movement recently? i've sent in a few LOI, but i'm starting to lose hope. it's getting pretty late in the app season 🙁
 
dcj... i was just accepted off of the waitlist on thursday 6/9 (so excited!). like you, i also sent a few updates/loi's. don't lose hope yet!
 
2015,
I am a current pittmed student and am moving across town in July. I'll be selling many of the things one would need for a new apartment - some furniture (shelves, bureau), kitchen supplies (e.g. microwave, flatware), a queen size bed frame, air condition, etc.

PM me if you're interested in any of this stuff. I also probably have a bunch of books if you're interested.

I have a question that you might be able to answer. How did you submit AP credit on the Pitt secondary? If you had credit, did you just list the name of your college that accepted the credit as the college and leave the "Grade" section blank? If you could respond, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
 
I was looking at the M1 calendar to see if I can attend a friend's wedding and saw "Self-Directed Learning." What exactly is SDL? Do you think it's possible to catch a 5PM flight when SDL is scheduled for PM? Thanks!
