I read back a few pages and saw a lot of people asking a) if anyone's gotten in off the waitlist and b) when to send letters, make phone calls, etc.
Here's my story:
I interviewed in early September and absolutely loved the school. I was placed on the Out of State waitlist on October 19. On October 21 (yes, only two days later), I sent them a one page letter of reaffirmed interest as an attachment to an email. They didn't send a confirmation, so on November 5 I called them to show continued interest, and also to make sure they received my letter. On November 8 I was accepted via email!
So if you love UVM and are truly enthusiastic about going there, send them letters, make phone calls, and just make sure they know it. When I called them they told me they made a note in my file that I reaffirmed UVM as my top choice, and they also told me when it would be good to call back. So that is a great question to ask when you call--I phrased it as "I don't want to annoy you guys, but I also want to make sure you know I really want to go here!" That got a chuckle out of the admissions lady, and she was more than willing to tell me when I should call back (the date was earlier in December, probably before a committee meeting).
I hope this is helpful information for anyone stuck on the waitlist! When I interviewed there, the few students I talked to all said they were waitlisted before receiving an acceptance. So here, possibly more than any other school, getting a waitlist is better news than you might think.
Good luck to everyone!
