Just noticed that I must have been small-pooled in the last few days, been complete for 3+ months now. Not sure how many interview spots are left, but I guess it's always good to move on to the next step!

Congrats dougmd!

I'm not sure how many more interview spots there are, but I got an invite 12/13 for an interview on 2/17. Assuming they're interviewing into March or April, I'd say there's definitely a chance you'll get one.

FINALLY a response from UVM! I have been small-pooled. I'll take it. So sick of waiting!

Sorry, I'm going to ask the most frequent SDN question - When were you complete? Stats?

I'd say I was complete sometime around 8/25, but it's hard to say because I never got an email after I turned the secondary in.

Thanks! You're right - it's hard to know when University of Vermont considered an applicant complete. I submitted everything in mid-September and just noticed the small pool update. Good luck to you!

Any news from this school lately? I haven't noticed any invites in a while...

I'd like to know this too, and also add: if anyone has received an invite lately, could you tell us what month/dates were open for interviews?
Thanks!

I have an interview on Feb. 1st and I was wondering if any current students (with NO cats or dogs) would be willing to host me the night before? I went through the "official" student hosting request but haven't been able to get anyone to host me. Please PM me if you are able/willing to.

AutumnChild and DoctorJDO, I believe this is your second interview together🙂

Called the admissions office today, they are having an adcom meeting next week for all those interested. Good luck everyone.:luck:

Any idea what day next week? Not that I'm anxiously waiting or anything.

LOL @ Tomato1, love the enthusiasm. Your gonna get in!!!
I keep seeing signs everywhere. The car in front of me yesterday had Vermont tags on it (I'm in San Diego and have never seen them before here.) Today, when I was driving and inadvertantly looked up, I WAS DRIVING PAST VERMONT STREET!!

COME ON BABY!!!

Good luck everyone! Hang in there. I didn't interview until mid March and I managed to get in. I'm from Cali and was so stoked for the chance to attend this wonderful school. I'd be glad to field questions via PM. The interview is there to help you, not hurt you.

Hi guys. Can anyone recommend a hotel? Or tell me about your experiences with a student host?

I stayed at the Quality Inn in Colchester, and I would definitely recommend it. It was cheap (only 62 a night if you tell them you're coming for an interview at UVM) and only a five minute, 9 dollar cab ride to school or Church Street. Just make sure, if you're planning on taking the cab to the interview, to stress that it is the Quality Inn in Colchester because they left me waiting for about an hour and sent a taxi to the wrong Quality Inn (there is another one in Shellbourne) and I ended up being late. Other than that, I had a great time staying there, and had a great time in Burlington. I would definitely recommend staying as long as possible. I flew into Burlington on a Friday night and didn't have my interview until Tuesday. I rented a car for the weekend (convenient but not necessary, and quite expensive) and just enjoyed the beautiful area. Church street is great and has lots of great places to eat (Three Tomatoes and Sweetwaters were some favorites) and visiting Mt. Philo and the beautiful UVM campus itself made for a very enjoyable stay. It is really a great place to be, and I advise you to make the most out of your trip and really savor the experience.

hi guys, does anyone know if interviewing around this time in late Jan/February is for actual spots in the class or just for waitlist?

well, since pretty much everyone gets waitlisted...

seriously though, there are no waitlist-only interviews here. people get in all the time from March/April interviews and there's always a fair amount of movement in May.

Just withdrew my application. Hopefully my interview spot will go to someone on here. Good luck all

So basically everything should be decided by right now and now we just wait until they gt around to telling us. Another 2 weeks may drive me mad, not to mention the potential of waiting on wait lists. Blah

definetly my top choice, amazing program and faculty. cant wait to find out

hey man. I didn't sign up for one, but they may take some time to get back. Maybe you should call the school?

I know that M2s are taking their boards the second week in February, so that may be part of it too.

For those of you who didnt wake up and immediately check the online applicant center the status has been updated...now we all wait...:soexcited:

thanks for the feedback, will call the school and see whats up

A student named Jarod is the guy in charge of the student hosting, and you can reach him via the email address [email protected]. Back in November when I tried getting a host, I remember it took a while for him to answer, and a general message basically said that because of high volume, they answer in order as your interview date/hosting desired date nears. So if you email a month in advance, you probably won't get a response. That's what I did, and it wasn't until I emailed again about a week before telling him that I would need an answer asap because I would have to book a hotel if they couldn't find anyone that I got a response. So I think he is good with responding when you email close to your date, but as far as actually finding a host it is a toss up. He couldn't find a host for me because my interview was the week of their big exams before the Thanksgiving break. Good luck, though.

Hey, do you mind sharing what your status changed from/to? I am assuming you just interviewed and it changed from the "Thanks for interviewing..." message. I was waitlisted after the last AdCom meeting, and it still has the waitlist message in the OAC - no change for me 😎. Has anyone been pulled off the waitlist yet?

I just checked my status, and I've been small pooled today.

No idea what the chances of actually getting an invite are this late in the game.

How do you know if you have been "small pooled" versus some other sort of pool? My status says this:

Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months.

This is the small pool. Not sure why it's called "small" though because I've never heard it officially called the "small pool" and I've no reason to believe it's actually small...

but...

congrats on making progress!

I think it's "small pool" because it's smaller than the pool of applicants as a whole. So it should really be the "smaller pool than the pool that contains all applicants", but that just sounds ridiculous haha.

Ok. I was just confused because I've been at that status for months.

I e-mailed and didn't hear back from anyone. Jarod said that they weren't able to find someone for me so I just booked a hotel. Haven't had my interview yet, it's next week! :xf:

yeah that's normal 🙂

Hi Tom, noticed you on another thread. Have you been invited to interview at UVM?

This school is in an amazing location and the program seems outstanding as well. What should I do at this point to get out of the pool? LOI, updates? Any success story with regards to that strategy so far?

No invite yet. Still hoping for one. I sent one or two updates and I plan on giving them a call and/or sending another letter this week.

People have been saying that if you keep sending updates and/or calling them, you're more likely to get out of the pool.

hello fellow applicants,

i have an interview at UVM that i am totally excited for on feb. 10th! 😀 i was wondering if there were any current students who would be willing to host a poor applicant? i would just be staying the night of feb. 9th and 10th...

or if there were any male applicants around who would want to split the cost of a hotel room for any of those nights, PM me!

thanks

Hey guys
Just have a quick question.

My online status recently has changed to indicate that I have been "pooled".

Now I know this just means that I am being considered for an interview, but I was curious if anyone knows or could hazard a guess of approximately what percent of those "pooled" end up being invited for an interview.

Obviously I am not looking for an exaxt number, I am just wondering it only a small percent (10-20%) of those pooled are invited or if the majority (70-80%) are invited, or if it's closer to 50%. Anyone know?

No changes for me. Welcome my friend. Let your time here be short and painless.

Haha yes I admit it was a bit crazy for me to check at 10pm on a Sunday night but I'm glad I did! Good thing about having a smartphone: ability to check on my status at any time of the day. Bad thing about having a smartphone: ability to check on my status at any time of the day

Do you guys know if everyone from out-of-state gets waitlisted? Or have post interview rejections been sent out? Just curious at the size of our pool...

Haha no, not crazy at all...I check my status (and this forum) alllllllllllll the time on my phone. What I was wondering is if the status change actually came Sunday night - now that would be crazy.

I have heard that some people are rejected post-interview, but very few. Some have actually posted on the thread about their rejections. However, the majority gets waitlisted, which makes sense. They tell us that they want us there, and I believe them. They interview a lot of people, but I truly believe that every single one is genuinely considered for admission. Most interviews don't go very badly, especially at this school, where the interviews are pretty laid back and conversational. So, why reject an applicant if you might have room for him/her later? I mean, we are a pretty great bunch, I'm sure that they want to accept all of us 🙂.
