Haha, how is by the end of March any better than no later than first week of April? This process is really teaching me patience. Thanks for calling to ask, btw. How many people do you think are still under consideration? I really don't know what to think of my chances at this point. Good luck to us all. I also vote for 24th, cause that's my dad's bday...it'd be a good present for him and me

MT-WWAMI REJECTION~ im bound for UVM 🙂 relieved to have the answers now!

Okay, so I feel stupid... after reading a post that mentioned that the WWAMI people should hear the day after their last interview, I thought I'd check my spam. Sure enough... there was a rejection sent on Feb 28th. It's kind of a kick in the trash, but more so to be sitting around wondering why I haven't heard anything for two weeks. I had recieved all the other SOMAS emails, so I have no idea why this one went to spam. Moral of the story: check your spam box... Good luck to everyone!

That's too bad to hear. I imagine that must have been an awful way to find out. At least I see you have been accepted to multiple great medical schools. I interviewed at Case Western myself and I loved their curriculum, hospitals, and what seemed like twenty different (more like four or five) student lounges/ study areas. Good luck at wherever you end up.

Haha I know it seems like a minor difference, but I have an interview at another school next month, and if I can hold off on buying my tickets until I hear back from UW I'll probably do that. One week really gives me a little more wiggle room. It'd be really hard to turn down UW for another school, so I'm not sure I would bother going to the other interview if I'm lucky enough to be accepted.

Sorry to hear of the recent rejections. As for me, good or bad news, I just want to know now so I can plan my next steps, either look for apts in Seattle or revisit other schools and make a decision. This feels even worse than waiting for my MCAT score

^I completely agree. Not knowing is almost worse than potential bad news. I need to figure out my life.

Hopefully we'll be getting glorious news in the next few weeks though 🙂

Hey everyone! As the final meeting ominously looms I am pondering sending in a letter of intent. Does anyone know how Admissions feels about such communication? I have looked through the interviewee materials, UW's website and SDN and haven't found much.

The waiting sucks but we made it this far. YES!

My impression is that a "letter of intent" does not get you too far, i.e. of course you want to go to UWSOM! An update letter, on the other hand, that informs the admissions committee of new experiences or achievements that are relevant to your desire and qualifications for a field in medicine can be helpful.

Thanks Kalyx. I had a similar impression as well considering how well-regarded Washington is. Good thing I sent that update in a few weeks ago.

Hi everyone,

I did not apply to UW (although I love the school!!! I used to have family in Seattle and I've visited the school) since I'm OOS. But I just read a book called:

"What Patients Taught Me: A Medical Student's Journey" by Audrey Young, MD

A PCP writes about her experiences as a UW medical student. She writes about her rotations in remote places all over WAMI and her experience in Africa. It's a great read and I recommend it for anyone interested in rural medicine and/or primary care.

I'll eagerly second that! I read this book at Christmas time and it's great, especially for anyone aspiring to go to UW.

long time lurker first time poster:

I interviewed October 12th (the second day of interviews) and was UC'd. This has been a long wait... GL everyone.

I'll bet we will start hearing next Tuesday-last years applicants started hearing the last Tuesday of March.

I interviewed that day too! Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you 🙂

I just wanted to throw it out there that I'm a native Seattleite and would be happy to answer anyone's questions on the city, cultural life, weather, etc.

Good luck to all those who are waiting to hear back! :luck:

Congrats on the acceptance (so jealous)! Who was your excom?

My excom was Dr. Scott. I just got the call in February, so I can appreciate how awful it is to have to wait since October!! Who did you have for your excom?

^Dr. Acosta. Nice guy, very non-confrontational interview. It makes it hard to judge how I was being perceived during the interview when it was so conversational.

Monday funday!

I think this is going to be a big week... good luck everyone :xf:

^+1

Hopefully this year follows the same schedule as last year and we all know something by the end of the week!

Had my friend call and was told we'd hear by the end of March but the admissions person "doesn't know" the exact date. uh huh, sure

I don't get why schools aren't more transparent with the process. I don't see the harm in telling us when the final meetings are and approximately when we might hear back. I realize they might get stormed with calls if they get behind schedule, but I'm sure they already get enough calls of people freaking out from not knowing anything at all.

Thanks for having your friend call, though!

I'll second the thanks! It does seem a tiny bit sadistic that they don't just tell us at this point when they'll be releasing the last round of decisions...

Any more bets on the day decisions will be released?

I agree. But UW has the most transparent process I know of, and I am very thankful for that. And they've narrowed the decision timeframe down to two weeks, which isn't SOOO bad.

In the scheme of things, it's not the worst, but still a bit hard to bear!

Definitely cannot concentrate at work today....might not be able to for a while!

I alerted my friends that I'm hoping for an important call this week (pray we don't have to wait until next week). They know to text me instead of calling, haha

That's very wise. 2 weekends ago I signed up to give to the save the children campaign by a volunteer in Seattle. I got a call from a Seattle area code last weekend so they could confirm my info, which of course caused me to have a slight heart attack until the girl on the phone said where she was calling from :/

I hear you. Luckily, I'm super busy at work so I didn't have that problem. Coming home, I went for a run, made dinner, and read a book to keep my mind off things. Now that I'm trying to sleep I have nothing to distract myself with... so here I am on SDN hahaha

Agreed... very wise

Similar thing happened this morning... my doctor called me, and their first language isn't English so when they said it was "Doctor so-and-so" it still took me a while to process who was calling and why.

In other news, I'm apparently in good health. So I've got that going for me... which is nice.

My way of keeping my mind off things is to assume that it's bad news, and hence want to avoid hearing about it for as long as possible. That works pretty well to not make me anxious.

From what I understand from people close to the administration final meetings are going on for the excom members this week.

Is there a way to check your status online though? I'm on a Mac and when I check it seems to always put me in some sort of loop....

Wow! I'm at a loss for words. Dr. Scott called me at 10:38 a.m. I interviewed on 3/1/11.

Now I'm officially not going to get anything done at work today....

Esteban, were you ever UCed? If not I think us UCers can breathe (for now) as the final meetings are still occurring and we might hear back in a couple days.

I don't think there will be any breathing for me....😉

What exactly does "UCed" mean? I've been looking through the whole thread and can't seem to figure it out 🙂

what the? 10 members and 7 guests. Haha, no one is being productive today

Pretty much.

Stingray. It means that you got put on the status of "still under consideration" which meant that the EXCOM hadn't made a decision either way yet.

Now I'm officially not going to get anything done at work today....

Currently assuming the "knees-in-hands and crying" position from all the stress-one of my coworks said I should get off the lab floor!

Ridiculous!!!!

I feel the same way! One of my coworkers suggested I take the day off (probably because I'm driving her crazy...). She jokingly suggested taking a "mental health" day. For now, I'll stick it out and expect that I won't hear anything for at least another day.

At this point, I would feel fortunate to be placed on the WL, with a decent rank. I've given hope on outright acceptance a while ago. 🙁

Think positive! Look how far you've made it in this process:

-passed primary screen, offered secondary
-invited to interview
-"passed" the interview stage (not rejected outright) and are in the UC pool

I think any of us who have made it this far are likely to get in next year, worst case scenario.
