i know the completion e-mail said most WWAMI applicants won't hear regarding interviews until dec/jan. i'm an idaho applicant. any word?
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm just glad that I'm not the only one waiting for news 🙂. From the complete email it seems like our regional interview will be at the beginning of January, so I'm getting a little bit anxious. Hopefully we'll be hearing something soon. Best of luck to you!

Interview invite today! Alaska WWAMI. Interview dates are 2/28- 3/3 and are in Anchorage

I think it's interesting how one "graduates" from waiting for a secondary, then an interview, and then a decision. UW really likes to keep us on our toes!!

Interview invite yesterday!! (OOR) 😀 No date yet though, they're trying to figure out the 2011 schedule.

congrats to everyone getting interviews! When were you complete?

Hey everybody...

I am new here, looking for some help...🙂. My stats: GPA: 3.88; MCAT: 9VR, 10PS, 11BS, (30L). English isn't my native language (L). I received an email that my secondary application was complete on 10/25, and was told that the review will take a month to six weeks. However, it has been 6.5 weeks already and I haven't heard anything from them. I am worried that my email spammed their interview/rejection notification. What do you think, should I call them and ask about the status?

Thanks!

You can definitely call and ask, they're very helpful and they would be able to tell you if you got an invite/rejected. However, I don't think invites have gone out to WA residents in a while (it seems like the latest invites have been for WAMI residents), so they will hopefully be sending out a batch soon :xf:

Thanks Dookie2010!

I will probably wait till 4pm today and if I do not get an email, I'll call them...

I just called them and spoke with an admissions counselor, and apparently they are planning on offering me an interview but the interview schedule isn't ready, and that's why they haven't notified me yet!

This is great news, I'm so excited I don't know what to do lol 🙂

that's wonderful Ivan, congrats! Now I want to call and find out too lol. But I guess I'll just wait and hope that I'm also on that "getting an interview" list. It's good to know that they just don't have the schedule yet, but it sure would be lovely if they'd let us know soon. I bet we're not the only ones going nuts waiting

I am sure there are a lot of people in our position lol. When did you get an email that your secondary application was complete, if you don't mind me asking? Mine was 10/25. But you know, when you think about it, their silence can only mean a good thing - at least you know that you haven't been rejected. I think they would send a rejection notice immediately after the decision is made. The only reason they don't send an immediate notification about an interview is because of the schedule.... I think... lol

Haha, sure hope so! I was complete 11/3

Thats right after mine, the notification should come any moment now...

sure hope so! can you please post when you get your invite since you're for sure getting one? would like to know if I don't end up getting one so I can possibly call and talk to someone.

Yeah, definitely, I will let you know when I get it... If they don't change their minds about inviting me lol.

Anyone hear back about their interview recently?

*anxious*

Anxious as well... I wonder if they are making calls this Thurs or next Thurs.

I got accepted into my #2 school this past Friday so I'm a bit more at ease... but it would sure be great to hear good news from UW.

Hey I'm an OOS applicant that was complete 9/13, got my secondary 12/6, turned it in today to begin the waiting game for interviews.... does anybody know if an OOS applicant can choose a site other than Seattle? (I live in Spokane)......?????

if you get accepted you can choose to do your first year at a site other than seattle... spokane or pullman. you rank the sites on the secondary, did you do that already? based on what I've heard current students say, if you rank spokane as #1 you're almost sure to get it, because the majority of applicants want the seattle site.

if you're asking about interviews though, the FAQ says they do interviews for WA residents and OOS applicants in Washington, and the two interview sites in Washington are Seattle and Spokane. So there's a good chance you can interview in Spokane as well. If you didn't indicate that on your app somewhere, it might be helpful to send them an email explaining your situation to avoid them assigning your interview to Seattle and then having to change it.

Just curious, if you like in Spokane, why are you OOS? School? Good luck! :luck:

I did not receive the option to list my site preferences because I had to apply OOS.. so on the secondary site preference link it wouldn't let me open it....I have lived in Spokane for 8 years, but I don't qualify as a resident... one's parents must be from WA or you must have worked 40(+) hours for at least 2 years prior to application... I just finished my masters in 2009 and have not been able to find a full time job....so while i vote in WA, OWN a home in WA and VOTE in WA, and WANT to live in Spokane, I do not qualify for WWAMI 🙁

wow, I didn't realize residency was so stringent! that must be so frustrating, I'm sorry 🙁 But congrats on getting a secondary, that's a feat on its own! From what I've heard once OOSers do get that secondary, it's all about the applicant and not the residency, so hopefully you'll get some good news...I'm still waiting on some good news re: interviewing as well :xf:for both of us!

Residency is a beast, true fact. and THANKS! Ya, I was at work when I got the secondary invite last Monday and I jumped up and started doing a little victory dance... then my boss came to see the commotion, but everyone wants me to stay in Spokane so they let the little outburst slide 😀 HOPEFULLY we'll both hear ASAP that we're getting interviews.... do you know how far out they have booked dates as of now?

I don't think it's very clear, but someone earlier in the thread (OOS) said s/he got an invite a week or two ago but without a date b/c the email said they were putting together the 2011 schedule. IvanBiley (in state), the guy a few posts ago said he called and got it confirmed that he was getting an interview, but the person he spoke to said they hadn't sent out an email b/c they hadn't gotten the schedule together yet. So I think that interviews for 2010 are filled/over and they're putting together the 2011 schedule, so the next round of invites should be for interviews in January? That's just speculation on my part though based on what people in this thread have said, but I am considering calling in the next couple days to feed my neuroses, and if I get any other info I'll post it.🙂 I'm just trying to wait for now though, don't want to annoy the admissions staff as I'm sure they're busy enough right now..

Here's is the e-mail I got last week with the interview invite. Hope it helps.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM). I am writing to update you on your UWSOM application status as well as to inform you that your application has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions for UWSOM. Your application has passed through this screening and the Committee on Admissions would like to invite you to interview.

Congratulations on your upcoming interview! At this point, we are working to solidify the 2011 schedule and our office will send you another e-mail with your exact interview date. We look forward to meeting you on your interview day.

Hey Dookie2010,

I just wanted to let you know that I got the interview invitation email like ten hours ago. Did you hear anything from them yet? My interview is Dec 29th, at 3pm. 🙂 Maaaaaaaaan I'm excited!!!! lol. But its pretty soon, exactly two weeks from now, so I'm kinda freaking out too lol.

Ivan

That's crazy. I hope you at least tried to contact the residency classification office. Things are a bit easier if you are applying to med school (versus any of the other UW colleges). You only need to live here 6 months, and if you haven't been in school for those 6 months then you probably would have qualified (assuming you didn't have any out of state income during that time). I guess that's no use now though 🙁

I'm a new WA resident and had to go through this whole process so if anyone has specific questions about residency PM me. I guess that would be more useful to people applying next round though...

I got an interview invite a few days ago. Complete 10/28. IS, TRUST applicant. I guess my interview is in Spokane sometime during the week of Jan. 31. It's a little inconvenient since I go to UW right now and live in Seattle, but I'll definitely take it 😀

Called them today, the super nice lady on the phone told me i am invited for an interivew, but they still haven't solidified the 2011 schedule so they will email me with a date when that's decided. SOOOOO EXCITEDDD about this schoool! This is by far my dream school ! I'm OOS btw, does anyone know how many OOS are invited versus accepted?
Congratulations to everyone who's been accepted!

congrats Ivan! and good luck on the interview, hopefully a sooner interview means a sooner admissions decision! I haven't heard anything yet, but I was done a week after you so I'm hoping they're going in order and I'll hear sometime next week.

Anyone hear anything about acceptances recently? I interviewed on Nov. 19th and still haven't heard anything.

I have a feeling that next batch of acceptance is next Thursday. Excom only meet about once a month this early in the cycle.

^I hope you're right! 🙂 Hopefully they don't put it off because of Christmas.

I just tried calling the admissions office to make sure they had all of my application materials, but I only received their voicemail. I tried a couple of times today, so I ended up leaving a message. For those that have called the office before, was this your experience as well?

still under consideration email this morning :/ I hope that turns into an acceptance....

I had my e-mail opened and out of the blue, I got an e-mail from UWSOM. It scared the CRAP out of me, as I know they do acceptances by phone so an e-mail COULD mean a rejection. Luckily it was a "still under consideration" e-mail. Well... a bit disappointed but it could be a lot worse.

Does anyone know whether these "under consideration" e-mail are automated or does it mean they had JUST reviewed your file and you've been passed up on (again...)?

Just got the "still under consideration" email as well. Looks like we have almost a 50% chance of acceptance at this point. Hopefully this will turn into an acceptance for all of us.

From what I read on their website this means that they have not made up there mind whether or not you should be accepted or rejected, or simply that your EXCOM member did not attend that meeting.

From the UWSOM site:

"At these meetings some applicants are accepted, some are placed "under consideration", and some are rejected. Applicants may be placed under consideration because the Executive Committee member representing them was not able to make a particular meeting, or because the committee wanted to see additional applications before making a final decision. Those applicants placed under consideration may be discussed at a subsequent meeting or may remain under consideration until the final EXCOM meetings in March."

Being "under consideration" is not the same as being on the alternate list. Acceptances or rejections can occur at any time for the "under consideration" group up until the final Executive Committee meeting for the applicant's state."

If more than one of us are getting it at the same time, I'm more inclined to believe it's automated. Either that or mine and yours were reviewed one after the other.

I got mine at 1:17 PM (Eastern Time), in case you want to test the theory.

haha I got mine at 10:17 am (Pacific Time)

My theory is that this is there way of putting off final decisions until after the holidays. I would imagine only VERY strong applicants will get acceptances this week, if any are given at all.

Hi guys, as an OOS who received an interview invite, what do you think my chances are of getting in? I know they barely take any out of staters, so is getting an interview invite a huge deal, or do they invite a decent number of OOS for an interview, and the big hurdle of who gets in is after that?
Anyone have the numbers by any chance of OOS invites vs. accepted?
Thank youuu!! This is my absolute dream school, i still cant believe i got an invite!

Just got the under consideration e-mail at 10:17 PST.
Kinda sucks since I'm in-state, but I can deal with it since I have an acceptance.
