i have a question about the alternate list survey. will they look down on you if you had not been accepted elsewhere?
I don't think so, but either way it's best to tell the truth. The way i see it is this, if you haven't been accepted anywhere else they may either think hmm...i wonder why? or they'll give you more of a chance if you're tied with someone. If you have been accepted else they may say, well this person's got a place to go and not be too concerned with you or they may think this person is quite a desirable candidate then. There are pros and cons to both so just be truthful and not try to analyze it too much.

I think it'll be to your advantage. Not to boast or anything, but I feel I was waitlisted because in the interview I was asked if I had been accepted elsewhere and I was honest and said yes...they probably doubted my interest in VCU. The invitation to second look was more proof to me that that was the case. So, just be honest and if they put you on the waitlist is because you've got what they want. So if they have to decide between someone who's been accepted elsewhere already, they most likely will pick you! I hope you get in! 🙂
Just withdrew!to all!

Let's beat the seminoles and advance to the elite 8!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's definitely best to tell the truth because after March 15, schools can see where you have been accepted. as always, honesty is the best policy.
What is your source for this information?
Why would they bother to ask whether you have been accepted elsewhere if they are not using this information for some purpose? The question is, what purpose?

The AAMC shares acceptance information across schools in order to assist medical schools adhere to AAMC recommendations. These data are shared as follows:
a) Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if applicable.
b) Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by the medical school.
Mbeas, you're right but the date is incorrect.

I have some confusion about the May 15th deadline. So on May 15th people with multiple acceptances have to give up the acceptances right? How about if I want to go to VCU but right now I am on the waitlist and I have been accepted to one other school? Would I have to give up the other acceptance if I am still interested in VCU?
I heard that if VCU wins it all, they're accepting everyone off the waitlist 🙂
Thank you @Orangeand Maroon and @Mbeas for the clarification. I didn't know about that policy. I also agree, honesty is the best policy. I have a hard time believing that a medical school would be more sympathetic to a student without an acceptances vs. a student with one already --seems like they should be treated the same. If someone has an acceptance already but isn't seriously considering the school, they would just withdraw. But like I said before, they must ask for a reason! Good luck to everyone![]()
when are final decisions released?
I don't see how this concept is hard to understand. When someone is not holding any other acceptances, it would make them much more likely (and interested) to attend as compared to someone who is holding at least one acceptance elsewhere. VCU, just as any other medical school probably wants to carefully hand acceptances to people that would most likely attend. Of course there are exceptions (for example the one mentioned slightly above about conditional/unconditional acceptance) but we should remember that holding an acceptance to any US MD school means a lot. A lot of people will never have the luxury to choose where they go, while others will be swimming in choices. The difference between having an acceptance and not is huge; if anything we should support people without a single acceptance having a "higher" chance than someone who does.I agree with the bolded. I think it is complete speculation that someone would have a better (or worse) shot at getting in because they haven't been accepted anywhere. But, as you also mentioned, they must do it for some reason.
^^EXACTLY^^ they are playing the game of filling their class and want high probability candidates. Which brings me to my other point of people who are whining about not getting fair treatment for already having an acceptance. You got in. Congrats, move on and be grateful you don't have to re-apply...again.I don't see how this concept is hard to understand. I was just stating what I believe is a pragmatic sense of why they would care to ask such a question. Personally, I support giving people without any acceptances a slight advantage over people that do for the reasons stated in my last post.I understand this, but unless you are on the adcom at VCU, I think you are just speculating. I don't want to give false hope to those who haven't received an acceptance, and I don't think you should either based on your assumptions.
You are wrongfully making people who haven't received an acceptance overly optimistic and even more neurotic.

I did mean to promote an optimistic and positive attitude, especially to the group who needs it most at this point in the cycle, but if anyone were to become (more) neurotic due to my view on this situation, that's unfortunate, but frankly, not my problem.
It is that simple. It is going to be a hard time, families will move, you will be apart from loved ones. Thats what you are signing up for. Sorry that it is not the ideal situation, to get to choose from multiple opportunities to become a doctor. Some would be happy to get in anywhere and have to rearrange everything to do it.It's not that simple buddy. What about families? What about spouses?
