yeap, me too. does anyone get straight out rejected at this point of the cycle?

alternative list... withdrew app

good Luck all

I read in last year's thread that we can call/email and while they will not disclose our priorities scores, we can find out how good are chances are. Hopefully the same holds true this year.

Alternate list for me as well...commence waiting game part 2
Hoping for an acceptance update in a few weeks/months

i have a question about the alternate list survey. will they look down on you if you had not been accepted elsewhere?

I don't think so, but either way it's best to tell the truth. The way i see it is this, if you haven't been accepted anywhere else they may either think hmm...i wonder why? or they'll give you more of a chance if you're tied with someone. If you have been accepted else they may say, well this person's got a place to go and not be too concerned with you or they may think this person is quite a desirable candidate then. There are pros and cons to both so just be truthful and not try to analyze it too much.

BTW, alternate list for me too. Does everyone waitlisted get the same message?

it's definitely best to tell the truth because after March 15, schools can see where you have been accepted. as always, honesty is the best policy.

I am in the wait-list pool, too. Looks like the first SDN'ers to get accepted off the wait-list last year were on April 27th...

I think it'll be to your advantage. Not to boast or anything, but I feel I was waitlisted because in the interview I was asked if I had been accepted elsewhere and I was honest and said yes...they probably doubted my interest in VCU. The invitation to second look was more proof to me that that was the case. So, just be honest and if they put you on the waitlist is because you've got what they want. So if they have to decide between someone who's been accepted elsewhere already, they most likely will pick you! I hope you get in! 🙂

Just withdrew! :luck: to all!

wait so some people who were put in alternate list also got invitation to second look?

and thank you. i hope so too

i called today but they woudlnt' give me any idea whatsoever how i stand in the alternate list. Anybody with different result?

Also, how many people got put on the alternate list and how many people got in from that list last year? does anyone know? thanks a lot for your help.

Rejected! 38R, 3.6GPA, research, working in clinic (did list punching babies as an activity though...). Does anyone know how willing they are to give feedback, because it looks like I'll have to re-apply next year?

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted, and good luck to all those waitlisted (who aren't just taking spaces 😀)!

I would say to try back again after the April 15th deadline they gave on the status page since that's when everyone has to decided their interest or else get withdrawn by the school. They'll probably have a better idea of the waitlist then.

I'm also curious about the stats of the alternate list, anyone know?

Goooo rrraaaaaaaaaaaaammmsss!!!! Tonight is our night!!!!

Let's beat the seminoles and advance to the elite 8!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is your source for this information?

Why would they bother to ask whether you have been accepted elsewhere if they are not using this information for some purpose? The question is, what purpose?

From previous years' thread, it seems like they are more likely to pull you off the waitlist if you haven't been accepted elsewhere. They do accept people who have multiple acceptances, but it seems like the former occurs more often. But either way, honesty is the best policy because it def won't look too good on you if they find out you lied.

Mbeas, you're right but the date is incorrect.

Page 12 of the 2011 AMCAS Instructions Handbook

The AAMC shares acceptance information across schools in order to assist medical schools adhere to AAMC recommendations. These data are shared as follows:
a) Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if applicable.
b) Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by the medical school.

Here is a question. I applied to USUHS, the military medical school, and they have 2 types of acceptances: Conditional acceptance and Unconditional acceptance. The conditional indicates they accept you as a student on the condition you are medically qualified by the army, navy, AF or Public Health Service. Unconditional acceptance is they offered you a seat and you are medically qualified. I have a conditional acceptance at USUHS for army but i'm not medically qualified yet. So should I click on I have an acceptance at another school or I don't. I think i should click on I don't have an acceptance due to a technicality. However, I'm not sure how USUHS will report it.

Gotcha, thanks for the correction!

@223, i dont know the exact purpose, but it is true that they can see where you have been accepted.

I have some confusion about the May 15th deadline. So on May 15th people with multiple acceptances have to give up the acceptances right? How about if I want to go to VCU but right now I am on the waitlist and I have been accepted to one other school? Would I have to give up the other acceptance if I am still interested in VCU?

u can hold that acceptance and be on as many waitlists as you wish. so if you got in after may 15th from the waitlist, you can withdraw from your other acceptance.

I heard that if VCU wins it all, they're accepting everyone off the waitlist 🙂

Thank you @Orangeand Maroon and @Mbeas for the clarification. I didn't know about that policy. I also agree, honesty is the best policy. I have a hard time believing that a medical school would be more sympathetic to a student without an acceptances vs. a student with one already --seems like they should be treated the same. If someone has an acceptance already but isn't seriously considering the school, they would just withdraw. But like I said before, they must ask for a reason! Good luck to everyone :luck:

I agree with the bolded. I think it is complete speculation that someone would have a better (or worse) shot at getting in because they haven't been accepted anywhere. But, as you also mentioned, they must do it for some reason.

I don't see how this concept is hard to understand. When someone is not holding any other acceptances, it would make them much more likely (and interested) to attend as compared to someone who is holding at least one acceptance elsewhere. VCU, just as any other medical school probably wants to carefully hand acceptances to people that would most likely attend. Of course there are exceptions (for example the one mentioned slightly above about conditional/unconditional acceptance) but we should remember that holding an acceptance to any US MD school means a lot. A lot of people will never have the luxury to choose where they go, while others will be swimming in choices. The difference between having an acceptance and not is huge; if anything we should support people without a single acceptance having a "higher" chance than someone who does.

^^EXACTLY^^ they are playing the game of filling their class and want high probability candidates. Which brings me to my other point of people who are whining about not getting fair treatment for already having an acceptance. You got in. Congrats, move on and be grateful you don't have to re-apply...again.

It's not that simple buddy. What about families? What about spouses?

I understand this, but unless you are on the adcom at VCU, I think you are just speculating. I don't want to give false hope to those who haven't received an acceptance, and I don't think you should either based on your assumptions.

You are wrongfully making people who haven't received an acceptance overly optimistic and even more neurotic.

I was just stating what I believe is a pragmatic sense of why they would care to ask such a question. Personally, I support giving people without any acceptances a slight advantage over people that do for the reasons stated in my last post.

I did mean to promote an optimistic and positive attitude, especially to the group who needs it most at this point in the cycle, but if anyone were to become (more) neurotic due to my view on this situation, that's unfortunate, but frankly, not my problem.

I concur with Scilencer's logical reasoning, but hey, you mad brah? 😀 😀

Did anyone get an invitation to 2nd look week, who is not a URM? If so when?

It is that simple. It is going to be a hard time, families will move, you will be apart from loved ones. Thats what you are signing up for. Sorry that it is not the ideal situation, to get to choose from multiple opportunities to become a doctor. Some would be happy to get in anywhere and have to rearrange everything to do it.

I don't think you get it. Saying that people should just be happy wherever they get in no matter what other circumstances is just stupid. It is not like people are complaining about only getting in to X school and not Top 10 or whatever. I am glad I got accepted and happy I have, but to say I should just be totally content to not have something match with my fiancee is plain bull ****. At this point I am done arguing about this, I do see your point however. Good luck to you.

whoa can we all just chill out. I sense a little tension. Everybody's situation is different and you must respect that.

We could only learn to take, our anger and our hate
Control our mental state, settle down and just set it straight
Maybe we could learn to take, a second to pump the brakes
But we said it, regret it later, and let it escalate
Cuz by then its just too late

Eminem said that and when he tells you to control your anger you have to listen.

Preach it Quiznos. This was starting to get nasty.

I really think whether you have other acceptances does not affect your position on the list as it shouldn't, they have many other factors to base their decisions on
