They just informed me that I wouldn't be getting a secondary invite today (34N, 4.0 gpa) research, volunteering etc. Ha, I think that "N" on my MCAT got me kicked off the list. Any guesses guys?

Just an observation but it seems they are not looking too favorably upon West Coasters. Might you fall into that category? You do have some great stats. I was screened in with an "M" with a lower GPA and MCAT score, so it's not the writing.

I'm not sure if I would be classified as "west coast", but I am definitely from out west, so I'm not sure about that...or maybe I just got lucky. I don't know, but am STOKED for this interview.

Canadian 🙂 I think they've changed their policies and don't accept us anymore. Oh well.

does anyone know how difficult acceptance is for out-of-state? (specifically VA)

According to MSAR their class is about 2/3 OOS, although the acceptance rate is higher for IS than OOS. Also, my pre-health advisor told me to apply to Wake Forest because a good amount of OOS students they take are from neighboring states/universities just because they know the reputation/type of students that come out of those states better? I'm from VA as well.

Oh thanks so much. Do you know of any other out of state schools Virginia students should apply to?

Just received the "complete" email. Submitted July 6th.

Please allow 1-2 weeks for your application to be reviewed...

Yeah I submitted my secondary August 1st and they finally uploaded the letters today. Hopefully an interview invite is coming soon! :xf:

Submitter July 6th? I don't think their application was even out yet was it? I think I got it the first batch and that was July 21st

submitted 8/1, complete email today 8/10, interview invite today!!! no email, just checked my status and it said "Your application is complete. You are invited to call and set up an interview with us at your convenience." first feedback from any school, super excited. 🙂

Congrats! That must feel good. I got the complete today as well, submitted 8/5, really hoping to hear something soon!

just to verify, "practice" from the 2nd question refers to what specific medical practice we intend to work in?

Also perhaps whether you want to go into academic medicine/private practice/administration, etc.

I really don't think the N matters next to your 34. Don't take it too hard. Personally, my GPA sucks compared to yours and I barely have any research. I don't know why WF decided to send me a secondary. It's total crapshoot so try not to take it personally. :luck: with the rest of your school list.

I know there has been a lot of speculation about the secondaries. Does anyone know what percentage do they send secondaries to? Also, of people who get secondaries, what the percentage of interview invites are?

Mine says:

"Your application is complete. Interviews are by invitation from September to March. If you are invited, you will receive a e-mail or phone call to schedule an interview."

Which according to last year's thread:
"Alright everyone, I've got some good news! I emailed Wake Forest about what the status "means", and if it's a post-secondary hold or not. Here's the reply I got:

"What the status means is that you have been placed in an interview pool and may get an invitation for interview. There usually ends up being about 1,000 in the top interview pool with spaces for only 550 to be interviewed. So we send the invitations. That hasn't been done as of yet for the interviews which will begin mid September. Stay tuned, you could possibly hear something soon."

That's more re-assuring than a straight-up hold. So everyone sit tight and hope for good things.
"

I have this status as well - hopefully it's a good sign. Right now I've been waiting at all of my schools - better than a straight-up rejection but still pretty nerve-wracking. Congrats to all with interviews!

kind of off topic, but does anyone know anything about the ski resorts in western NC??? I've pretty much been boarding my whole life so proximity to decent hills is somewhat of an important factor for me...

ok, so it was really off topic, but anyone care to chime in?

Yep, I do! I'm IS to North Carolina. If driving from Winston Salem, the mountains of NC are about a 1.5 hour drive if there is little traffic, and about 2 hours with traffic. My favorite town is Banner Elk (which is kind of the Aspen of NC, on a much smaller scale and with a southern Appalachian twang 😀). There's skiing, shops, restaurants and fun stuff

Beech Mountain has high speed quad lifts, is at about 5,200 ft above sea level. Makes it's own snow in November to open by Thanksgiving. By December, plenty of natural snow is falling and it crescendos in Jan. and February. It closes in March. There is also Sugar Mtn. and Appalachian Ski Resorts but these are more for beginners and have slow lifts, but tons of people go there and love these places.

I am a fairly good skier and am accustomed to skiing out west. I love Snowmass/Aspen the most 😍. Beech Moutain isn't Colordo, but if you live in NC and want to board or ski it's good 👍

hahaha this makes me happy. I'm used to riding in Colorado/Utah, so I was scared that if I got into Wake I would have to go 4 years without boarding. But it looks like things are decent terrain-wise, now I just have to find the time and money to go!

Agreed. If they screened based on numbers alone, I wouldn't have had a chance here (yay for a science GPA <3.2!). I just think that they are looking for a very specific fit and the we premeds will never quite figure out exactly what that is. Sorry, and good luck with the rest of your applications! With a 34 and a 4.0 I'm sure you'll get some love from lots of other schools on your list.

So it looks like the following message means I am on hold (looking at last year's posts):

"Your application is complete. Interviews are by invitation from September to March. If you are invited, you will receive a e-mail or phone call to schedule an interview."

Is this the consensus? My status changed to this on 8/10, submitted my secondary on 8/5. It also looks like people were pulled from this group to interview, but not all of them. I hope I am one of them!

Ya, I had that status when my application was complete (after they downloaded my letters) for a week and a half then got an interview invite!

That is good to hear Marshmallow, there is hope!

Just received my secondary. 3.60s/3.70AO 31Q CA resident.

Sorry to all those who didn't get screened in and had phenomenal GPA and MCAT scores. I don't know how Wake Forest does their screening process; I was absolutely shocked that some of you didn't get screened in and I did with my not-so-stellar score. Maybe they realize that some of you are a shoe-in for a better school and they don't want to give an interview to someone who they know will probably not go to WF? I've heard that some schools do this. Just a guess...

Sorry if this question has been asked but where exactly do you check your status? I tried the secondary link but that just had my secondary submission. Do we just get an e-mail or is there a website to check your status?

it seems that no one can answer these questions.

You can check your status from the original link they sent you (to see if you were getting a secondary or not).

wake forest doesn't seem to concentrate too much on service to the underserved (at least based on their website and MSAR). does anyone know if that's correct?

seems like they focus a lot of research..?

How long does it take normally to hear from Wake Forest? I was verified on 8/5 and still haven't gotten a single email from them.

I was verified 7/20 and first heard from them on 8/3. Don't worry yet.

Oh cool thanks for the help!

I was verified 08/09 and still nothing! Wake is my number 1 choice ... I've spent the last 2 years volunteering/shadowing/doing research and as a full time employee of Wake. The hospital is absolutely amazing.

I'm waiting anxiously and checking my e-mail all the time! Hopefully soon. Good luck to everybody!

I contacted Wake earlier last week (I submitted on 8/8) and I was told that they check the applications once a week to download letters and whatnot. We should receive some type of notification after that is done.

:luck: Good luck everyone!

Did anyone who has NOT applied to Wake get a 'prospective applicant' email?

I'm just curious to see if this was a mass email or specific to certain people, as I might consider the school if it is the latter.

Thanks!

i think it was a mass email... I applied and i receive the email too i think its for minority people lol

just submitted! guess i'm waiting for my status to change to "complete". hope it doesn't take too long since they already have my letters. really hoping for an interview!

Whoever has questions about Wake, I'm happy to answer them. I'm currently a 4th year and love it here.

Good luck!

Does Wake give much in the way of financial aid/grants/scholarships to out of state students?

(I know their private, but wasnt sure if they favored NC people for fin. aid)

hmm i'm still waiting to hear from them about a secondary :xf:

LoR question: are they strict about how many they accept? on their website, it says if you don't have a committee letter to give 2 academic (1 sci/1 non-sci) professors a form. does that mean they only want the two academic letters? or is that the minimum?

thanks!

According to a Princeton Review book I have...

"Approximately one third of AMCAS applicants are sent secondary application materials. About 10 percent of those returning secondary applications are invited to interview."

It also says 7,502 apply of which 6.772 are OOS.
AVG GPA: 3.67
MCAT
Bio:10.5
Physical: 10.4
Verbal: 10.2
Essay: P

If these numbers are correct then the data about applications should also be correct.

Hey guys, what are you writing for that personal statement? Can it be about anything? Maybe about why I want to attend Wake Forest?

Thats what I did and I got an interview.

I just pretended the question was "Why is Wake Forest the ideal school for you?"

After checking my status every day for the last week or so (I had the Sep-March status aka pre-interview "hold"), I finally get an email invite.

I wrote an abridged why Wake where I focused on the unique aspects of their program that appealed to me, and why I think I'd enjoy living there, and more or less eschewed the more typical stuff I usually write in these secondaries.
The way they worded it sounds as if it's almost optional, but I wasn't taking any chances considering I don't have a connection to NC.

that's what i want to do with mine, but i'm having trouble finding info (i said this earlier, but didn't get a response to my post). i've been able to find really specific info re: international opportunities, student groups, classes taken, etc. for other schools but haven't found too much specific info for wake anywhere... can you help point me in the right direction? any specific links you found with detailed info re: the program?

thanks in advance!

To those who recently scheduled interviews when did you get them? I'm hoping for early October.
