Congrats! That's really awesome because I was told 9/7 is the first day for interviews this season and they will be processing EDP applicants first... so your app must be pretty stellar 🙂

EDIT: Almost forgot, when were you complete?

i was complete on 8/4

For question 2, are we suppose to know specifics about health care to answer the questions?

A. You have completed medical school and residency training and are ready to begin your clinical practice. What challenges, problematic issues and “downsides” would you anticipate having to consider and resolve as you establish goals for your practice that are congruent with your personal values and self image?

It seems like we need to have good knowledge about health care?

Complete 8/9, got interview invite in the mail for 9/22. OOS, 3.5 and 30O.

I also received an interview invite and I'm OOS.
Sept. 20th as well

holy smokes invited this morning via snail mail. i am pumped, but dumbfounded- i thought for sure it was a rejection letter.

see some of you on sept 20

To everyone who got interview invites - congrats! Were they all snail mail invites? (I wish schools would all go electronic already..)

Congrats on the interviews! I'm a MS1 here so feel free go ask any questions. I like the school and the clinical experiences we get but I'm not a fan of the environment. It's very competitive here and it gets pretty high school sometimes. I'm not sure if every school is like this but people are definitly not helpful or do they even care to help. Some are very immature and walk and talk like they are already experienced doctors when we've been in school for like 3 weeks. So if u have a laid back personality I don't suggest coming here. But if you are a super gunner and like to think u know everything then this is the place for u! I don't even mean that in a negative. It's purely a difference in personality. But then again after anatomy only 30 people will actually go to class so there is little interaction with your classmates n

For those coming from Cali it's very different here. The people are not what used to especially at ucs!

Besides the gunner attitude here everything else is pretty cool so far.

Anyways just wanted to give u guys some inside scoop and hope to see u around in a few weeks!

Thank you so much for the honest opinion. I will definitely take this into account when/if I interview. It's so nice to hear the perspective of actual students as opposed to the perspective of those slick online guidebooks! 😛

Anyone know what % of interviews are accepted- the website says something like 1000 interviews, 290 matriculants, but I am wondering how many they accept.

A good rule of thumb is that they accept about twice the number of positions in the class. So they'll accept around 580~600, so about 60% chance of acceptance post-interview.

Got an interview Friday by snail mail. I'll be there 9/21!

Was complete 8/11

:woot:

Hey there fellow Cali person whom I'm sure I've met and probably know! I disagree about the competitiveness although I do not like the academic environment too much either. I don't think most people are competitive as in they will sabotage you or will not be willing to help you out if they get something you don't. Nor do I think most people here are the annoying "gotta honors" crowd. That is in spite of the way the system is set up here (one of the worst of any med school in my opinion) in making everything based on a curve and therefore making exams super anal about the details to seperate the overachievers from sane people and also not encouraging people to work as colleagues but rather as competitors.

I really have a problem with the material having a lot of bs information. Not relevant information that you will use as a physician most likely (and if you do, you will most certainly relearn it later) nor that you will ever see in Step 1 but rather fine print bs crap in order to make these test based on a curve and find the people who study 23 hours a day from those that just want to get a solid basic science foundation to do well on the boards and become well prepared for the clinical years.

I do like the environment in that you can be whatever you want here. You can be the super anal type about studying. You can be the kind who really wants early clinical experience or serving the community (many here are that way). You can shadow or do research over the breaks (because you will have no time during the year) or join many many groups. You can stream and never see another person except during lab or you can be super social and know everyone. Most people find there niche and are rather happy I think.

Overall, I'd say our class is very bright, very driven (I hear more so than ever), and very friendly and cool. If you fit that description then you will fit right in here haha 😛

I do agree that people wouldn't sabotage you and try to mess you up, however I have tried to ask people for help and have gotten some pretty rude answers. I have also had many people talk down to me and tell me that I am wrong even when they were completely full of crap. I'm not sure if this is a large part of our class, I think I may have had some bad luck. I also find this to be true of the younger crowd and especially some of the younger males. I've heard some pretty pompous and pretentious things since I've gotten here.

I'm used to competitiveness since I went to a pretty competitive undergrad. I think it might be other things such as how conservative everyone is and I'm just not used to that being from Cali. There are a lot of things I'm trying to get used to. And trust me where i went to undergrad is very very different crowd of people.

I do also agree that the way the tests are set up do not encourage us to be colleagues. Especially with the ranking where we literally are pitted against each other. That kind of sucks!

I've never had a problem fitting in before but at Wayne it's a toss up. Some people are friendly while others literally look at me weird when I try to introduce myself. Over all I would have to say that the students are very different from CA and UC students. I was simply trying to warn the CA folks who are thinking of applying. Obviously if you are from MI you will probably fit in better. CA is definitely more laid back and people are more open minded probably due to the fact that all sorts of people live there.

I'm starting to find some cool people who are willing to help out and share resources. We get our tests back tomorrow so good luck! I probably know you lol....pm me if you want to share your identity!

Congrats to those who have interviews! I hope I see some of you walking around awkwardly in your suits hehehe!

I'll say hi if I do but have fun!

Interview invite for 9/28 (OOS, 27Q, C:3.71, S:3.56). Super excited! 😀

I know this is a lame question guys, but what did you guys set as your margins? I haven't typed up something in awhile. 1 inch on each side? I use openoffice which uses as a standard .8 all around.

Is the invite by email or by snail mail?

I use 1" on each side.

I don't think there is a consensus on this... some people have been getting them via snail mail and some people via e-mail, which I think is weird. Maybe they switched to e-mail really early on? Or maybe it's only in-state applicants who get snail mail? These ideas are just guessing on my part lol.

thanks for the 1".

Anyone else going to be there on the 24th?

It's probably not the in-state thing since I'm OOS and mine came via snail mail. So random. 😛

I interviewed last year and mine came via snail mail. This year, Dawn called me. Anyone else get called by the admissions office?

this thread has been slow lately so i thought id bring it back as i gear up for the interview- has anyone interviewed here yet?

also- does anyone know if OOS students can gain instate tuition after the first year?

I think the first interviews are being held next Friday.

I am interviewing there this coming monday the 20th. I am not sure if this is the first date or not though. I would hope that OOS would be able to get instate after the first year of attendence, if not, that would really hurt my feelings and wallet lol.

Interview Invite for October 5th! Anyone else?

Does anyone know the the percentage of applicants that usually pass the secondary screen here?

I tried searching but I couldn't find anything explicit.

As I understand it (I'm no expert) one cannot establish residency in MI while in school. Therefore, no IS tuition ever if you are not a resident when you start school.

That is correct. No in-state tuition while in school.
