wow feel worse for you then for me. I feel bad when ISers don't get in their own schools esp. when they have history with the school.

I hope you get off the waitlist here cuz you seem like you'd really wanna go here having the history and all.
Yeah 🙁 I had a late application/interview. I was really disappointed today, but I can't give up hope!

Thanks for your kind words though. I appreciate it.

heard back today...alternate list...

Feels_Bad_Man_Frog_RE_Just_awesome_3-s400x388-147042.jpg

praying it somehow moves they show matriculants on their website, any stats for people given acceptances vs interview?

Also, I know I've heard that WSU is about numbers, but does anyone know if they prefer GPA over MCAT or vice versa?

Wayne is definitely NOT about numbers. sure, some people got in with high 30's on their MCAT's (35 or above), but i know quite a few that got in to this year's class with around 28-32 and less than 3.4-3.5 GPA. In fact, their MCAT average is dropping every year, i think last year's class average was somewhere between 29 and 30. so it looks like they're caring less about MCAT scores and more about your actual experiences, personality at the interview, desire to actually become a good physician, etc.

I put mine up already but here it is again 35Q 3.6S 3.7OA 3 years research and 4 hours a week hospice volunteering. If they truly don't care about stats then I guess it doesn't really matter much what I or anyone on the alternate list has but I don't know if that's actually the case. Although I know a kid with a 39 who is also on the list so I guess maybe they really don't care about scores as much.

Any wait listers feel like sharing stats?

This is a bit unsettling

I think a lot of people need to stop worrying about stats. I was like that at first, but I have realized that there is more to someone than just stats. I think it's best to try and not figure out where you are on the final list. Just wait, relax, and stay positive!

anyone know what dates we should be looking out for in terms of updates to the waitlist and how many people they usually take off at a time?

Ok, this is for everyone: absolutely NOTHING is going to happen until AFTER May 16. Right now, they've given enough offers to fill the class.

This is not something to get alarmed about; this happens every year. Naturally, not all those who are offered admission will accept it. When they give up their seat, they go to the waitlist.

From October 21 until May 16, students applying at ALL medical schools can hold on to more than one acceptance. By May 16, however, they must release all acceptances except one (or all of them, if they decide not to matriculate at any medical school).

Thus, as has been the case for many years, after this date (May 16) spaces will naturally open up and then they go to the waitlist.

I wouldn't be sitting by my phone at 12:00 am May 16. Be reasonable. They have to process all of the people declining offers. Waitlist offers will come sometime that week. It can happen at any time during the NORMAL BUSINESS DAY during the NORMAL WEEKDAYS. In other words, don't kill yourself if you haven't received an acceptance at 10:00 pm on a Saturday.

DON'T CALL ASKING "WHERE" YOU ARE. Wayne ranks their waitlist, and they won't tell you anyway. Sending interest letters does little to nothing; the committee has already met and the decision to give you a spot depends solely on your rank, which you can't change.

How they notify you: generally, from what I've heard, the normal method is a phone call. I would make sure all of your contact information is up to date.

The general trend, again from what I've heard, is that the offers come in spurts, the first of which will come after the May 16 deadline. They give accepted applicants after May 16 a week or so (the amount of time I am unsure of) to either accept the offer or decline. Thus the "spurts". They hand a bunch out and then don't hand out more until that grace period is over.

Most waitlist movement occurs from the end of May through June, with some movement going up until the start of classes, and no, I'm not kidding. Look at previous years' threads to see when people have been pulled off of the waitlist.

That's about it. It gets particularly annoying to come onto this thread and read about people pulling their hair out about why they haven't received a phone call, etc.

Be patient. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be.

ha yeah well some schools may not process the declined applicants as others. So I wouldn't expect a school to straight up have info on May 16, but I think going through last year's threads, there are schools that begin pretty soon after May 15.

Anyone know when the committee might meet again to review waitlisted applicants? Excuse my impatience.

From my understanding, the committee is finished "reviewing" applicants on the waitlist. At this point, I think everyone is ranked and that's how they're going to start picking students from the list.

Yup.

I decided to attend elsewhere. Good luck to everyone waiting! :luck:

the suspense is killing me. the week of May 16th can't get here fast enough. Has anyone gotten off the waitlist already?

This is what I'm talking about. You need to read earlier posts (specifically mine).

Once again, there will be NO word until AFTER May 16.

People, don't post things on here on May 16, "Oh when will they call? Why haven't they called? I'm so anxious and impatient!"

They will PROBABLY start offering people spots that week. PROBABLY. They're human beings, so they may take a week or so to process all of the people who will decline admission. CHILL OUT. RELAX.

However, I think it also should be said that those who do hear around May 16 should let everyone else here know just so we all have a vague idea of when they've started offering spots.

Withdrew acceptance. OOS (Canada). Good luck!

Hey all! I withdrew from the waitlist as well to attend another school... hope that helps someone! Good luck! :luck:

Have any accepted students heard anything from financial aid?

Not to be mean, but dude YOU need to relax and chill out!!! Its waitlist season now and people are going to freak out about it. let them do so. I've got people posting angry things to me when I've tried to tell people not to keep posting something. Its not worth it. Just let it go and ignore it. Its normal to see people freaking out over waitlist.

I nearly had a heart attack just now seeing that I got a letter from them saying I was on the waitlist, but when it came so soon after them telling me I was on waitlist in email, I thought it would be a rejection letter. Glad to see it wasn't and was rather just a hard copy of the letter they sent in email attachment.

I'm not angry. A little frustrated maybe, combined with a little passive aggressive. I understand people are freaked out about this; you don't think I am? This is the farthest I've gone in the multiple times I've applied. That's still no excuse for ignorance and not reading previous posts. I'm not the only one who's irritated. You are too.

The truth is, the only thing I want to read when I come on these forums, prior to May 16, is how people are withdrawing their spots.

Agree with spankx. Gujudoc's posts reek of desperation. its sad. and since when is "freaking out" normal? life is full of hurdles and stresses, learn to take them in stride.

Well then...ignore everything else? Lol. I think you light your own fuse rather than people lighting it for you.

Quit whining

To those on the WL stay up.. A person was accepted off the WL last year on the last day of orientation in August. The person was lacking in community service and did a lot over the summer, which seemed to help. This shows that updates and progress are always useful. Keep at it and good luck!

Mate, are you being serious?

We have to wait. We understand. But that's not going to make all the feelings of nervousness and anxiety go away. Apologies.

I generally haven't commented on how I feel, but I'm not going to single out those who do and belittle others who ask questions. Many people post here looking for words of encouragement, support, and finding others they can relate to; instead of the blatant dismissal and 'just shut up' type of replies. If you don't like it, don't reply or disregard it. But don't tell people what to post and what not to post. I'm annoyed by you practically demanding what people reply based on what YOU would like to see on the topic. But even then, I'm not going to attempt to prevent you from continuing to be annoying to me.

Also, there may be new users who haven't read every post of the whole topic. It is natural for certain questions to come up often. You're not forced to answer them. You're not even forced to read them. So don't try to prevent them because everyone has the right to ask what they please.

On another note, good luck to you.

Have any accepted students heard anything from financial aid?

I have, but it was just them asking for my 2010 federal tax return for the campus-based aid verification worksheet (form 1112). Something about them not being able to see that I used that new fangled IRS Data Retrieval System. My status on pipeline for all the required docs is "Received - Being Reviewed". I'm probably going to get all that promissory note business squared away towards the end of this week, but I do hope to hear from financial aid soon.

DJTiesto,

The only one desperate seems to be you who happens to be desperate for attn. But that's ok by me. I didn't even notice your post til just now cuz I honestly don't give two craps what you think of me.

If you even read spankz posts you'd realize it wasn't directed towards any one person. So go crawl back under the rock you crawled out from. You contribute nothing to this thread.

Look I appreciate the info you gave and I read your posts so I don't think its fair for you to assume that I didn't but thats not gonna stop me from worrying. Telling me to stop worrying now is like asking me not to worry about what I got on my MCAT after I took it. Of course I was anxious to find out even if people told me it was going to be okay its just the type of person I am and like others said you don't have to read my posts. Also, from what I read on previous years threads people have gotten off the waitlist before the 16th and so I was wondering if that had happened for anyone this year.

This is what I'm talking about. You need to read earlier posts (specifically mine).

Ok, first off, I would like to apologize to anyone and everyone if what I have written may have offended you or annoyed you.

Look, we're all in the same boat here and no one is served by being at each other's throats. We're all nervous and we're all worried. No one denies that and no one is saying "don't worry."

But, what I have been saying is that there's a difference between worrying and being irrationally pulling your hair out. I'm worried, but I also know how this process works.

I'm not saying don't be worried. I'm saying relax. You're just going to burn yourself out and give yourself a heart attack.

As for the repetitious questions, I understand that some people don't read previous posts. I was merely saying they should. All of the answers are there.

I'm not a moderator so I can't control what people post. I was merely offering my opinion. Besides, isn't it a little ironic and hypocritical to tell me to stop posting and whining because I suggested people should stop whining? Again, everyone, let's be civil.

eni9889, yes, people have been pulled off of the waitlist - at the previous decision dates. But, to answer your question more fully, no one has been pulled off after the last one on May 4. Waitlist movement, which will be significant, given past years trends, will occur after May 16 (or whatever the multiple acceptance deadline date is).

Again, everyone, I'm sorry for previous posts which may have been misconstrued as angry or mean. I will refrain from writing such posts in the future.

On a lighter note, doesn't it make your heart smile when you read here how someone has given up their spot?

I feel everyones pain here, im also on the waitlist. I was wondering, If I want to start reapplying from now, do I have to make a new AMCAS account or can I just edit the one I submitted last year? THANKS to whoever knows 🙂

You would use the same username and password to start the 2012 application, which would be completely blank. If you want to do some copy pasta, just sign in to the 2011 application to do so or reference your handy dandy backup copy. You did save a copy of your app, didn't you? 😛

On the topic of reapplying would anyone suggest starting now even if we are on the wayne state waitlist?

Well, if you have the time to spare, why not? I'm the type of person that likes having a backup plan whenever possible, so it might just be my personal preference. That being said, I would still wait until the first batch of waitlist movement occurs (which should be sometime in the next couple of weeks) because I don't like wasted efforts. Also, your AMCAS probably won't take nearly as much time because you're already a seasoned vet, so you can start putting it together nearer to the time you wish to submit it.

Now how about changing around personal statements and activity descriptions. The only thing that has really changed is I will be going to Georgetown's SMP if i don't get off of either of the two waitlists I am on. And a paper of mine was actually published. Should I just add that stuff or do schools like to see a completely new application?

Have any accepted students heard anything from financial aid?

I did, I already received and accepted my financial aid offer. I was accepted back in November though and knew I would be going here for sure when I was accepted, so I filled out the FAFSA as soon as it was available.

hey sedaniel, i'm just curious about something. i've been researching stafford loans and read on some sites (such as http://www.studentloannetwork.com/federal-student-loans/) that graduate or professional students can get up to $8,500 in subsidized federal loans. were you able to get this max amount? i got several thousand less than that subsidized, yet i got a lot more unsubsidized than the $12,000 maximum that's mentioned in that site. before i accept my award i just want to make sure this seems right or if others are getting similar numbers (preferably i'd like to get as much subsidized as possible vs. unsubsidized). just for reference i got my aid award about a week ago.

Hm.... you might want to talk to someone in the office, because I did receive the full $8500 in subsidized loans. The unsubsidized loan limit is actually higher than $12,000; the $12,000 number is for regular graduate students but medical students have a higher limit.

Does anyone know how many people are currently on the waitlist?

thank you so much for the advice!! i just called in and told them the situation, and somehow they misread my FAFSA as being a 4th year undergraduate, rather than a 1st year med student. so they updated the award amount to fit that of a 1st year med student and the subsidized is at a full $8,500 now 🙂 i am, however, scared to accept that gargantuan unsubsidized loan :/

Hey guys I will be withdrawing my acceptance in the next few days. Do I just send an email to admissions? I'm not sure how to go about doing this.

Gd luck to WLers! I have been in your shoes far too often and hope you all the best! 🙂

An email to admissions would work just fine.

That's a good point a week of waiting couldn't hurt. Also, I was wondering do people usually rewrite everything on their original application? My problem the first time was I applied way too late and so I figure if I apply earlier I'll have a better shot but I don't know if I should change my app alot especially since I was still in school so not much really happened except for more volunteer hours.

withdrew. Canadian OOS. I hope some lucky soul gets it.
GOOD LUCK
