Question to Philadelphia residents: Whats the easiest way to get from the 30th street station (taking megabus) to the medical school?
I would just take a taxi, it isn't that far. I don't know what your budget is though.

30th Street station is also a SEPTA station, you can just hop on the #10 trolley and take it until it ends at 13th & Market. Or you can take the Market-Frankford subway line to 11th St. station (11th & Market). Both will cost the same (I think it's $2.25 for a token these days, I haven't had to buy a token in a long time) and both get you to the same area. I'd look at the schedule ahead of time or use google maps and take whichever is coming at a more convenient time.

Good luck!

Take the subway. When you get to the MegaBus station, get off the bus and walk towards Market Street (cross over JFK Blvd and walk parallel to 30th Street Station). You'll see the subway stop on the corner when you hit Market. Take the subway going eastbound and get off at 11th Street. A pair of tokens costs $3.10 (or $1.55/token). You can purchase them at a machine right before you pass through the barriers. Otherwise, you can pay $2 in cash to the attendant for each way.

You can take the trolley, but they stop more frequently and can be a bit sketchy sometimes. The trolleys run very frequently through 30th Street Station (once every couple of minutes) vs. the subway that runs every 5-15 minutes depending on the time of day. If you're heading to Jeff in the morning during rush hour, the subway will come in roughly 5-minute intervals.

Hope this helps.

Second what above said:

Easiest is to take the subway EASTBOUND to Frankford (don't get on the westbound to 69th street) from 30th street. Cost you $2 cash and you'll get off at 11th street (it's the third stop: 15th, 13th and then 11th). From there it's a pretty straight walk to Jefferson's campus (5 mins) - you can ask anyone and they'll point you in the direction if you miss the Jefferson sign. Subway runs pretty often in the morning (every 5-10 mins).

Cab will cost like $8-10.

Has anyone heard anything this week? Does anyone know if the committee met on Wednesday? My interviewer said the next time they would meet would be 1/4. Thanks!

Has anybody who has been accepted gotten the Certiphi email yet? It seems like a lot of other people have gotten it already. I haven't gotten the email and wanted to make sure I didn't accidentally slip through the cracks.

"Interview to be scheduled"

General consensus seems to be that the actual invite can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks?

Yea that's the current trend. When were you complete, if you don't mind?

Has anyone who was previously placed on High Priority heard anything? Or will Jefferson only start to offer spots until after the May 15 deadline?

Not a peep. Presumably, we'll only start hearing once interviews are over, and May 15th will be not the first day that acceptances from the HP waitlist are offered, but a time when many acceptances will be offered.

interviewed a week ago. got a phonecall today. accepted. woohoo

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you love it when they get back to you so quickly???

Jefferson probably still has my application in the dark closet in their dungeon somewhere.....

I think they fed mine to their dragons...

April 26 - 27th are the confirmed second-look days.

Accepted last Wednesday! My first one!! One week turn around from my interview. Will most likely matriculate here. 😍😍😍 Good luck to everyone else!

Has anyone sent an update letter here? I sent one last week but I have not received any confirmation that they had received it and update my file.

So you're saying HP waitlist people may be notified before May 15th?

Hell. We might be notified by tomorrow! But who the hell knows? They may notify us tomorrow that the school is closing, too. I don't know anything extensive about the machinations of this school, just that most schools, once people start withdrawing because they've heard from non-rolling schools, start accepting from waitlists.

Will Jefferson do the same? Once again: Who knows?

Jefferson interviews very late into the season, and there are still open seats available in April. I'm not sure how this correlates with acceptances from the HP waitlist, because they might still wait until after the interviews conclude.

I'm still hoping for an interview here. :xf:

I can't say this is normal, but I know at least one person in our class who was accepted from the HP list in March.

Yeah, to reiterate, I have no idea what Jefferson will actually do; only that it is POSSIBLE that they will take people off of the HP waitlist before May 15th.

Does anyone know when the adcom meets in the week? Still waiting (maybe hopelessly) for an interview here

For those who have received acceptance packets, do you know when orientation will be starting (July 30 or Aug 6)?

Does this school care for updates and continued interest statements?

During my interview day they emphasized on showing continued interest through occasional e-mail updates if you happen to be waitlisted and really want to attend.

I am not exactly sure their position on accepting updates pre-interview though.

Any received an email saying "You are placed in a special Alternative category"?

Could you let me know if you get any feed back about your update letter? I think I'm going to go ahead and email them to ask if I can/should.

i've been complete since 8/10 at Jeff and I've sent in one update in mid october.

I'm still "decision pending"....

any hopes for an interview at this point? silent reject?

thnx

I'm in the same boat and im still holding out hope.

They still had some March openings a week ago. Don't know if those have since been filled up. Good luck.

I talked to a friend of mine who also sent an update and she did not receive any feedback either. I'm thinking I may call the office of admissions this week to confirm.

Anyone could explain what the "special alternate category" means?

Anyone could explain what the "special alternate category" means?

From what I gathered from the interview day and from the e-mail I received, there are not three (what they said) but FOUR things that can happen after your interview.

1. Acceptance - You know what this is.

2. Rejection - You also know what this is. They said this happens rarely.

3. Alternate List - It's a waitlist with a caveat, and that caveat is number 4.

4. High Priority Waitlist - Essentially, there's some sort of ranking system pre-waitlist that makes you eligible for the high priority waitlist but not an acceptance. From what I've heard (though don't quote me on this unless you're making a joke at my expense, which is completely acceptable), they almost always exhaust this list before going to the regular waitlist, and if they go to the regular waitlist first, it's really only for URMs, meaning that your whitebread (I think some of you call them cookie cutters, but I'm not in the mood for sweets right now.) applicant on the alternate list isn't in a great spot, but one on the HP waitlist has a pretty good chance.

Jefferson interviews about 800 (their words, and correct me if I'm wrong) for a class of over 200, and they accept more than the class size. It stands to reason that there's no reason they COULDN'T go to the alternate list if the HP waitlist ran out, so don't lose hope completely, but don't set your sights on this school unless you want to do a lot of letter writing.

interview invite! [complete 10/4] (34, 3.65)-- i think this may be my dream school.
any way i can just send them my deposit as opposed to a letter of intent if i get wL?

let's hope for some interview love in the near future! :luck:

how late are the interviews held? up until march/april?

I believe interviews are held up to early April because second look weekend is at the end of April.

Does an "Interview Deferred" status indicate I will be receiving an II for certain in the near future?

I'd love to hear if you get any confirmation as well.

I'm about to send my first update letter to Jefferson (would have sent something earlier but I've been waiting to have something substantial to update about and only finally have it) and I'm wondering if the people who have sent update letters have mailed them or emailed them? Any advice? I'm from Philly & I LOVElovelove Jefferson so I'm holding out hope for a late II!

Jefferson's class size is huge (250?), I was wondering if anyone has considered that in their decision to apply/attend this school. Is this an important factor? I like the school a lot, but that is one of the more negative aspects of the school, to me at least. Just an observation.

Just my 2 cents as a current student who had that reservation beforehand, you won't even notice the size of the class once you start. There's plenty of faculty to go around, and the small groups will ensure that you have a core 8-10 classmates that you are really close with (academically, at least). In terms of friends, it just means more to choose from, but no matter what school you attend you'll probably have a small core group anyway.

Yes, it seems like a drawback and my friends in other med schools always have the "gasp" reaction when I tell them our class size. But for all practical purposes, it doesn't really make a difference. You aren't going to be good friends with all ~100 classmates at any other school, and it's no different here. That being said, with 250 people you still recognize everyone and smile at each other in the street, even if you're not particularly well-acquainted with each other. After all, you'll spend 3-5 hours a day in the same lecture hall 5 days a week.

In my humblest opinion, it's just one more number that we think about during the application stage that has no noticeable effect on the actual med school experience. If you liked what you saw here during your interview day in terms of the atmosphere and student happiness, don't let the class size deter you. The students you met were the way they were in spite of (because of?) the class size.

Either way, good luck in the decision process!

I second what Dude Man said above. You really won't notice it at all. We have plenty of faculty members, so if you're worried about having to compete with other students for exposure, no worries. For example, we have preceptorships during second year, and it's usually 2 to 3 students per physician. When you're in the clinical skills center, they also split you up into small groups. It's usually 3-4 students per standardized patient. So far this year, it's been just 2 students per standardized patient for me. You also have small groups where you spend a lot of time with 8 or 9 other students and 2 faculty members.

Also, if you don't go to class, you really won't notice it haha. I usually don't go to lectures, but when I do, there are only ~50-60 (maybe even fewer) people in class. So far, the class size hasn't bothered me at all. I actually enjoy it.
