Dude, I submitted my application in early July, and I am now just getting a completed email. All I can say is wow.![]()
Did your AMCAS application just get verified?? They wait until your AMCAS primary application is verified (which takes 4-6 weeks) to send you the complete email. That may explain the lag time, because regardless of when you send the secondary application in, your file at LSU is not complete until they get the the thumbs up from AMCAS.

^^ has anyone else had a similar experience by chance? the whole thing is so weird to me... none of my friends had these problems.
Hi all,
I completed undergrad in 2009 with the intent of going to medical school, but ended up pursuing other things for two years (research, teaching, etc.). Just decided I want to go to medical school and saw the application is still open. Is it too late to apply this cycle, if I can get all the application materials together in ~2 weeks?
Thanks!
Just keep in mind, AMCAS takes up to 6 weeks (avg from what I've seen of mine and my friends ~4-5 weeks) to process your primary application from the time you submit AND they've received all of your transcripts.
If you have money to spare, I'd say go for it? Especially if you're in-state for this school. I don't think the secondary deadline for LSU New Orleans is until January anyway, right? (Double check that deadline.)
I think that qualifies you to be a LA resident. Working/living there shows you want to stay there. I think I read earlier in the thread that they interview until March and usually fill their seats after the holidays. From what you wrote, the MCAT date should be okay -- but you should call the admissions office to verify if they will accept it.Thanks for the input. I've been living/working near NOLA for the last 1.5 years, but no significant ties other than that. The secondary deadline for LSU-NO is Jan. 15. Any thoughts on if they will still have unfilled seats at this point?
Also, I'm confused about the MCAT dates they accept. The website says the oldest MCAT scores considered is the last test from the 2008 MCAT cyle. I took it in August 2008. Is that ok? Is there some wiggle room there?
Thank you!

So I received a complete email yesterday and today another email was sent telling me to disregard the previous complete email. anyone experience this?
"As you know, the Admissions Committee at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans met this past Friday to consider applicants. The AAMC has a traffic rule for all medical schools, that letters of final action (acceptance, rejection or hold) can not be mailed until October 15th. Since the 15th falls on a Saturday when this office is closed, letters will not be mailed to you until Monday the 17th. I appreciate how anxious you are to learn of your status, however, we must abide by their rules and regulations."
This was sent this morning.
Wait, I thought post interview rejections can be send prior to October 15th? 😕

I just remembered my big fat REJECTION from Vanderbilt. I got that like two weeks ago. Maybe LSU has a policy of not issuing rejections before Oct. 15th, but it's written into the AAMC traffic rules that schools can reject prior to that date. Just can't issue any acceptances to non-EDP applicants.
can't say my experience was similar, but did the receptionist say exactly "you should get one but you wont be"?
I never got a complete email, just an interview invite. maybe that's what she means. fingers crossed.![]()
does receiving a complete email mean a later interview or basic rejection?
Unless you receive a rejection don't assume you've been rejected. Dr. Eubanks made it clear that they will not make most decisions for most applicants until February
Hey I'm interviewing on Tuesday and I just have a quick, unrelated question that I've been curious about. I know that NO gives acceptances by mail, but do they give their rejections by mail too? If so, is there a way to tell if it's a rejection or acceptance just by looking at the envelope? Like is one bigger than the other? Thanks!
That's exactly what I needed to hear! I already had a preconceived notion that big envelope=good, small business envelope=bad. Thanks!Don't know about the rejection but the acceptance letter comes in a small business envelope. So if you see that in your mailbox dont' freak out! It doesn't automatically mean you're not in 🙂

EDIT: One other question that's a little more vague. Do they mail the letter to your permanent address or your current address?

Just got this email:
"You may have mistakenly received an email yesterday afternoon stating that your file was complete. Please disregard this email. A complete file consist of the following: AMCAS application, Secondary Application (all parts Stage 2 Questionnaire, Copy of Driver's license, Social Security Card, Picture, Application Fee and males only Selective Service Registration), 3 letters of recommendation from Science/Math professors who have taught you in a didactic course or Pre-Med Committee Evaluation.
If your file is complete and you would like to check the status of your application you may call our office on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m."
And the saga continues...
I live on the Northshore. Letter is in. I'm @ work though, won't open until after 6PM.![]()
