ok..........so I have not seen a rejection on this site. pretty quick acceptances but not one rejection or wait list? Is this accurate?

same kind of thing seems to be happening on the Upstate forum.
I'm not sure what's going on... either the schools are pulling their punches or this year's forum participants are uber prepared.

Received the email late yesterday afternoon. Interviewed 12/8.

In-stater.

I have incredibly anxiety right now. Interviewed mid-late November -___-
Wow I can imagine your anxiety. I interviewed first week of December and am already getting nervous. Especially when someone who interviewed after me already got accepted.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're still working. I don't know if it's at a slower pace though.

I'm not sure how it is at this school, but usually turnaround time isn't indicative of your decision. Sometimes it depends largely on the interviewer's schedule and when he is available to present you to the committee.

ah i was wondering since it seemed that several people got their status about 2 weeks after their interview but for others it took over 6 weeks

well, on last years thread no one heard anything from early Dec until Jan 3rd..........and then the waitlist news started coming. I hate to spread gloom but I could not find anyone that interviewed early Dec, (like me), get an acceptance in the new year. I did not look to find out if some of those eventually got off the wait list. It does not look good for the November and early Dec interviewees. It seems the quick turn around means acceptance. For the rest of us, time is not on our side.

i interviewed in mid december '08 and got an acceptance in early january '09.

don't try to predict things according to sdn threads. the only thing you can do right now is send a letter of interest/intent (which i highly recommend if SB is your top choice)....other than that do your best to distract yourself with other things in your life.

i wish that i interviewed earlier so i would have had the chance to hear by now

Accepted today via email! Interviewed on 12/8/11.

Good luck everyone 🙂

accepted!!! six day turnaround....ridiculous. anyone looking for a roommate?? pm me.

congrats fellas! that's a very quick turnaround!

WOW Congratulations to both of you. I am happy to have my theory shot down in such a good way. Hopefully more of us will get our stockings filled today!

YES! Finally, archer, you are using capital letters and your post is brimming with optimism!

I've been waiting for this day...*tear*

Good luck with the interview! For those who have interviewed recently, any new updates?

Interviewing here next Friday. Was wondering if they had pretty much filled up their class yet or if spots are still available?

Yeah...I'm wondering the same thing - haven't heard back yet and was complete sometime in October. I would have felt that by now they would have certainly gotten back to me...are there any spots to interview left?

they definitely have spots left, i had my interview last week and the dean said your chances remain the same whether you interview early on or later in the the cycle. she said that you basically have a 50% chance either way.

Really? I was recently accepted but when I talked to the Dean of admissions, he said that they've already filled much of the class... there are still acceptances but a whole lot less.

I figured it would probably be something to this effect. I wouldn't mind being waitlisted but I know last year it didn't move too much.

of course I'd rather just be accepted

For any of the accepted students out there, did you get any confirmation of receiving your acceptance of offer from the office of admissions?

Yeah. I just got the email for confirmations of receiving my acceptance yesterday. It took 2.5 weeks for them to confirm it though.

How oos friendly is this place? Can anyone give me some insight??

There are plenty of both. There are many opportunities to volunteer, either medically related or not. In particular, we have SBHOME, which is a student run health clinic for the medically underserved/uninsured. Pre-clinical students have the opportunity to volunteer, and are generally put on triage duty. They then accompany a clinical student while the patient is assessed and meet with the attending to present the patient and formulate a treatment plan. This is a very good way to get some clinical exposure. People can also volunteer at health fairs. There is an exercise program for children through the pediatric cardiology department, and plenty of other volunteer opportunities that I'm just not thinking of at the moment.

There isn't much formal time in a clinic during the first year. During second semester, 1st years are assigned to a preceptor and spend some time in a clinical setting. I believe 2nd years spend a little more time in the clinic than we do. We are frequently encouraged in specialty interest group meetings to throw on our white coats and hang around out on the hospital floor for a few hours to get a taste of that particular specialty, but I have yet to do that 😳.

Congrats on your interview, and good luck! .

Hey I had a question for you if you don't mind answering. So Stony Brook is very research oriented, especially with that huge donation recently. Do you ever get the feeling that the faculty are very research-oriented and less focused on teaching? I ask because I currently go to a research heavy school and the professors aren't the best teachers as a result because they only care about their research. It is something I'd really like to avoid. Any insight would be great, thanks.

I'll be withdrawing my acceptance in the coming week so I hope that opens up a spot for other people! Good luck everyone!

the MSAR is your best guide to answer this question. when i applied it seemed that stony brook was one of the least oos friendly sunys but still pretty oos friendly in the grand scheme of things.

the professors for the preclinical courses are extremely dedicated to teaching. most of them have been teaching the same course for may years and the administration is very responsive to student feedback when something isn't working. for instance the second year pharmacology course was recently completely revamped as a result of student feedback. your experience here will in no way be similar to your undergrad experience in that regard.

I agree with SkinMD. From what I have seen (I am a first year) the course directors are very dedicated. They work hard make sure we understand the material and get what we need out of the course. They have all been very good teachers and tend to be pro-student.

i'm really hoping for an interview here and sent an update letter of interest a while ago, but got no reply back saying that they'll got/put it in my file, etc.

is this standard and i should just assume they processed it?😕

You can always call them and make sure. Last I checked, they were pretty receptive to updates so they should've gotten back to you.

Interviewed today. Was a really good experience. Hoping for that acceptance email

dont worry. i sent my grades/update letter on 12/30 and just received an email from them saying they received it. I think they are either overloaded with emails or just getting out of the holiday slow-down.
🙂

What is the best way to submit fall grades and an update letter? Is it appropriate to just make a table of your own and attach it to an email, or does it have to be in official transcript form? Thanks a lot! 🙂

Just gave up my acceptance here. I really liked the school, but it can't compare to my instate. Good luck and enjoy!

Accepted in December.

Withdrawing acceptance today.

Good luck everyone!

i'm not sure if i should be glad that spaces are opening up or sad that people don't like my favorite school.
