Hey guys, I am a medical student at UAB, I haven't checked out these threads in a while but I guess this is the time of waitlist movement? Anyway, if any of you guys have any questions about anything regarding the whole crazy process -- or the even crazier med school part just shoot me a message. Just a reminder for the newbies on SDN, here are the stats from the past few years:

2008-2009 Thread:

"This year 2261 students applied, 405 interviewed, and 275 acceptances were offered to fill the 175 positions. Of the 102 students placed on the alternate list, 75 were offered a position at UASOM and 11 of the remaining alternates were accepted elsewhere."

2009-2010 Thread:

"This year 2410 students applied, 405 were interviewed and 265 acceptances were offered to fill the 176 positions. Of the 98 students placed on the alternate list, 68 were offered a position at UASOM and 8 of the remaining alternates were accepted elsewhere."

2010-2011 Thread:

"This year 2534 students applied, 372 were interviewed and 267 acceptances were offered to fill the 176 positions. Of the 132 students placed on the alternate list, 69 were offered a position at UASOM and 26 of the remaining alternates were accepted elsewhere."

Just curious...do you guys think that the wait list is around 132 like last year? I know many people are saying that we should expect a matriculation cycle like the 2009-2010 year since the wait list was so early.

Also, I've heard some things about there being a new director of admissions this year? Has anyone else heard this? I'm tempted to call UAB and ask the size of the wait list this year, but I'm almost positive they will not release that information until post acceptance of all students. Any of you brave souls, feel free to call! haha Thoughts?!?

Oh and another thing...I talked to admissions, and they told me to keep an eye on this website for movement on the list. As soon as they begin to accept those off of 2nd tier (I'm hoping in May), they will update this site.

Can't wait for more movement! I'm trying to remain hopeful. There has to be more SDNers on here though. There is no way that the wait list is this small. :/
 
anybody know why uab placed so many ppl on waitlist last year?
 
Or if they have that many people on the waitlist again this year or if last year was just unusual?
I know they don't publish this until after the class has matriculated but I'm just wondering and anxious.

I also have three other friends on the alternate list. Don't think they are on here. Two in upper third, one in middle
 
i also know 2 other people who arent on here that are on the wait list. one middle and one lower

@gatorade848 Georgetown is quite impressive, you might like it better than UAB. Is there any particular reason why you want to go to UAB over Georgetown? If you don't mind me asking.

now i just got in EVMS smp with 300 deposit due next week, i guess I should pick evms to just save money at this point? lol

every single year uab has taken people off the waitlist in a gradual/constant pace all the way till july right? I mean other than may 15th mass decline in acceptances nation wide lol
 
If that's true then by going by the movement thus far (2 off the waiting list per week), then all the middle tier should be accepted in the next 5 to 6 weeks?!?!? But that's me being EXTREMELY optimistic.

How do you suppose? If its 2 per week then that only means 10-12 more in the next 5 to 6 six weeks. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't even complete the upper tier. Love the optimism but patience is what is needed. Good luck to all.
 
pretty sure there are non-sdn people on the waitlist so I think the actual # of acceptances should be a bit higher. anybody know why the waitlist is out and moving so early this year? my mom kept saying its a bad thing and I just like:annoyed:

I am optimistic just based on the 2009-2010 cycle i posted. waitlist started moving very early, and its moving steadily ever since
