This thread is quieter than I had hoped. Where art thou interview? Based on the responses so far, it seems that many October interview dates are open. I have been sitting and waiting since the middle of July. I guess I was passed over. You were a silent mistress, Iowa, and I will miss you dearly. I hope you call me if you have an open night - you have my number 😉

I really want an interview here as well! Please Iowa, look at meeeee!

FWIW, I've been complete since the first week of august and I'm still waiting. Will sending an update make a difference?

Scheduled my interview today. Earliest available, Oct. 26.
Edit: Can anyone who interviewed this year confirm the 3 standard questions and if they still had an ethical question like last years format?

Why med.?
Rising costs of med solution?
Ethical question (someone refusing a procedure or should everyone have healthcare?)

I know they keep the same questions for interview cohorts but I'm not sure if the questions are modified for each cohort. Why medicine is always a given though.

In case anyone was wondering about the student hosting- there's a form online to fill out but apparently there was a glitch in the system and the forms weren't sent out to the hosts. They will follow-up soon.

I'm a bit nervous since my interview is next week and I don't want to crash on my brothers floor!

The Iowa House Hotel is also a good option (at the Iowa Memorial Union). It is pretty cheap and the buses will take you anywhere you want to go on campus for free.

Thanks Midwestern, I saw how close you came in last years thread. Are you joining us in the process this year?

Last year was pretty disappointing, but the director of admissions said it was an unusually abundant year for exceptionally talented applicants. I finished 5th on the in-state alternate list (after starting at 32), but in retrospect it is a pretty big deal just to make the waitlist here anymore.

Also, yeah I'm reapplying. I interviewed a couple weeks ago so I hope I hear something on Oct 18th.

just to clarify, the iowa interview is closed file, right?

Wanted to wish everyone luck... especially those of us who are here AGAIN lol.
Midwestern... i was sure you would make it last year! Oh well, here's to the year that it all happens 👍

reapplying to carver myself...can anyone tell me what the current processing time is for AMCAS? I've been waiting or about 3 weeks. I'm assuming 6 weeks max but am looking for anyone who might have insight? Thanks!

It should be about 5 weeks

hahaha!!!

For ppl who interviewed did the admissions office mention when we might here back on the committee decision for our apps? for us they said anytime until March w/ the committee reviewing every tuesday. Just wondering if anybody else heard a different timeframe?

Earliest you'll hear is about 4-6 weeks, but they are serious about anytime until March. If not selected you stay in the pool of applicants.

yay! I got an interview. 30-32 MCAT, > 3.90 GPA. Complete in mid-July.

This is quite possibly the most frustrating thing Iowa does. They should send out at least a few rejections so that at least you know if you have no chance at being considered for a seat in the class. Instead, you get strung along until very late in the process if you aren't accepted through rolling admission. I think being put into the final pool of applicants should have a more positive aspect other than the fact that you haven't been eliminated from consideration yet.

Wow....I just got accepted. It is just surreal. I've never wanted anything more than this. Reapplicant, in-state, 36Q MCAT, and 3.95 gpa. Good luck to everybody else! I will continue to follow this thread and answer any questions that people have. Try not to get too discouraged throughout the whole process, it's tough for everyone.

Congrats! 😀 I remember you from last year's thread if that doesn't sound too stalker-ish haha. When did you interview?

I stalked this thread last year - and am incredibly happy for you. CONGRATS!!! 😀

Congratulations Midwestern! We were pulling for you. Hopefully a few more of us will be joining you in the months ahead!

Accepted today about an hour ago. Just got the email. Can't think straight. I am ecstatic!!!!
Submitted secondary in late July and interviewed in Sept.

Just finished up my interview here. The format of the day is actually very relaxing - you move from speaker to speaker with little lag time. The campus is hyoooge.

The 25 minute structured interview is...interesting. Since you essentially know what you're being asked, it seems like everybody will have rehearsed, polished answers.

Wasn't particularly happy about my eloquence during the interview (misspoke once or twice, some awkward sentence structuring) but I hope they I answered their questions satisfactorily. Would totally love to go here, fingers crossed.

Congrats to the accepted! Wasn't expecting to see decisions until Tuesday (fairly sure that's what they said during interview day adcom meeting is on the 18th for first batch of acceptance), haven't heard anything yet myself, OOS, hoping for good news tomorrow...

ya pretty surprised too, but I'm sure they met before the 18th, and are just releasing those decisions. but considering past years, seemed pretty consistent on the whole tuesday thing

Btw, when did you interview?

Accepted here today as well. IS 37M 3.91 cGPA. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Do you mind sharing the 3 questions they have asked you?

Ethical question (someone refusing a procedure or should everyone have healthcare?)

I know they keep the same questions for interview cohorts but I'm not sure if the questions are modified for each cohort. Why medicine is always a given though.

The first question: does it refer to Meds like drugs or medical services in general? are they looking for an economical model or just to see if we are aware of the problem and if we can formulate logical arguments?
Congrats on being accepted man!

Got accepted earlier this afternoon also. IS, 3.95, 32Q. Congrats everyone!

When did you guys interview? Super excited to hear back from this school even if i kinda botched the interview. Congrats! 👍

So seeing as the adcom usually meets on Tuesdays, is there any chance that we'll be seeing more acceptances tomorrow?

Absolutely. I would be surprised if more acceptances don't go out tomorrow. I'm guessing the adcom met last week and since this is the first day they could release decisions, today's decisions were the result of that. Look for acceptances to start going out anywhere from 1 to 5 pm CST tomorrow.
