Complete since 7/18. Emailed them a couple of weeks ago. They said mine was under review, then heard nothing more.

Rejected as well. I've been waiting on this one. It's pretty obvious it was coming since I've been complete since 6/23! I was just hoping I would get an acceptance from one of my other 6 interviews and withdraw beforehand haha😉

3.86/3.92/30

Rejected too! BALLIN'!

All for the best, I suppose, being that I hate both the Steelers and the city of Pittsburgh with an eternal passion. 😀

Sorry, U Pitt, I tried to give you a chance at redemption. 😉

lol...I guess I shouldnt feel to bad about this one. They denied some pretty qualified individuals.

Rejected as well

Yea, looks like they did a mass cleaning of the old "bucket" today

To add more light on this bucket situation, I work in Scaife and while on the 5th floor today I saw in the office of admissions that they had taken all of the rejectees names from the bucket and put them in a pinata, along with candy and our dreams, and were taking turns hitting it while having a fiesta...as your name would fall out of the soul crushing papier-mache creature, they would promptly pick it up and send you your rejection email.

@Frazier - I know I am not as clever as you, but trying to bring in humor to the situation nonetheless 😀

Rejected as well, not surprisingly

hahaha! That helps I guess its better to get rejected now than have to wait for one later. Good luck to all of those awesome applicants who got one.

Rejected today.

3.8/38...oh wait, those weren't my stats 😏

GL guys! :luck:

I have a feeling that they ran out of interview slots and that's why everyone got rejected today. When I was there, they said that interviews are ending in December this year and they are cutting down the interviews to about 850 (if I remember correctly).

Sorry to hear about the rejections, but good luck elsewhere! I'm sure you'll all be fine. 🙂

If they want to interview you, they will send an email. It was pretty prompt on my behalf, so I don't know if a status change occurred beforehand.

Take what I said with a grain of salt. I'm just letting everyone know that Pitt's interview season is a lot shorter than most.

Hey all,

I didn't know if any Pitt Med students had posted here. I hope that the admissions process treats you well. Sorry to hear about those of you who recently received a rejection letter. I hope that you have other bright prospects. I'm sure most of you do.

Any of you waitlisted or accepted who have any questions, let me know and I'll try my best to answer them. I hope that the application process didn't cause you to pull out all of your hair. I know that it was a nerve wracking year for me.

When I scheduled my interview last week, it was slim pickings -- just a few in November and December, pretty sure there was nothing in January. Judging from the harsh flood of rejections, they may very well be out of interview slots, or at least close to.

To those rejected, I wish you the best of luck with your other schools! :luck:

Sorry to hear about the rejections. To rejected applicants, best of luck in your other interviews. I'm sure many of you have other bright prospects as well. No one can win them all.

For those who are still waiting to hear back, they are definitely not out of spots yet. I received an interview invite today and when I went online to schedule, there are plenty of dates left in November and December.

Wow, 3rd rejection. It was sitting in my Spam folder, too, otherwise would have caught it earlier.

this made the rejection feel better

If we're interviewing in late Nov/early December, is that really late then? Are we disadvantaged?

Hi all,

I was fortunately enough to not be rejected at the end of last week, despite being complete for quite a while. I'm not sure how good my chances are of getting an II at this point--I know it's late for Pitt, etc. I'd like to sent an update letter/letter of interest, but their website says that the most appropriate time to send letters is after the interview. I don't want to annoy them and ruin any chances I had of getting one, but at this point it feels almost like it couldn't hurt much anyway. What do you guys think?

Thanks! 🙂

Does anyone know what date Pitt will release first round of decisions?

soccerboy90: At my interview day (9/14), they said they would start releasing decisions somewhere between the beginning and middle of November.

We were told mid to lat November, probably late.

Last year, I believe it was around November 15th.

However, they've said they only intend to accept 10-20% of applicants straight up, reject 10%, and waitlist the rest until March/April.

Good Luck!

Thanks cyxy and Sam500! Interviewed back in August, so kinda getting anxious.

Any chance of catching Megabus at 3:30 after my interview?? :scared: For reference, it picks up at 10th St and Penn Ave... any opinions from people who know the area/interview schedule would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering whether I should withdraw from my Pitt interview...I was just accepted at UC Davis and would be happy attending there. My ticket to Pitt would cost >$400 and for now, I can't imagine living in PA. (I'm from CA and am going to school in MA). However, I know that Pitt has a GREAT program so I'm hesitant. Thoughts? If current students have anything to help me decide/sway me to interview, I would love to hear it!

Thanks a bunch!

I'm not a Pitt student, but I interviewed and was accepted there last cycle. I thought I had a pretty good idea of my opinion of schools when I submitted my primary, but somehow I convinced myself to attend every interview I was offered. Sure, $400+ is a lot of money and should not be overlooked. But if you really believe Pitt could be a better fit for you, then I think you should still attend.

As for not imagining yourself living in PA, I know at Pitt my faculty interviewer (a native of CA and a PittMed alum) talked at length about how she hated Pittsburgh before she interviewed there and had no interest in attending but when she arrived she completely changed her mind and hasn't left since. It's certainly not a guarantee that you'll find something to love, but there's a good chance. I guess I'd just say make sure you won't regret passing up an interview.

Thanks...that's why I'm trying to be completely sure before I book my ticket/withdraw.

Can someone please tell me in detail what your interview at Pitt was like?

Its my first interview so far so I don't know what to expect. What do the faculty and med student interviewers ask you? I hear in some schools they ask you pretty difficult questions - such as presenting you with a tough ethical dilemma and asking you what you would do in that scenario.

Interview day at Pitt is really well organized and pretty chill.

I'm a current Pitt undergrad, so I can tell you a little about living in Pittsburgh. The weather isn't great. I would assume that UC Davis would have sunnier and warmer weather than Pittsburgh would. I would say that winter here goes from about November to early April. I mention weather first because that's what a lot of California natives have mentioned as a sticking point for Pitt.

However, the cost of living in Pittsburgh is pretty low. A lot of people can find a two-person apartment for $800 or less per month. There are lots of different things to do in Pittsburgh with regard to dining and entertainment. Obviously, there are no beaches nearby. The public transit system is fair, and you have unlimited use of the bus system with your student ID. Oakland (where the undergraduate and medical school campuses are located), Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill are where many Pitt students elect to live, and all of those neighborhoods are fairly safe. You would not necessarily need a car.

Was there anything else you wanted to know about?

Pitt will be Pass/Fail first two years starting for entering class of 2012.

FYI

I saw that email about the curriculum. When I saw who it was from I definitely had a microsecond freak-out... until I realized what the message was actually about.

Great to hear that they made both MS1 and MS2 P/F though!

exciting news! makes me wish I wasn't such a long shot for acceptance. :xf:

Dear Pitt,
An email from admissions starting with " we are exited to" should be offering me an acceptance.
Yay for pass/fail though!
Sincerely,
Blife

Thanks for the information! I'm actually not as worried about the weather as most Californians as I've lived in MA the past 3.5 years for school. Yay New England weather! -.-

I guess I was wondering whether there were things especially cool about the curriculum or interactions between students?

It's definitely nice that it's now P/F for the first two years though! 😀

Dear Nymph,
We are very excited to announce that the...
:scared:

WTF PITT....don't tease me like that!!

*sees email from Pitt admissions*
~ gasp!!:scared:

"We are very excited to announce that..."
~ AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA... 😱

"...blah blah a Pass/Fail grading system..."
~ ...AAAawwwwww 😏

Don't tease me like this!!!! :bang:

decisions don't go out until ~11/15, so it wasn't really a tease

bro, having lived in Pittsburgh almost my whole life...the bus system is downright pathetic and I'd shoot myself before having to rely on our buses to get anywhere. Sometimes the bus comes 20 minutes early, sometimes 20 minutes late...sometimes it never comes. When it does come, you can count on a nice and long tour of Pittsburgh before you get to where you want to go. That said (aside from our public transportation) Pittsburgh is really a great city.

Aw, Port Authority isn't THAT bad! This semester is the first time I've had my car here (only for traveling to interviews) in 3+ years. Even though I have my car, I still prefer to use the buses so I don't have to worry about finding parking or paying the meter. And during weekdays (during non-rush hour times) many buses run like clockwork, especially the 71's and 61's.

Oakland is in an AMAZING location: easy bus ride to downtown, Shadyside (shopping), Squirrel Hill (shopping, eating), and South Side (shopping, entertainment). It takes a lot longer to get to places like the Waterfront or the Strip District by bus, and sometimes you have to take 2 buses (i.e. to Station Square) but hey, you can't beat free transportation as a student 🙂

If you are worried about living in Pittsburgh, don't be. True, someone that has lived there their entire life might think Port Authority is bad and while it surely is not the best public transit system in the world, it is better than most. As someone who has traveled/lived in many places and experienced transportation in the northeast, south and west, it is fine (and a great deal). They may or may not have found drums of unaccounted cash in Port Authority offices once though...

I moved west because I wanted to live out here and I do not regret leaving everyone back East for a second, but I can tell you that Pitt is the only school east of CO I applied to seriously (JHU too, but really just to appease my fiancee, Baltimore is an awful city). I would be fine with being back in Pittsburgh, great cost of living, great quality of life, awful weather. It is a very good place to live.

P.S. I am wearing a Pens shirt as I write this.

Interview invite today... Sunday weird?

complete last Tuesday =)

First get rid of that insulting Flyers avatar. But seriously, the interview feedback page was pretty helpful. I don't know what else you want to know.
