I thought the curriculum intro talk was disorganized. The fourth year students, who didn't have the full new curric, were repeatedly correcting the admissions dean giving the talk.

We had the curriculum talk in the morning, befor the fourth years were there (but after the tour). We sat down in the big conference room where lunch was and went through each year. Seemed ok to me, but maybe someone else gave the curriculum talk to your group.

What day did you interview? I interviewed on 11/16 and also felt the curriculum talk was very well done. It answered all of the questions that I had going into it. I was highly impressed by the entire day. Now the wait for a decision begins...

In September. Seemed like a well-informed talk to me.

Hey everyone,

So I am never on here anymore, because let's face it, I'm a busy med student who also has a life. But I still get the emails and have noticed a lot of trashing of Pitt's admissions process on here lately.

First off, do not believe those people who say no one gets off the wait list until May. I was taken off the wait list in February and I know I am not the only one. Yeah it kind of sucks to have to wait a bit, but let's be honest. A lot of people who really aren't all that interested in Pitt withdraw before then because they feel special and think they don't deserve to wait it out. And that's fine, but that's exactly what Pitt wants. They don't want the people who think they "deserve" anything or that really do not want to be here. I'm sure we lose out on a lot of great med students, but guess what, my class and all the others are filled with really great people. So in the end, we don't really lose much.

This is a great school and I had my pick between 11 schools. I do not regret for one moment the decision I made. Yeah, I could have been in better cities like Boston and NYC, but I chose this place because it is special and I've really seen all it has to offer in the last 3 and a half months.

I'm sorry if a lot of you are tired of waiting, have families to consider, etc. I know it is tough, I was there a year ago. But if you love this school, don't lose hope. Pitt will realize how much you want to be here. This school and this city, believe it or not, have a lot to offer.

Good luck to you all and Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. Pitt has an excellent turnaround...and no, they do not stop looking at applicants who apply after a certain date. I applied so close to their deadline it's kind of incredible I'm even here LOL

AMCAS is due here by November 1. Even if you submit secondary on Nov. 1 the last interview slot is Dec. 16. to get scheduled for an interview you'd have to have submitted by August, at latest.

anybody with sept/october submission dates with interview invites? if so, stats?

I was complete on 9/23 and received an II on 9/26 for 11/9. MCAT > 30, GPA> 3.9, URM

amen.

Yeah, i'm quickly learning that this is going to be a long process, but appreciate it for what its worth. Getting too tied up in this seems silly, so early in the cycle.

Hey, I've never posted to SDN before, I'm mostly a reader, but I wanted people to know that I just checked my status on the Pitt website and I have an acceptance, but did not get an email (checked yesterday, and it said "under review")! Hopefully this is not a mistake, but heads up: you should be checking your status!

I interviewed 11/4

I got waitlisted 🙁. I thought I did well on interviews

yeah me too. I don't know when I officially got the decision, but I checked yesterday and it said I was waitlisted. I'm really not looking forward to feeling my phone vibrate at some point this coming week and thinking it might be an email with an interview or other status update only to realize that it is just pitt telling me that I'm still on the waitlist :scared:.

Pitt could have made me withdraw sooo many applications with some good news but now i'm still in limbo.

congrats to everyone that got accepted, and to everyone on the waitlist - early acceptances please.

I feel like this is all just semantics.. if Pitt were to just use the term "status on hold" or "deferred" like a lot of other schools call it then no one would be making as big of an issue about all of the "waitlists"

I've seen a lot of talk about sending a letter of interest when on the waitlist, but does anyone know how receptive they are to update/interest letters pre-interview?

Seeing as their interview season is coming to an end next month, it couldn't possibly hurt to send one and hope for the best

Got accepted!
I submitted in August, interviewed Oct 10th, heard back a few days ago. I had good interviews with the student and faculty. My undergrad is in Pitt which made the interview experience less stressful. Good luck everyone!

This is probably true...It would be nice, though, if Pitt took a slightly larger amount outright. I think that 10% is kind of slim, even compared to other schools that use similar sorts of strategies. Regardless, Pitt is a great school and I'm sure it would be worth the wait.

I love when people say they have a >30 mcat. Thanks for the detailed score breakdown

Maybe some people prefer to keep their scores very general so that adcoms can't identify them from here? There's no rule saying that people have to give out their exact GPA and scores on SDN...

Got the official acceptance letter in the mail today! This is the first "personalized" acceptance letter I've gotten so far (they wrote a few sentences about my academics and specific research project). Was a nice touch fo sho.

I agree theres no rule. I just know that adcoms aren't trying to track us down on here.

I don't think they're trying, but a few on SDN have been identified at interviews because of their MDapps.

Codeblue and Cinclus both said they were identified. I don't think it had a negative impact on them though.

Yea, after I saw codeblu post about someone recognizing him, I went back through my MDApps page and made it even more vague lol. If anyone has specific questions then they can PM me.

Personally, I tend to skip detailed information when reading on forums, so if I ever post (obviously rare) it probably is gonna be a quick overview. I figure if you want more info you can ask.

Since I fell into the category of people that you love, here ya go:
35Q, 14PS/10V/11BS

And if you want more GPA breakdown, here are my AMCAS stats:
3.77 overall, 3.75 BCPM, 3.85 AO

Does anyone know how Pitt prefers the letter of interest to be sent? email/mail? Who do I address it to?

Withdrew from here...hopefully that frees up an interview spot for someone

Post interview? Were you waitlisted?

Let us examine what the poster had said. :

Based on the following passage, please choose the best answer.

Withdrew from here...hopefully that frees up an interview spot for someone

The author stated that:

  1. I want a brand new ferrari
  2. By saying that it frees up an interview for someone else, the author probably meant that they withdrew pre-interview, as post interview would not free up a spot
  3. Boy, is it windy outside
  4. It is possible that the poster withdrew post-interview; however, how would that free up a spot?

Im just joking with this guys, chillax - bet you didn't see the white font eh?

This is why I did so horribly on verbal. All those answers look right to me!

Edit: and yes I saw the white font

Unfortunately, they all look right to me too. Sigh - problems of a med school applicant...

Hello everyone! Does anyone interviewing on or around Dec 9 want to explore Pittsburgh with me(or show me around if you are a Pitt native or student)?

I have a feeling that you had it on a day that the normal person was gone so you had someone that does it maybe twice a year. Usually it's very well organized. I still give my personal curriculum talk to those that are in my tour group anyway so most of it is really redundant in the "official" talk for my group.

did... did i just get a holiday greeting card from UPitt?

that's nice! but I want a big packet, one that starts with "Congratulations!" :xf:

Lol, I saw this post, went directly to my mailbox, and there it is, a card sized envelop.

Haha, this made my day!

What if I didn't receive one in the mail? Does that mean they lost interest in me and I should be expecting a quick rejection? :scared: They couldn't even spare the cost of one little holiday greeting card + postage on me? I suddenly feel so lonely +pity+

...totally not serious btw
... actually I am serious *cries*

And again Pitt is such a tease!

Oh, and while I appreciated the holiday wishes, I don't appreciate getting unmarked envelopes in the mail...

nicest rejection letter ever

OOS, 3.7, 38+, 3 yrs clinical work w/ pubs....sent in secondary in october. fail.

oh well.

Rejected just a minute ago, via email. Complete 9/26, 3.5/36

Totally fine. I have interviews at lots of places I love, and one acceptance. It's nice of them not to put the rejects in re-review purgatory.

pre-interview?

nudge nudge, anyone?

read the FAQ page on the secondary application site.

"When is it an appropriate time for me to follow-up with the UPSOM?

Our Admissions Committee welcomes letters of intent/interest and updates to your application. The most appropriate time to follow-up with us is following your interview or after the receipt of your official admissions decision. Communications can be sent via postal mail or to our admissions mailbox at [email protected]. Any communication received from the applicant will be included in their admissions file."

Waitlisted, which was expected but still disappointing...interviewed early November

+1. Waitlisted as well, but most people I know at PittMed got in off the wait list, so I'm cool with it. Just have to hold out a few more months!

Yeah, my student interviewer really made a point out of not getting frustrated with the waitlist at Pitt. At least we know they are going to accept a good amount of people from there as opposed to other places that don't.

Waitlisted today for me too... interviewed November 7th. I was surprised to find out so soon, they told us to wait until January. I'm a little annoyed by the amount of people they waitlist, but I suppose it is their way of gauging interest from applicants, so if you REALLY want to go to Pitt you really should send a letter of intent. That's my opinion anyways

Does Pitt reject people off the wait-list or do they allow people to ride it till the first day of class? I know Vandy has a week around June where a lot of those on the wait-list are rejected and some are accepted the week after.

I know people ride until the first day, not sure if there are rejections along the way. Talking to an MS-1 at my interview, one of her friends was admitted a week before orientation.

Rejected by email this morning just before 9 Eastern. pre-interview.

Complete early-mid November
