All quiet on the western front, eh? 😳

I interviewed 11/16 and they said we might have a decision before Christmas. Waiting sucks. And what's worse is that most people are put on the waitlist. So I'm waiting to find out if I'm fortunate enough to be up on the waitlist (as long as it's not a rejection I'll be happy enough!)

therefore... I'm really just waiting to be waitlisted... :scared: Something seems wrong with this whole system.

Well one of the posters who interviewed 11/7 found out last Thursday. I interviewed the same day as you, so maybe the decision will be coming sooner than expected..

Waitlisted today for me too... interviewed November 7th. I was surprised to find out so soon, they told us to wait until January.

👍 here's hoping

and best of luck to you :luck:

Waitlisted today. A wave of new decisions must've been sent out.

Has anyone asked admissions when they expect to start taking people off the waitlist?

Majority of movement is in late February and March.

I'm wondering if it might be earlier this year since they are going to finish interviewing earlier than they ever have (I think next week is it).

I interviewed mid november. I really hope I find out soon!

I just recently got a publication and I wanted to update Pitt...How have people gone by updating them, as in where should I send it to??

I'm assuming you're post-interview since pre-interview updates are meaningless at this point (Pitt's last interviews are this week).

From Pitt's website:

Our Admissions Committee welcomes letters of intent/interest and updates to your application. The most appropriate time to follow-up with us is following your interview or after the receipt of your official admissions decision. Communications can be sent via postal mail or to our admissions mailbox at [email protected]. Any communication received from the applicant will be included in their admissions file.

Waitlisted (at least it's not a rejection! *staying hopeful*)

Interviewed Nov 16

PITT Y U NO GIVE ME LOVE?

Interviewed before 11/16 yet I still haven't found out. Hoping that's a good thing.

waitlisted. thought interviews went as well as possibly could... really loved the feel of the place.

waitlisted too. i thought my student interview went great, but my faculty one was so-so

interviewed 11/22

Waitlisted - interviewed end of November - got the email in a couple of weeks.

Accepted elsewhere and have other interviews. Loved Pitt, BTW.

To the people waitlisted, did the status on the website change? Don't wanna be bothersome but I interviewed a few weeks before most of the people who said they were waitlisted and was just curious.

When I was waitlisted the status changed. They send you an email informing you "that your status has changed", and then you check the website to get the actual results.

Did anyone else get an additional email about waitlist, aside from the status change one?

Yes my status changed to "The Admissions Committee of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has decided to place you on the waitlist at this time."

That was on 12/15 and I interviewed 11/16

I just got a letter in the mail that said "This year, the Admissions Committee has decided to initially accept fewer applicants out right and instead will accept a larger portion from our wait list. In the spring, the Committee will certainly be giving your application further consideration and begin offering admission to the applicants on the wait list. We will continue to update you as the year progresses."

So for those who are bummed about being waitlisted, there is definitely still hope!!

Quick question! I sent an email with an update after my interview, but I never received a reply. Has anyone sent an update, and did you get an email back from Pitt? Thanks!

Within a couple of hours of sending an update email I received a reply. However this reply only answered a small question I had (I kind of made sure to ask something so I would know if they received my message or not).

Hi guys, quick question, I'm just wondering about student life here, do most students live in shadyside? or what are the most common housing options?

I'm an undergrad at Pitt, so you can PM me if you want more info about the area and what to do there.

Shadyside and Squirrel Hill are the more popular neighborhoods. Shadyside is a very nice area and is usually more expensive. Squirrel Hill is farther away but is usually cheaper. You get free usage of the Port Authority bus system (well, not really free...included in tuition/fees). If you bring a car (not necessary for Pittsburgh, but I have my car this year and it is pretty convenient) a residential parking permit is $20 for a year. Street parking is free in Squirrel Hill and there is also some free street parking in Shadyside. You can buy a commuter parking permit to park on campus for a year for ~$300, and if you have roommates, you can split it!

Students also live in Oakland, although it's more of an undergraduate housing area. It's usually expensive, but you're also a 5-10 minute walk from class instead of a 15-30 minute bus ride. North Oakland is very nice but expensive, South Oakland is shady but pretty cheap.

There's also the Hill District. It's up the hill from the medical school and there are nice apartments for a reasonable price. Just be ready for a workout 🙂

They probably talked about this during your interview, but they offer medical student housing (Darragh Street Apartments) but they are quite expensive compared to off campus options. You pay for convenience!

The Darragh apartments are actually pretty affordable if you live with a roommate. The 1 bedroom apartments are pretty expensive, but the 2 bedrooms aren't bad. My roommate and I pay $590 per month each, which includes electricity, utilities, cable, internet, and excellent maintenance.

Just wanted to add. Your points are spot on but two comments...

-Weather or not a car is necessary in Pittsburgh really depends on the individual. If, for example, you're going skiing over the weekends, are in hockey leagues around the area, and don't spend most of your day in Oakland, then I'd say a car is necessary.

-The Hill District would be for those who wouldn't mind more of an "urban" environment.

I know there are nice apartments on the outskirts of the Hill District which are very nice. It's call "Oak Hill Apartments" and they also have townhouses there. It's pet-friendly and it's newly renovated. They're really nice, and they're close to the medical school building (Scaife hall). That's an option for people who want to live close to the med school but don't want to live in Darragh. I don't know how expensive it is now, but I know they're not as cheap as some of the things you may find in Shadyside/Sq Hill/South Oakland.

For anyone who is skeptical about the Pittsburgh atmosphere or living in Pittsburgh, it's been named one of the top 20 places to travel in the world by NatGeo. 👍

Oak Hill Apartments are hit or miss. I believe about half of the development is Section 8 housing, and there have been a few shootings, drug deals, vandalized cars, etc in that area. That said, I do know people who live up there and their apartment and surrounding area is very nice, so just be sure to tour YOUR APARTMENT before signing a lease.

Just got an email about a "status change" on my UPitt account, but I'm too scared to check because of the highly likely possibility of being waitlisted. Gah. Maybe I'll check in the morning before I work out so I can put my anger to good use.

I can't make Pitt's second look, so I plan to check out the city more on Jan 14th and 15th. If there are any other accepted students (or current students) in Pittsburgh during that weekend who want to meet up, send me a PM!

Did you get an email telling you exactly when second look is? I don't remember getting an exact date and having heard from them since I was accepted in November.

The second look date is in the acceptance letter mailed to you - last weekend in April.
