our admissions committee really looks at you as a person, not just as a set of numbers. don't worry so much about how you stack up numerically or with ECs

Out of curiosity, what is your area of interest?

Cardiovascucular Physiology

So Hemodynamic studies(large vessel blood flow circulation. But i've done projects with lymphatics and microciruculation), Cardiac Mechanics, Vessel mechanics, electrophysiology.

So the problem is half of it is Bio-Eng

A lot of schools have cardiovascular and electrophysio work though. Like TCOM for example

Good to know. I love this school and would love to spend 4 years of my life here.

We finally got this bad boy 2 pages. Huzzah!

Thanks for the info! I was just at this school 🙂

Reading about everyones everything makes me feel bad haha. You mean you didn't do five years of research with a Nobel laureate/don't have a 45 MCAT/didn't have a 4.1 GPA?

Tell me about it! I had a heart attack the first time I logged on and read everyone's everything... pls let me get a left over seat!

Yeah! I am a volunteer at Methodist hospital so I stopped by for a bit.
cool. I imagine there wasn't a whole lot going on around there since it's summer and all. if you guys ever want to meet with the admissions staff or a current student to discuss things, we're available.

of course we're also on here..

Well since I'm in the area every Monday and Wednesday, I would be glad to! How would I go about doing that?

you could email [email protected] and tell them who you'd like to meet with (admissions vs. student)

I'm over at LBJ but if I ever at the med school I'd be happy to meet with you

You're at LBJ? Awesome. My first shadowing experience at LBJ was with a resident and his 3rd year student there.

👍 Join the club haha

I had such a bad dream last night- I was part of a group of us SDN's premeds that was dancing (yes dancing!) to disco music... the more we danced the more the texas schools phoned in to offer us interviews!! Seriously I was sweating and working it for hours!!

Man here's hoping for a better interview week!

Haha! That's hilarious. Too bad it's not like that lol

Hey y'all. Let's hope we all get invites to this great school. Did anyone besides me go to the reapplicant workshop back in late April? I enjoyed it.

Nice work lax. I got to speak with Dr. Gleason, and things went well. You? Let's hope they remember our commitment when it's interview time. I'm sure both our apps have improved!

haha, I talked to Dr love and she was like... "you know we interviewed you last year cause we thought you were kind of interesting..." I guess the subtext was that I wasn't the most qualified applicant ( I applied with only 74 credit hours with grades as a 3rd yr college student). But yea I have a better GPA and more clinical/volunteer/research experience and everything. I even got an upgrade in major from just history to history, Ecology and evolutionary bio (EEB), and a minor in bioc, so hopefully it will work out this time around.

I guess that goes with the whole theory that medical schools will interview marginal but interesting applicants? One of my interviewers even asked me what my plans were if i didn't get into med school last year. Its hard to say, since theres so much information on forums that may or may not be true but its hard to get in touch with the actual admissions people. On that note I may contact that email address armybound send out...

Nice work, I think my greatest improvement is my MCAT. Going from the 20's to the 30's.

If you're wondering if they'll remember that you were at the reapp workshop, I assure you they will.

That's reassuring, thanks. I figured they probably would.

the admissions office just posted on Twitter that they'll start interview invitations in mid-August

Hey sorry to ask this again, but I'm going to Houston this weekend - did you say that we could swing by the campus and ask them some questions if we email ahead?

Also, does doing this help in any way (like how it sort of does for college), or is it purely for our information?

Thanks

it would be possible... they usually don't work on the weekend, but you may be able to meet with a student. which day will you be here?

most of us on here should be able to answer any questions you have, or you can PM us.

visiting campus usually doesn't help your chances.

I'll be there Saturday - Monday - and that makes sense, I'm sure everyone on here definitely knows their stuff.

Med Schools have twitter accounts now !? 😳 I don't even have one...lol
What are their account names anyways?

the admissions office's is UTHAdmissions. there's also UTHouston and UTMedSchool

if you're applying, I'd recommend following UTHAdmissions

UTH is my top choice! I'm from Houston and my parents work in the medical center... I love Houston so much, I don't want to leave (again) for school.

Shadowing an ER doc here tomorrow. Excited. Hopefully I can get a couple of more shadowing opportunities before the summer ends.

Yay August! Hey armybound, were you interviewed/accepted early in the app season when you applied to med school?

Yeah, I was fairly early. Not everyone can be, obviously, so don't think that being early is the only/best way to get accepted. There are a limited number of interviewers per interview day. Your chances at the end of the interview cycle are about as good as at the beginning, at least at UTH.

Cool. I have heard from many students on SDN who interviewed late (even applied late), but still were accepted. It's just hard when others already have several interviews. But they say good things come to those who wait. I like how UTH waits until August. :xf:

I think there have been some changes in the admissions office recently which may have delayed things a little. Don't worry, interviews will come.

Hey Dude, Your a non-trad as well right?

Yeppers. I'm in my late 20's. Applied twice before, but no inteviews. However, I have now graduated from college and improved my MCAT.

I'm in similar boat- just remember we have a lot more stuff for the schools to go over and review so we might just take longer to process than the average applicant + we have "maturity" 😛

Yes, absolutely. Plus I'm thinking to myself the schools are just being thoughtful and interviewing the younger students now. Before they begin their senior year classes, and they have less time available. 😀

Lol, that's a good thought
BTW I'm late 20's myself
