Thanks! And to answer your question about the scholarship, I am in state, high stats, and have not heard about a scholarship. It's not that they explicitly said I won't get one; they just didn't mention it.

I'm wondering if they give out most of their scholarships to OOS students so they have in state tuition. I was thinking my stats didn't merit a scholarship, but from what you say it seems like that's not the case.

I wouldn't be too hung up on it: I feel extremely fortunate to have just gotten in so any scholarship money is purely a bonus. 'Tis the holiday season, time to drink, count our blessings, drink, and be merry and drink!

+1. Sorry, didn't mean to start a URM rant. Congrats to everyone who got in, atleast now we don't have to stress out over acceptances during the holidays

For those who have attended the Friday evening program, would you recommend attending it? I'm still on the fence about driving to Dallas early to make this or not.

When does the "evening" program start? If it's just dinner, you're not missing much. I thought the Friday afternoon info sessions were helpful, though.

Does anyone know if/when they'll be making more Pre-Match offers? If I interviewed at the end of October and still haven't heard back, does that mean I'm not going to during the Pre-Match at all?

It goes from 1:30 to 5 pm if I'm not mistaken. So yes, I think we're talking about the same thing. I will probably go ahead and attend it in that case. Thanks for the heads up!

How many interviewees are usually at each interview day??

So 50-60 potential interviewees at the Jan 7th interview day. And we have until Jan 10th to rank schools on TMDSAS. When do schools have to rank people by? Do you think they will even have time to review and decide on the Jan 7th interviewees in time for the match submission deadline?

Match day is in February. UTSW will have evaluated your file by then.

In addition to the WhatYouSay's response, match day doesn't matter much for UTSW. I'd say they match ~10 people (just an estimate, may be more or less). Most acceptances are usually pre-match or off the alternate list.

So if I interviewed back in late October and haven't heard back yet, does that mean my chance of getting a Pre-Match offer is gone? Are the rest of the Pre-Match offers going to those upcoming interviewees that have dates through Jan 7?

I didn't know they matched that few people. That makes me so nervous!

Thanks Whatyousay and Laplace 🙂 Now I just have to prep for the interview and hope it goes well. (After I get through finals, of course.)

Unfortunately, no one really knows how pre-matches are doled out (I know a few friends with 36+ MCATs and no UTSW prematch). Based on last year's thread, UTSW should have another pre-match date in the future, but whether or not that date is reserved explicitly for later interviewees isn't too clear.

Quite a few people get into UTSW after match day off the alternate/wait list, so keep those fingers crossed! :luck:

Don't fret too much if you don't match. As someone else said UTSW matches very few people. A lot of people do get in off the waitlist (I was one of them). I even had a friend get in in June! So even though I know its hard, be patient. 🙂

Is UTSW awarding scholarships to mostly URMs this year?

Uhmm i don't know about that. I am URM but I am also a PhD candidate with tons of ECs in research and at Parkland as well. I would credit my ECs for the scholarship i got

If you say so.

i think a lot of us enjoy your posts regarding the process and the encouragement you offer. No need to leave the thread, just leave the urm bs for the pre-allopathic thread. You got into one of the best and cheapest schools in nation! You are the envy of most people on sdn. In addition, remember that the scholarships given out are contingent on good academic standing.😉

+1000

does anyone know when the second look is at UTSW?

I remember them saying a lot of people bring their family to the multi cultural celebration but I think that the event lasts the entire weekend. They encourage you to stay with a student host so your guest might have to find a place to stay. This is all based on my memory though so I'm not positive about any of it

That sounds right. I would think they would allow guests. I live close to campus, so i won't need a host. But i'd definitely like to bring my significant other on second looks to help in making my final decision

The second look is a recruiting event. I'm pretty sure they'll allow a significant other along if that recruits you to their school.

LOL, has anyone seen this??

Description of video:
"In the summer of 2009, a small contingency of second year med students embarked on a artistic endeavor to create a welcome video for the entering medical school class at UTSW. This is the culmination of their efforts. Enjoy!

Note: These are UTSW med students. But the video is in no way, shape, or form affiliated at all with UT-Southwestern Medical School or Medical Center"

Just received a confirmation email from UTSW saying they've received my acceptance form, plus a nice little message telling me how happy it would make them if I attended their school.

The admissions people at UTSW have been a class act. Fast, efficient, and polite 🙂

Agree 100%. UTSW seems like the type of institution that would feel like family once you attend.

Received your email or mail? Just making sure I'm not missing out on something here haha

Lol. Makes more sense now! I mailed mine in Monday so I should be getting that email in few days I guess

Did you mail in Dallas? I mailed mine on Monday, and got the e-mail Tuesday, really quick.

No, I mailed it from Abilene...and, well, Abilene is just slow at everything so I think it'll probably arrive tomorrow lol

I was going to ask whether you attended ACU but then I just decided to check your MDApps. Mind sharing why you withdrew from Baylor? All my friends seem to like Baylor more but I'm sort of 40-60 on Baylor and UTSW (in the case that I even get into Baylor)

This statement is 1000% true. The first thing you do here, PREOP, is a great experience, and it does a great job of getting everybody together and making you feel like one big happy family.

Also, Drs. Mihalic and Wagner are the best deans and do their best to make all the students feel welcome. As 1st years, they invite you in groups of 20 to have lunch with them to they can get to know you better. Then, as 2nd years, they invite you by colleges to their homes for dinner.

They. Are. Wonderful!

For me at least I honestly was having a tough time choosing between Baylor and utsw too until I got the official letters from both and didn't get any money from Baylor. I live in Dallas and would have to move my sister and significant other with me. So no money no incentive basically. Plus I really don't think 1 is necessarily much better than the other. There are a few differences between them. Plus I've been at utsw for almost 4years and love it here. It really does feel like family.

Purely location. I set the goal several years back to make it to UTSW because both my wife and I are from the Dallas area and we really wanted to be back home for medical school. I think it's important, especially for her, to have plenty of family and friends local for support because med school's going to be tough on us both. I got into UTSW on 11/15 and my Baylor interview was 12/3, so I knew I wouldn't choose Baylor over UTSW so I withdrew (would have cost money to travel to Houston and hopefully someone else got my interview spot).

Hi All,

I'm interviewing next Saturday at UTSW (12/10), and I was wondering if anyone knew if pre-match offers would be over by then? Will we have to go through match?

Thanks!

Well from what i know some people who interviewed 11/12 got offers about a week after 11/15 offers went out. I would say you may have a shot at getting an offer pre-match i.e. prior to the end of december:luck:

I would think more pre-matches will go out, but your best bet is to ask at the interview day.

Hello all. I interviewed on the first day and am OOS. I was wondering whether any of you who have gotten acceptances were also from out of state. I was recently told that OOSers didn't participate in the match system.

OOS don't participate in the match system, you can get an acceptance at any time, but it seems that the texas schools send them out about the same time they send out prematches. A few OOS applicants posted that they got accepted on here. back around november 15th and a week after.

Does anyone know how long it takes the admissions committee to turn around an application after an interview? I had heard somewhere that they actually get it done as quickly as Thursday following your interview? Has anyone pre-matched within a week of interviewing? I just interviewed today, and I am guessing there are not many available pre-match spots.

Thanks everyone.

I think they have set days in November and December when they release pre-match offers rather than giving out pre-matches after each interview session.

They said today that they have been giving out pre-matches each week since 11/15.
