I just talked to the admissions office -- I interviewed in early November and was supposed to be reviewed at this last meeting on November 16th. They said they were unable to review all of the applicants that they had planned on reviewing. So, there are some people who will be pushed back to be reviewed at the next admissions meeting on January 10th.

Just wanted to give you a heads up in case there's anyone else in the same boat. Try to relax and stop obsessively checking the OAC every 10 minutes, like I had been -- Until January 10th, of course..

Happy Thanksgiving!

Congrats to all the accepted students!

Does anyone know if they go over waitlisted students during their meetings at this point? I wonder if anyone who was waitlisted last month got in today. Some more wait for me...sigh.

Interviewed early September, waitlisted last month, and accepted yesterday. So they do review waitlisted students. Hang in there!!

JANUARY 10TH!? That seems like its light years away!

applied in august.

not pooled, no II, no rejection...nada.

Just to be sure: vermont does email interview invites, right? Ha, I just wanted to ask because they don't email about the small pooling

Got a free day the Monday before my interview. Any tips on places to check out while im in Vermont?

There are lots of great things to do here! You can check out the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, Shelburne Farms (not sure if they are closed for the season), or Ben and Jerry's. I would also check out the shopping on Church St. and the Christmas tree that they just lit up. You are also welcome to join me for a class if you're interested. Let me know what your interests are and I can try to help more or give directions.

Are there any Rock climbing gyms around campus? My host doesn't get home until 6 so I have a day to kill

Yeah, check out Petra Cliffs, it's awesome. Also, if you do end up getting in here, we have one of the best outing clubs on the east cost, and theres tons of rock climbing trips going out all the time... Interviewing on Tuesday the 29th? I am!

Yes, I am interviewing on Tuesday 🙂 Sounds like you live in Vermont. What will you be doing on Monday?

UVM couldn't set me up with a student host, where have people been staying?

I'm free for the rest of the day, give me a call! I messaged my number to you!

I stayed at the Best Western Windjammer. Special UVM rate of $75/night, plus they have complimentary breakfast and give you a voucher for $10 to the on-site Windjammer restaurant (I ate in the upstairs pub, and it was honestly pretty good). Free wi-fi at the hotel and it's only a 5-minute drive from campus. Would definitely recommend it for your pre-interview stay.

is uvm still sending out interview invites? i've been pooled since august and haven't heard anything since.

Yes, they send out invites through the end of their interview season in late-March/early-April. Read through the Secondary threads from past years for a more detailed picture of the process.

+1. Definitely the best deal. They also have complimentary shuttle service from/to UVM COM and the airport.

My flight actually got delayed so I was stuck at JFK for like 5 hours -_-.... I really wanted to explore Burlington, but I think im just going to crash, I'm exhausted.

Anyone leaving right after the interview tomorrow (11/29) and want to split a taxi cab fare back to the airport?

I stayed at the Burlington Hostel. It's extremely clean dorm room hall style living (a bunch of of bunk beds, communal showers) for pretty cheap. It was around $32/night when I interviewed in October. Its a mile away or a 20 minute walk from campus.

Thanks guys...I ended up booking a room at Days Inn on priceline

So im an OOS reapplicant and Ive been under review for about 5 1/2 weeks now...did it really take everyone that long to get out of the 6-8 weeks of under review status??

I was under review from 9/2 until 11/12.

I've been "under review" for over 9 weeks now... I wonder if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I don't think it is either really. It seems pretty random. Maybe it just depends on which reviewer's stack your app is added to, and the speed of that reviewer. I was under review for ten weeks, and still got pooled.

My application was pooled late August and I didn't get an II until just last week, so I don't think you need to worry too much.

I'm also an OOS reapplicant, and my impression is that the process has a certain degree of randomness with regards to timing.

I submitted my secondary around ~9/1, was complete ~9/7, II on 10/11, interviewed 11/1, OOS waitlisted 11/21. While under review I checked my status on the OAC pretty regularly and never noticed a change to the small pool - it likely did change, but only for a very very brief period.

Really hoping for some waitlist movement in the near future (though realistic that the interview season has a long way to go and that WL acceptances will probably trickle out slowly)...I'm normally really relaxed, but this limbo has me checking the OAC with neurotic repetition. 😛

Hey everyone!

Thought I would join the discussion. I interviewed back in early October. I'm an in-state applicant and was put on the in-state waitlist about a month after I interviewed. I was wondering if any other Vermonter's are currently on the waitlist as well, and also if anyone has successfully gotten off the list. Oh and if anyone wants any information about Burlington just let me know how I can help!

IS waitlist is similar to OOS waitlist, you can be accepted at any time from this point forward. It can take a long time, but it's not over until August. The major difference is that your odds are much, much better as IS.

Hello fellow Vermonter. I interviewed back in September, and I was at first put on the waitlist then accepted 1 hour later (October 21st). Being waitlisted as an IS applicant is normal.

I was a reapplicant from the 2010-2011 cycle. Last year I interviewed in December, and I was put on the waitlist in Feburary. I stayed there all the way till August.

I would highly suggest writting letters of interest every 2-3 weeks, and be sure to make a phone call too. I found it best to follow a pattern of letter first then wait 2-3 weeks then call then wait 2-3 weeks then another letter and repeat till August.

The letters are extremely important. If you do not get in this cycle, you should apply again (if your stats are average or better). You can reapply even as you sit on the waitlist. They will not offer proper consult on why your application was not accepted since you are on the waitlist. However, they will imply directions.

I am not sure, but I believe they will take into consideration your previous application (all the good things you did in the previous cycle) for decision in the reapplication cycle. They love commitment to UVM.

As for my stats/information, MCAT 31, cumGPA 3.71, graduated in 2008, lived in Vermont since May 2008, many years of volunteering (emergency rooms, habitat for humanity, etc), published 5 times (1 first author paper), presented posters at UVM Neuroscience annual meeting and national conferences

I have never met another IS applicant on SDN, and I am not sure if my case is the "norm." But there is my story, and I wish you all the best. I hope to see you there. Be very excited that you are on the IS waitlist. It is a great sign.

Does UVM acknowledge receipt for letters of interest?

Yep. When I sent a letter of interest (~2 weeks ago) I received an acknowledgement a couple of hours later.

Yes, they will e-mail you back and tell you that it has been added to your file. On a side note, I believe your MD Application is all electronic.

wow..............i just got pooled today...............complete in sep. oos.......suprised and happy..........or should I not be?

No idea, I've been pooled for a month and it hasn't gotten me an interview invite yet.

Yeah, be excited!! You can't get an interview without being pooled!

I got an interview without being pooled, BUT, many people who interview get pooled first.

Is anyone else who interviewed early October going crazy? I have a $1,000 deposit for another school due on 12/15 and need to know so I don't throw a grand down the drain. Thoughts?

can't you get a full refund on your deposit if you decide to go somewhere else? i remember people putting down deposits and always being able to get them back if they got into a school off of a waitlist or were accepted from multiple places and couldn't decide.

i wish you would. this one is completely non-refundable. blows.

Anyone know If we become eligible for in-state tuition after our first year at UVM?

Nope. During the financial aid portion of the interview they mentioned that it's highly unlikely anyone will be able to gain VT IS tuition rate - getting married doesn't work, buying land doesn't work, etc etc.

Personally, I wouldn't consider this a barrier to matriculation, but it is something to know.
