Does anyone know if LORs are read before or after an II? It says in the interview FAQ that the admission officer who will interview the applicant won't have read them.

They are read by admissions. Then they give you an II. Your interviewer will not have read them before meeting you.

Hey guys, UVM runs a standard 8-5pm schedule for its first year right? Thanks guys!

The schedule is different for each class, but I am in the midst of Human Structure and Function right now! Classes usually start at 8 am and I am done around 3:00 pm. Occasionally classes start at 9:00 am, and one day a week (either Tuesday or Thursday) I have an additional class from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. I have Wednesday afternoons off!

Then what is the preliminary review in which we are small-pooled based on?

Can anyone who interviewed here give their thoughts of the school, student life, the Burlington area. My flight to Burlington is the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend and its going to cost me close to $700. Basically I just want someone to tell me how awesome this school is so I don't feel so bad about the big hole is my wallet

Can anyone who has interviewed tell me if I am cutting it too close. My interview invite says the day should be done at the latest by 3:30pm. My flight leaves at 4:30pm. I am not familiar with the area so I do not know how bad traffic is and how busy BTV airport is. Thanks!!

Edit: This is the only flight that leaves after 3:30 that day so if it's too close I'll have to stay an extra night and reschedule =(

It depends what interview slot they give you. I think one was 1:30 and the other 2:30. Also, it shouldn't take you more than 10 mins to get to the airport. Burlington is a nice and quiet town.

I think you will be 100% fine. I interviewed there two weeks ago. Call Mary Keefe, the interview coordinator, and ask her to make sure to schedule you at a 1:30pm slot. You will be done with the interview at 2:30. The tour at 2:30 is optional so you can either take it, you will be done at 3:15pm and you can be at the airport by 3:35. It is literally a 10 minute drive from the school, even less. You'll be good. The Burlington airport is very small, one terminal and its quick to get to the gates in the back.

Don't worry 🙂 Just enjoy your interview and knock 'em dead!

This school is AMAZING. I haven't talked to one student who has not been satisfied with what they have seen at this school. Trust me, it is love at first sight. From the curriculum, to the students, the faculty, the rotations, their flexibility, everything. You will love it there.

Thanks for all the advice guys!! I actually looked at my calendar and 11/29 is the best interview date for me. I guess I'll just call the admissions office and hope that I have a 1:30 interview. Either way, I'm super stoked to go to Vermont!!!! It's almost November and it still gets up to the 90's here in Vegas somedays 😡

II. Sent an in area email. Good luck y'all!

I am a first year at UVM and I honestly love it here! I am blown away by how kind, supportive, and intelligent my fellow classmates are. I can't imagine going anywhere else and I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have been the last person admitted to UVM last year! PM me and I will answer any questions you have! I hope I get to meet you at your interview!!!

does anyone know if there is a facebook group for accepted students or anything? 🙂

Congrats to all those with invites! I've been small-pooled since 9/7 and haven't heard anything since - should I just interpret that as a hold?

Send an email to the lady in the interview invite letter. They seem flexible, but keep in mind you can reschedule once.

Thanks ^^ . Also does anyone know how many interviews are given, and how many acceptances are usually given (total)? Does anyone know a more detailed breakdown of OOS/IS acceptance numbers. Just trying to get a feel for my odds.

These numbers make no sense...

I think they actually do make sense, no? One is the number of OOS students and the other is the total number of students (not-in state only). It might seem confusing if you are trying to add the two, but one consists of the other.

Hope that helps.

Actually, does anyone know how people are pulled off the waitlist? Is this decided at an admissions committee meeting? if so, does anyone know when the next admissions committee meeting is?

Rejected via Status Update. OOS, complete since July. Good night University of Vermont

Is anyone interviewing on Nov. 1st and wants to split a cab back to the Burlington airport after the interview? PM me if you're interested 🙂

They don't make sense because the numbers say that more people applied OOS than applied in total.

Numbers are fixed below:

LOL. That is wierd. I didn't notice that. Nice catch!

Only 74 people apply from in-state? and they interview 61! that's crazy!

That is with waitlist im assuming. So it looks like the odds are like 1/3 (slightly worse) ~31%

PA resident here, its been 8 weeks since I got my MCAT scores and went under review. Does it typically take this long or can I assume there will be a rejection coming?

Interviewing here on November 1st. Incredibly excited at the opportunity to visit and experience UVM. I absolutely love the curriculum, the facilities, and the overall attitude and atmosphere.

Hey guys, UVM runs a standard 8-5pm schedule for its first year right? Thanks guys!

Hemeresearcher is in HSF, which is a crazy busy time for 1st years in a lot of ways 😳. So yes, you will often find yourself at school all day. Other classes the schedule is different - eg the course director for Attacks & Defenses (the course after HSF) deliberately leaves most every afternoon open - he wants you to go skiing 👍 it all really depends on the course, the director, and what the curriculum calls for at that point: Hemeresearcher is taking two courses right now, but will be taking three starting in March, etc

Then what is the preliminary review in which we are small-pooled based on?

your Ls o'Rex are read by admissions, they extend an interview invite based on your complete file. I don't know if your interviewers have seen the letters or not when they interview you.

you need to interview here 😀 some have said to reschedule the interview, but i can't believe you can't do better than $700 unless you are coming from outside the lower 48. http://www.kayak.com

as others have said - ask for the 1:30 slot. they should be able to accommodate you. getting to airport in time shouldn't be any problem. it's seriously the best airport i've ever dealt with, and living <20 minutes away doesn't hurt either.

every year the AAMC does a survey of exiting MS4 seniors and asks them how satisfied they were with their medical education... the average for US schools is 93%... ours is much higher 😉

Actually, does anyone know how people are pulled off the waitlist? Is this decided at an admissions committee meeting? if so, does anyone know when the next admissions committee meeting is?

waitlist movement can happen for anyone at anytime from this point forward.

I am also curious as to when the committee meets. This seems to be the million dollar questions. Does anyone, maybe current students, know if they meet on a weekly basis, every other week, monthly etc.

Can any current student please comment on the diversity of the student body/faculty/patients? Greatly appreciated!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!! I emailed admissions and they insured me that I would be done by 3:00pm so I'll be able to make my 4:40 flight. I'm flying in a couple days early to check out the town though 😀

The student and faculty body isn't all that racially diverse, but I don't believe that it reflects a preference by the admissions committee. Rather, I think it is a reflection of the applicant pool to medical school. You can get the exact numbers from the MSAR book. The UVM undergrads seem considerably more diverse. There is a significant refugee population in Burlington including Burmese, Bhutanese, Somali refugees.

There is an incredible amount of diversity of experience. Lots of nontraditional students, parents, older students, people who have done research, people who studied primatology in Africa, people who travelled the world, history teachers, actors, etc. Never a dull moment here!
