Wow that is awesome that you sent so many loi's.Do you mind if I ask about your letters of interest? Did you say that you were very interested in the school multiple times or were they also update letters?

They were also update letters. I was published, received several awards, and reached 1,000 hours of volunteer work. My letters included the update and my reasons for wanting to go to UVM. One of the letters was my top ten reasons for loving the school. I think it is important to demonstrate not only that you want to go to UVM, but to seem knowledgeable about their program. They want to accept students that love UVM and that will become physicians in Vermont.

I also called every other week. I never inquired about the status of my application. I simply restated my interest.

I hope this helps!

Is there any of the current student here?

Recent graduate of UVM here. Probably can't speak in as much detail as Hemeresearcher about the application process since I'm a few years removed from it, but I'd be happy to answer any general questions about the school and about my experience there (which I couldn't be happier with - I'm only a few months in, but so far I feel that I was extremely well-prepared for residency). Good luck to all that are applying now! 🙂

Thanks. That helps alot. Vermont is definitely my top choice (well behind the mayo but that's probably not going to happen). If I could only be pooled.... 🙁

I was browsing through last year's thread and it seems like pretty much every OOS gets waitlisted first. Is that given? If any current students have any info to share regarding this, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

With very few exceptions, out of state applicants are rejected or waitlisted. They may only be on the waitlist for a matter or hours, but they could be on the wait list for months. I was on the waitlist for about 5 months!

Thanks for the info Heme! I wouldn't mind being put on a waitlist as long as it turns into an acceptance eventually.:laugh:

Yup, agreed - every once in a while someone comes around who is OOS and got directly accepted, but that's the exception not the norm. For most, being waitlisted as an OOSer is a good thing; it's similar to being "small-pooled" at the beginning of the application process: doesn't mean you'll get in but it's a step in the right direction - it's better than the alternative of being rejected. I was waitlisted for about 3 weeks before getting accepted.

May I know the top 10 Reasons Please?

Some of the reasons were tied into my personal application, but here are the reasons that I think apply to everyone:

1. Vermont Integrated Curriculum - one class at a time, Pass/Fail/Honors, anatomy, histology, and physical exam for a given organ system at the same time
2. Extra time in rotations - 15 months of classes and the opportunity to do three rotations before anyone else starts
3. patient-focused research - I gave specific example of researchers. I want to be a doctor who does research to help patients, but not a researcher
4. Vermont - I went to Middlebury undergrad and love the state
5. Green-living - which has always been important to me

The rest was about Neonatology, volunteering, etc. which were very specific to my application

Yes, that's what I've heard. As an OOSer I am hoping for the waitlist, unfortunately, I have to wait another month to find out :xf:

Has anyone had experience with the efficacy of updates to UVM? I'm really interested in the school, but I feel like with a mediocre GPA and being a FL resident they may be iffy. I was pooled over a month ago, and I have some interesting clinical research with which I could update them. 🙂

I think you should go for it.

Has anyone heard anything? I interviewed on 9/8. I logged into the applicant center about a week ago and it said "Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We will be contacting you shortly regarding the status of your application". I'm OOS so I guess i'm hoping for a waitlist, but an acceptance would be great too 😀:xf::xf::xf:😀

+1 and in the same boat as an OOS, though I've definitely heard direct OOS acceptance is super rare. But here's to hoping, UVM is a really amazing place!:xf:

I withdrew from my scheduled November interview yesterday. Good luck to all of you!

When I interviewed last year they told us when the admissions committee was meeting again so we knew when to expect to hear back. Did they give any of you that information? They don't meet as often as most of the other schools I interviewed at.

They met today. so we should be expecting the result soon, maybe tomorrow.

Anxious to say the least. I really really really really want to get in :xf:

Please don't get your hopes up that you will hear today or tomorrow. I know how difficult it is to be waiting, but remember that I waited about 14 months before I was accepted! They will give each of your applications the attention and time that it deserves!!!

So I submitted my secondary 9/2 and haven't been pooled yet. Anybody else submit around then and still waiting?

Ya, I also submitted right around then and haven't heard anything.

Oh my fricken goodness, I just logged into my status page and it said:

Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We will be contacting you shortly regarding the status of your application.

Please excuse me while I crap in my pants. I interview last Thursday (10/13) and I absolutely cannot believe that they made the decision so quickly!

Hopefully something good!

For those that have been accepted or any current students on the list, how long does it remain like that for?

I submitted early Aug so its been >8 weeks and still haven't heard anything. Does anyone think it would be bad to call?

I was told that everyone who has already been reviewed will hear today or next week :xf:

OOS waitlist....

how long do you guys think we'll actually have to wait before hearing our final status? Will we really have to wait till spring/summer??? any current students have insight?

I guess the OOS waitlist is better than a rejection at this point....

ACCEPTED!! Notified by email just now. Interviewed 10/6. 3.7 GPA, 34Q MCAT, OOS (California). No words describe how I feel right now. I applied to close to 30 schools, and this was my first and so far only interview/invite. I was starting to get concerned, but now with this... wow, huge weight off my shoulders.

ACCEPTED!!!! So excited, couldn't believe it, OOS 🙂

I have also been placed on the OOS Wait List. At least it is not a rejection. I interviewed last week (10/13). The wait continues....oh so patiently...oh so sarcastically... 🙂

Hoping they pull another hoosier86 on me and change my status soon 🙂

Did anyone else who interviewed on 10/13 hear back?

That's awesome haha!! Shortest waitlist time ever.

Congratulations to all the acceptances, was very happy to get their email this morning too!! Wasn't expecting it since I'm
OOS but absolutely loved this school.

Contgrats to all who have been accepted!

I was extremely surprised to be accepted right away as an OOS 😍

ACCEPTED!!! OOS, interviewed early October, so very excited! was NOT expected to hear anything for a long long time from this school which makes the email acceptance I received this morning even more amazing! Now if only I could somehow afford this awesome school....

Best of luck to those of you still waiting to hear back!

Congrats everyone! I hope I get an acceptance as well. :xf:

Does Vermont do a lot of out right rejections post interview or is everyone thrown into the waitlist?

ACCEPTED!!! OOS, interviewed in the first half of October, so a very fast turnaround!!! 😀😀😀

I did. In the same position as you: OOS waitlist, which hasn't changed yet, unfortunately. sigh.

Accepted!!

IS
31N MCAT
3.71 cum gpa
Complete: Early August
Interview: September 29th
2nd time applicant (interviewed last year and placed on Vermont Waitlist)

This is my #1 school!

FINALLY POOLED. Complete 9/4. They *do* take their time. Can anyone graciously tell me what the average time, if any, there is between being pooled and potentially interviewed?

It took a little less than a month for mine.

OOS waitlist. I thought the interview went SO well. I just don't understand this process anymore. Sigh.

Congratulations to those accepted!! 👍

Hey guys, UVM runs a standard 8-5pm schedule for its first year right? Thanks guys!
