komikos - when did you take the MCAT? Still on hold at Wake while they download my scores (8/12).

NVM - just checked my status - I have the "You are under review. When your review is over, you'll get an email" status. Got that last year too - right before a rejection. . . Keeping hope alive until it's official, though.

Dude I'm in the same boat (13/6/11) but I have yet to get the secondary... I guess if it only has 2 essays it might as well be worth doing (if I get it)

I applied pretty early, got screened in, and submitted soon after. I haven't received an II. Does this mean I'm not in consideration and just gathering dust in a stack somewhere?

im in the same boat...i guess we're just going to have to wait it out :/

My primary application was verified on 9/16. I received an email from Wake on 9/27 (two days ago) saying:

"Your application for the next entering class has been received from the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Our office will contact you when further information is required.

If you wish to see the status of your application, click on this URL (Please Note: this is not our Secondary Application, its only a link to check the status of your application)"

When I go to check my status, it says "You will be receiving notification of your application status by e-mail."

This was two days ago, and I haven't received a rejection email. From reading through previous posts, it seems as though this is the message you receive prior to receiving a rejection. Since I have yet to receive anything, and the email says that the office will contact me when further information is required, could that mean that I'm not necessarily rejected??

I guess I'm just searching for a glimmer of hope here 😀

There's still good reason for hope. My status had that for a couple of days before I moved into the "you'll be getting our secondary by email" category. Hang in there!

What kind of opportunities does Wake Forest provide for its students? I've been browsing the website for a while now looking for things that can help me with a 'why do you want to go here' essay, but I'm not finding much. Research opportunities? Summer trips? One of the schools I interviewed at last year mentioned that students could go in to the hospital and shadow if the doctor's have time for it. Does Wake Forest have the same policy?

Where do students do their 3rd year rotations? I'm interested in pediatrics, and Brenner's looks awesome, but I'm not sure how much interaction students have with Brenners, and it would look stupid if I mentioned it if students don't have many opportunities there.

Their website is overloaded with info. Try clicking around!

I keep trying to add a specific link to a page here, but it's not letting me. Darn wifi.

Did you look at their bulletin
http://www.wakehealth.edu/Bulletin.htm

What's the environment like at Wake? Competitive or collaborative?

The bulletin doesn't mention Brenner's role for a med student. Can anybody shed some light on that? Please?

Even if a school is competitive, I don't think anyone will ever tell you that (unless you got them drunk first, maybe?) 🙂

I don't really know why anyone would have any reason not to be truthful about it assuming they're not leading a tour through the school. Everybody knows that some schools can be competitive. Everybody is competitive at some level. I just want to get any idea of the level of competitiveness at Wake. I don't want to go to a school where people steal books to keep others from studying. Maybe it's an urban myth...who knows...but you know what I mean.

I'm interested in pediatrics, but I can't find anything that would indicate that Wake is good at preparing students for pediatrics besides the fact that a good number of them go into pediatrics. Brenner looks like an amazing place to learn, but I don't know what kind of access medical students have with Brenner. Their pediatric interest group doesn't have a website that I can see what sort of things they do.

The students all seemed very laid back when I was there, whatever that's worth. I'm interested in pediatrics also, and I imagine that Brenner provides the same opportunities as most other large academic children's hospitals

Maybe a current student has more to add...

Brenners is just part of the main hospital, so I'm pretty sure peds rotations are done there.

As for how competitive Wake is... it's hard to say. I never get the impression that my classmates are particularly competitive. There is a ton of collaboration going on, my inbox reached it's limit this week because of all the study guides that my classmates sent out for our upcoming exam. There are definitely students who are more intense than others, but for the most part, we are generally a pretty laid back, social bunch. Honestly though, you will get hammered with so much work at times that you really won't have much time or effort to think about how other people are doing (at least that has been my experience thus far), which actually makes it less competitive. Truth be told, this is really the case at just about any medical school and you will likely hear this from every student from any school so take it for what it's worth.

Screened in!

MCAT
26M- 9 PS 7 VR 10 BS
27M- 8 PS 9 VR 10 BS

3.90 cGPA
3.84 s GPA

I am still worried that my MCAT scores are going to keep me out, but I am glad they are giving me a chance. I have good EC and have always done well in school....just not the best standardized test taker

WF is so slow in processing the secondary. WTH? THey are still uploading my letters because they do them in batches. So inefficient.

On a different note, have a lot of people been rejected post-secondary?

I am in the same boat! I have 29P (12 PS/7VR/10BS) and I got screened in, but I think that 7 in verbal is gonna keep me out too 🙁

a couple weeks ago, i got an email asking me to reply to another email address confirming my interview date/time. did anyone else do this and not get any sort of response or acknowledgement? not sure if i should be expecting a reply or not...

I interviewed already and did not get a reply after confirming my interview date/time. On that matter, does anyone know when WF starts to send out acceptances?

its possible they will go out tomorrow.

First acceptances can start going out after Oct. 15th for all AMCAS schools

Not entirely true...October 15th is the earliest they can send out acceptances, but many schools don't start sending them til after that date.

Look at the MSAR. Wake forest starts sending out acceptances oct 1. At interview day they said they could do this because they start classes earlier than most other schools.

I know it's a bit presumptuous and there has been mixed feelings about it on SND, but has anyone had success with an "in the area" email pre-II??

I'm going to be in Raleigh for my sister-in-laws birthday mid-Nov and it'd be awesomeeee to hop up to WF while I'm over there...

any experiences with this to share? 🙄

Does anyone know if acceptances will be going out today?

Hi guys! I was just wondering if Wake sends a complete email after submitting the secondary. I submitted my secondary last week. Thanks friends!:xf:

Yes - I got mine about two weeks after I submitted the secondary

Complete email too!
Secondary received: Sept 10
Secondary submitted: Sept 22
Secondary completed: Oct 4
Interview invite: ____:xf:
How long does it take to receive the interview (if we do after completion email)?

Anyone who has interviewed this season, can you comment on format, stress level, emphasis?

Thanks!

You will have three 20 minute interviews in a row. The interviews were very low stress - mostly conversations about what you like to do in your free time, your family, how you deal with stress. They asked a couple general questions about research, leadership, and volunteer work, but nothing tricky. Good luck!

Same experience for me. The interview day was very informative.

any acceptances yet? I interviewed the week of 9/26 and they said we'd hear back around Oct 12, but I'm surprised no one from an earlier date has received their decision yet.

+1

I interviewed the same week, and am similarly interested to hear if acceptances have been given out

Anybody interviewing this Wednesday?

I'm staying at the Hawthorne in and flying into greensboro. What's the best way to get from the airport into Winston salem? I see there's a shuttle of some sort? Does this run regularly or do you have to make a reservation to take it?

If you're talking about the PART bus, it runs regularly and the fares are posted online. You may have to do some creative bus hopping though, depending on where the airport offers shuttles to. The easiest option will likely be an airport shuttle to one of the PART stops, then a part bus to the W-S bus station and then a bus or a cab to the hotel. I would call the PART folks and explore the website (partnc.org) The fare is pretty cheap and almost all of the routes offer a student discount with your ID.

Are you staying at the Downtown Hawthorne on High Street?

I took the PART bus to the hub, then the bus to the W-S stop, then I walked to the Hawthorne Inn.

Rented a car, was definitely worth it and only like 30 bucks

During my interview we were told our decisions would be out the week of October 5th. I should have known that meant waiting until at least October 12th.

Maybe they decided to just wait until the 15th?

That's definitely possible. It's not that I feel particularly impatient- they just made a point to tell us all about their earlier start, earlier deadline to drop a held acceptance, and earlier ability to release decisions.
