I interviewed a few weeks back and the staff mentioned that it would be this Wednesday, April 4th.

Good luck to everyone still waiting and for those of you accepted/enrolling I'm excited to meet you all at orientation in July!

Just got off the phone with admissions. The ADCOM meets tonight and notifications will be emailed approximately two weeks from now.

TWO WEEKS!!!! Sheesh!

I was a "competitive" applicant in all aspects (teaching, research, work, volunteering) except for my mcat score, 31, with VR score, 7. And my nonscience GPA was 2.8. Is quitting my current job as a pharmaceutical chemist and going back to school to get an economics degree for the purpose of showing I am capable of nonscience academia a good idea.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like a smart move to me...If you don't think an economics degree would help you be a better physician someday, I wouldn't do it. Spending all that time and money just for the sake of proving to an admissions committee that you can do it seems like a waste. Plus, I think it would look like you were less committed to medicine rather than more so if you were going back to school for a non-medicine-related degree. (But that's just my opinion.)

Are you sure that's what they said? Looking back through the older posts in this thread, it seems that most people heard back on the Friday after the meeting (2 days later).

I agree that it seems like a step too far, but I don't think it would make you seem less interested in medicine. If med schools thought that way, they wouldn't accept so many non-science majors or non-trads. They want you to be genuinely interested in things outside of medicine, too.

Note the "genuinely." If I were an interviewer, I'd ask you "why economics?", and would hope you have more to say than "to prove to you that I could do things besides science."

If you're wishing to stifle concerns about that non-sci GPA, maybe you could take 2-3 non-science night courses that you're interested in (without committing to a long and expensive degree program) to demonstrate your academic ability.

You can do it!

I wouldn't. That is doing too much for very limited benefit. Non-science GPA is not really important in the grand scheme of an application, a 7 on VR is bad though. I would consider retaking your MCAT. Teaching, research, work experience, volunteering, etc. all that is secondary to grades and MCAT. It doesn't matter if those are competitive, you can get away with weaknesses in those areas if your grades and MCAT are strong, but not the other way around. If your overall grades are fine, then don't worry about your nonscience GPA too much. If anything is a deal-breaker on your app, it's the 7 on VR. That can make other seemingly unimportant things suddenly stand out a little more (for example, weak VR score+weak nonscience GPA+weak writing score=red flags, even though the writing score and nonscience GPA are pretty minor things otherwise).

In the past it has always been two days after the adcom meeting... I got waitlisted two days after they met (and hopefully will get in!) I heard it is the last adcom meeting. Maybe it is longer because of that?

If it is the last adcom meeting then do they rank the waitlist in anticipation of May 15 and later?

any info on waitlist? how many on wait list, how many get accepted off the list, etc etc? any info would be appreciated

A few posts back someone called the admissions office and they said there is 300 on the list. If you get waitlisted, the letter will tell you about how much of the class comes off the list each year, I think it is 30-50% but don't quote me on that.

hello everyone!

I was accepted today off the alternate list, for those who are wondering what sort of progress is being made!

I just joined SDN recently but thank you all for sharing lately, it's been helpful during the waiting process!

Good Luck!

any tips on how to become more prepared for VR section. I got a 7 and aiming for a 10 this summer. I already used the prep books. I wish I could find the source of verbal reasoning passages.

I would try the MCAT subforum or this month's featured article on prepping for MCAT verbal. This isn't the correct thread/forum for this type of discussion.

In my alternate list letter, Dr. Wells said that about 30-50% of the actual class that matriculates is from the alternate list. I also saw that they offered something like 276 acceptances last year for their 120 person class. Judging by that, it would seem that about 150 people get in off the alternate list.

I asked how big the alternate list was last time I called, and was told that it already had over 300 people on it. That was before the last adcom meeting, so there are even more on it now.

The alternate list is huge, but there is still hope!

There are a lot of people on the alternate list. However, I am sure these numbers will be drastically cut down after the May deadline. I would assume most people with other acceptances will want to make a decision by then and may no longer be interested in Wake so these numbers will most likely start to shrink.

Also, with so many people on the list it is probably a really good idea to continue to show your interest on why you want to attend through updates, letters, extc. Wake seems to "like being liked" I did not even get an interview until I wrote them a letter on why I liked the School so much. So good luck to all on the list. I am sure if you continue to show interest your efforts will be rewarded🙂!

when is the "may deadline" again?

Multiple sources suggest that the deadline to drop any other acceptances for Wake Forest is April 15th, since the class starting date is before July 30th. Can someone accepted to Wake confirm this? The admissions office said that the wait list will really start moving the last week of April/first week of May.

The date for Wake is the same as the national deadline date May 1st.

Withdrawn from the alternate list. Good luck to you all!

With some sadness, I have withdrawn my acceptance from the fine institution of Wake Forest. I hope one of you guys gets it. Best of luck to everyone!

has anybody called and asked his/her position on the waitlist? has it been determined yet?

I know I should send them a letter of interest, but I think we should get accepted based on our own merit, not for sucking up to adcom.

This is not a " sucking-up" type of letter. I should have been more clear in specifying that it is a letter of intent not interest, and a letter of intent is by no means " sucking -up". I am just speculating that at this point in the cycle you already have and hold multiple acceptances. SO why do you still want one from Wake? Are you just trying to collect as many as possible while others are still waiting for one? If the answer is NO and Wake is your number one choice you need to write them a letter letting them know that.

Put yourself in the position of the ADCOM. At this point you would want to fill the class with the most qualified (your own merit not sucking-up) candidates from the alternate list, but you would also want to know they were committed to Wake and not just staying on the wait-list to get another acceptance. Also, If many students who have extremely close GPA's MCAT scores LOR's and EC's as you remain on the list and they write letters saying they WILL go to Wake if accepted (and list true and personal reasons why) if you were an ADCOM member these applicants would get priority over those who have shown no interst in the school at all.

I am by no means trying to persuade you to write one. I just know if Wake was my number one choice (which it is and I cant wait to attend next year because it is freakin awesome!) then let them know! You have already done so much work and made it so far in the process to let the pride of thinking a letter is sucking up perhaps keep you from getting accepted would be a tragedy.

Good luck I wish you the Best!🙂

I completely understand where you're coming from. I can't honestly say Wake is my top choice, but it is a VERY close second. I really wanted to go there before I interviewed. I was a tad underwhelmed by their facilities... I was also a little "put off" by not being accepted. I bit immature, I know, but I felt my numbers where so far above their average GPA/MCAT that I would get in. I still know it is a GREAT school, though. Basically, I don't want to write them a letter committing to attend because I'm not sure if I would if I were accepted.

I am in the same boat as you here. Stats way better, interview went extremely well, was one of the first round of people interviewed, and was wait listed. I think part of it has to do with my background and goals (I have a PhD already, and I was honest and clear in my personal statement and interview that I wanted to do academic medicine and go into administration someday, which freaks some adcoms out from what I understand). I chose to write them to let them know I was interested, because Wake narrowly squeaks by as the top choice for me for financial and personal reasons. It's a little deflating, because I found out that I got into my second choice (Keck) three weeks after my interview, and they've been actively recruiting me while I've been begging Wake to let me go there instead. I feel really lucky that I have options though, so I'm trying not to be bitter about it (which is really hard, because I am NOT the most patient person) 🙂

Nope think it's gonna be quiet up till the end of this month/early next month. the wait is killin me :scared:

Called today and they said that the waitlist wasn't ranked and they weren't sure if it would be ranked this year. I never ask the good questions, and so I'm not sure how many people are still on waitlist or how many they expect to pull off. I guess we'll find out shortly. Good luck, everyone!

Is there a Match List from this year? I just wanna look at certain specialties.

Just withdrew my acceptance, good luck to everyone!! :luck::luck:

Then what are they going to do, just pull names out of a hat? Out of the schools I interviewed at, Wake definitely has the least transparent admissions process.

Lol, I think what they mean is they're going to constantly review all the applicants as spots open up, which probably means that they're not just gonna go by stats. that's just my best guess, I could be wrong.

Just withdrew my acceptance offer from Wake Forest! I hope that one of you gets it. Expect a lot of movement today/tomorrow! Good luck, friends!

Yep, ranked waitlists are a bit of a misnomer anyway. Even if it is ranked, schools still have a goal for their class composition which they continue to try to fulfill when pulling applicants off the waitlist. For example, it's likely that when one student withdraws, they evaluate their waitlisted applicants to find another student similar to the student who withdrew. I can't say for sure that this is how it's done at Wake, but it is the general par for course for waitlists at a lot of med schools.

I was accepted off the alternate list this morning! I loved Wake Forest so I'm so excited.
