I live in PA and working full time so I couldn't go to the information session 🙁 . Can you share what you learned about the school? What you really liked, disliked. Do they have early clinical opportunities etc etc.

Hey everyone!

So I submitted my secondary September 14th and have yet to hear anything. This is torture!! Has anyone submitted their secondary near this date and received a response yet? I can't even take it, I'm checking my email like a psycho.

I submitted my secondary late August and got my II on October 5th.They started reviewing applications in September, I believe. I don't think you are out of the game yet. As long as you don't get an email of rejection there is still hope. I know it's difficult, we all feel waiting as a sense of torture. I recommend you try to loosen-up, and focus on a new hobby instead of checking your email. I feel checking your email initiates a positive feedback loop of stress. I've been there. If you don't make it this cycle, there is always next year. Stay positive and I wish you the best luck.

On their website, they say they are planning to have 80% in-state, 20% out of state.

I'm not sure yet- I have another interview in January, and it will depend on how that goes. But I will say i was VERY impressed by their program at Central.

I had a 32P (10-P, 9-B, 13-V), 3.6 science GPA, 3.9 non-science, 3.7 overall. BS in Math

I'm also from Northern michigan which probably helped me...
 
So we have at least 2 acceptances. I imagine that the first interview day had at most 20 people attending. Did anybody get a post interview rejection? Or will CMED just put the people that did not receive an acceptance into a waitlist?
 
I think that the first interview day was actually around 72 people - 2 sessions of 36. Based on what they said at the information session about their projected numbers, it sounded like your chances of getting an acceptance after interview were about 15% and that they were most interested in fit with mission. They definitely have a waitlist but it wasn't completely clear whether they were rejecting anyone outright post-interview or just putting a third group on some kind of hold that is separate from the waitlist. On the bright side, they will probably have some waitlist movement.
 
Really? There goes my confidence...A 15% acceptance after interview is pretty low. I guess a interview invite doesn't mean much. Anyone else going to the December 1st interview?

Wow! 15% is kind of crazy. I do remember it being quite a large interview group and I got waitlisted a little while ago from the October interview date. Good luck to all at the December interview!

It's kinda scary to think that on one interview day there are more interviewees than there will be students next year 😱

On another note, any IIs go out lately? Have they sent them out for 2013 yet, anyone know?

Don't let it sap your confidence. It sounded like they just didn't want to extend more offers than they had seats and they expect decent movement from the wait list. I'm sure the percentage of total acceptances (not just initial) will be a lot higher then 15%. Good luck!

It's a great experience. MMI format. Can't tell you much else or I would be violating the confidentiality agreement.

Do your research and google it.
 
I'm OOS and have an interview 2/7... which seems pretty late for interviewing. Those who attended the info session, only 60 spots or so available is that what was said?
 
Yep. 60 spots. 80% in state and 20% oos. As with every other school they have accept at least double. They did mention that they expect significant movement off the wait list come late spring
 
Hi everyone, I have a question about the interview. I received some information about CMU from my undergraduate institution a while back and it said that the interview will be MMI format and an additional 30-minute traditional interview. However, the information on the site doesn't mention the traditional interview. Could someone please clarify if it's only MMI or both? Thanks a bunch!

The interview today was pretty cool. MMI was fun and the faculty were very friendly!
 
I just got home from the interview a couple of hours ago. wow that was exhausting...
 
Very fun interviews. I just love CMED's sense of identity. They are so bold especially being such a new school.
 
Are they really backed up right now? I haven't heard anything for about 2 months now.
 
From what I heard during the tour, they are going to accept 64 students. They do indeed want a 15% acceptance rate. This means that they will interview about 360 people. This correlates to 5 interview days because there are approximately 72 people per interview day. They will have gone through 3 interview days by December 8. That means there will be 2 interview days left. They seem to be 1/11 and 2/7. They may even add more. There is still plenty of time to get an II. As long as you are not rejected, you are still in the game. Good luck!
 
From what I heard at the info session....it sounds like they will have a class of 60 students....but one of the deans was saying that to get those 60 students they will probably have to send out close to 150 acceptances...so your chances aren't really 15%/
 
That's very true. Being a new school, they are a very risk choice. They have no prestige or reputation. There wasn't much to look at on tour. There was a bunch of empty rooms that were promised to be filled by the start of school. CMED definitely has potential, but the first class will definitely be a guinea pig. Their acceptance rate could triple after waitlist movement, but that's a long ways off.
 
I went to the interview yesterday. This is my second time visiting CMED (went to their info session in October). I really love CMED! The faculty are very experienced and friendly. They are really going to let the students decide and work with them. They looked into other schools curriculum's and put the best of all of them together! I'm very excited...I hope I get an acceptance phone call! I can really see myself there. Let me know if you have any questions

Many other medical schools were once in this situation- UC Irvine, UCSD, OHSU, etc. I can appreciate an applicant's reservations about a new school. If the school is recognized by the AAMC, you're in good shape. If you won't go to a school, don't apply to it.

Being in the program gives you a chance to take the USMLE, and passing that is what really matters. Beyond that, a school's prestige is affected by what kind of training is given, the depth of the faculty, where the graduates match to. Applying to medical school is mainly about getting in though, and the future details can be taken care of later. I know people who are dermatologists, ENT & orthopedic surgeons who went to schools some pre-med students would not apply to. If you seek to become a physician, any medical school is better than none.

Congrats on the interview! How many applicants were in your interview group? A lot of out of staters? I'm OOS and will be interviewing in Feb.

Hi! i interviewed 12/1 there was about 30 ppl total at the interview if i remeber correctly. Don't stress out, it's gonna be fine =]. i really loved the school + campus. The people there are REALLY nice. When I interviewed, there was only 2 OOS. me and some other person from CA i think. i think I might be getting a snail mail sometime next week.... *excited*
 
Did anyone else hear anything about CMU hoping to recruit more IS students? Might be good news for the OOSers. Or, the ISers who are waiting patiently on the wait list....

80% IS 20% OOS, i think thats what everyone says.. I'm OOS so i'm hoping more OOS 😉 but i'm sure they got a good plan =]

At my interview they said they would likely be meeting on Thursday the 13th. Has anyone heard anything from the ADCOM? Keeping my fingers crossed that they just haven't gotten calls out yet...
