I was wondering if any current students could weigh in on computers at EVMS. I need a new laptop and I really want a macbook pro, but the technology form they sent us seemed to subtly discourage the use of a mac. Are mac's good to go or not at EVMS??? Also, it says we need a minimum 4 year service plan....wtf?!?!?! Who even offers a 4 year service plan? From what I can tell, Apple only even offers 3 year plans. Thanks in advance for any help!

I was just accepted. Currently still battling fits of tears and arm spasms...

Congrats! You give the rest of us on the wait list hope! Just curious, did they contact you find out via snail mail, email, or phone? Thanks! And again, congrats!

For those of you wondering, my stats are OOS (MD), F, 4.0GPA, 30P MCAT (12bs, 10ps, 8vr). Interviewed 3/29. I interviewed really well, which I think was what saved me. But honestly, don't give up hope, because I was pretty sure that my 8 was a death sentence.

I sent a letter of intent after my interview, but I didn't really do anything else to promote my application. I'm actually not even in the country right now, and my mom called me yesterday to let me know the letter had come.

I then proceeded to lose my mind, and the nuns I'm living with thought that I was dying.

Guys I have a question. If a Illinois applicant drops out, does a person have to be located in Illinois to be picked for filling the spot?

Just got the long awaited packet!!! IS, 35Q, 3.6 GPA, traditional applicant

Congrats!! 🙂 Out of curiosity (and hopefulness!) Would you mind sharing what tier you were on the WL and if you did anything after being wait-listed? Such as sending a LOI, calling and expressing interest, etc. Thanks!

I just know that I was in the upper 1/3 of the waitlist. I only sent a short letter of interest. Good luck!

I met with the Dean, Dr. Meyer today. He showed me a convenient little graph displaying the waitlist movement. He explained in the past 2 years, usually 24-26 people reject their acceptance in the month of June (and about 14 in July), but that this month, only 10 have done so. He also told me that as a reapplicant, I did not do enough clinical stuff to boost my application. At which point I told him I've been working in the ER for over 6 months. Turns out, my panel did not listen when I mentioned this and did not write it down. He said he'll bring that up to the committee this week. Maybe that'll help my chances?? *fingers crossed* Also, my LOI i sent in April never made it to my file...soooo I had to resend that to him directly. Ugh, I feel like everything that could have gone wrong, did lol.

Hmm... The waitlist movement is really super slow. Did he mention how many of the 10 are OOS?

Great information. Thanks for sharing. Btw how did you speak directly with Dean Meyer?

Waitlist is now 360 people, they pull people off from it until a week before orientation which is in august. 😉

No, I didn't think to ask how many of the 10 were OOS. Sorry =( I'm in IS, so yeahhh lol. I e-mailed him and then called his secretary and made an appointment. I live in Virginia Beach, so it wasn't difficult to set up a time.

It's cool thanks for your info=].

We can also figure out how many were OOS if you asked how many were IS lol

Hi, this might be an incredibly stupid question, which is why I'm asking it here instead of in the facebook group.

I still don't quite understand how the loan system works. I filled out the FAFSA and EVMS's financial aid application on time. Is there anything else I have to do to receive loan money? I'm not talking about scholarships, but the actual loans. I feel like an idiot, but am I supposed to do anything else to apply for my medical school loans? If I have done everything correctly, when do I receive the loans?

Thank you.

You should call the office (or check your evms email) to make sure they received everything. You should get notification of the award on July 13th (that's when u can accept all or whatever parts of it you want to accept). Then the money itself actually gets dispersed a month later.
Also regardless of whether you think it's a stupid question or not (I don't think it was) , feel free to post whatever ya got on the group.

To those recently accepted, congratulations!
Has anyone received the email notifying accepted students to start registering for orientation? The first email they send you upon acceptance of your deposit (the one with your evms email, id, pw, etc.) indicates that they will email you again regarding your email activation along with orientation registration approximately 60 days before matriculation. I haven't received any follow up email regarding orientation yet and it has already passed that 60 day buffer period. A little worried.

So i don't think anyone actually received the notification to check their email, but when the 60 day thing came, I know a lot of people did. Just log in using the info they sent youand you will see an email about orientation (tho we still haven't gotten the one about registering for orientation, just that we will get it 'soon')

Did they send you an email through your personal email address or the evms email address? I haven't signed onto my evms email because they said not to until I was notified. They haven't told me to activate my evms email, should I just log on to it anyways?

Yea just go ahead. For some reason they sent all the emails to the evms email which was silly considering they told you to hold off on it. I've been logging on for a week or two now and nobody has told me not to. Just be ready for a boatload of unread emails

The hyperlink to the VZ Orientation does not work for me. Can anyone provide it or pm it to me?

When registering for the VZ orientation, does anyone else get the message, "There are currently no available sessions at this time," in the Pre-Orientation Events section?

How's everyone doing lately?

I am becoming increasingly nervous about getting in! Haha. But how are you doing, Garrbear? Any news that you've received? Hopefully we'll hear something soon...
