does the app window ever change until you get an II? I got an email saying I was complete but the website still says to await email confirmation

how long did it take from submitting your application to receiving a complete status?

Hey guys, I am OOS with 27 MCAT, 3.8 non-science, 3.5 science.
I completed the secondary on Monday. Today I was rejected (2days after secondary), and I asked why. Here's EVMS response:
For all applicants we look for at least a 3.4 science GPA
In-state we look for at least a 28 MCAT, out of state a 30 or better

Thought that'd be helpful. Hope you don't waste $100 like I did!

Seriously, these sorts of things are the pinnacle of corruption. We should demand a law where med schools are forced to disclose their absolute cutoff point marked and updated CLEARLY on their official website before AMCAS opens every year and to post a "warning" label on their secondary emails. So corrupt. Many of us are already neck deep in loans from undergrad. It's an insult. Well, I just saved myself $100 and a buttload of brain energy better spent elsewhere. Thank you, JED1990 🙂

I've got some food for thought for you. No one forced you to apply. No one forced you to take out loans to go to college. If you don't like it, don't do it.

Pinnacle of corruption? Give me a break. Perhaps you should read the rest of the thread were other people respond about success here with points below that.

Will I get a secondary with a GPA of 3.54 and an MCAT score of 30R (VS-9, PS-9, BS-12)

After I applied, I received an email that said "thank you for submitting your supplemental application. You will be notified when your file is complete." that was July 27th. Am I suppose to get an email after this one?

Thanks!

Thanks NCMED mine has been submitted for more than a month and no completion email. Is that normal? Anyone else have a long wait till they were complete? I submitted mine on Jul 27th.

I got my email within 2 weeks of submission, but that might be because I submitted mid July. Your delay may be due to the high volume of apps they are getting now. Maybe calling or sending an email to admissions might be helpful?

I called them this afternoon and admissions told me there was no completion email...weird

I got the same email 2 days after submitting my secondary. Submission on 8/15, complete notification on 8/17.

That is so weird!! Why did the lady tell me they didn't do that. I don't know if I should call again. She was very nice though and took my name down...I don't know for what purposes

No one forced me to take out loans, and luckily I haven't had to take out much as an undergrad, but there really was no other option to cover what my scholarships didn't. Sure, I didn't like it and I certainly didn't HAVE TO do it, but I'd like to graduate college.

I actually agree that schools should make absolute cut-offs available. In the case of EVMS, if you've gotten through a secondary screening, you assume you have a shot and that they'll look at your total application. If that's not the case based totally on numbers, then I'd appreciate saving the money. The application season is sucking me dry so I wanna play this game reasonably; I could've qualified for a fee waiver if I hadn't included the small income I get from a part-time job (and that money goes to rent).

Anyway, I was complete 8/08 and haven't heard anything yet.

I have no problems taking out loans for my education. I WANT to go to medical school. No one coerced me. The only issue I have with med applications is that med schools are fully cognizant of their absolute cut-off points, yet they often, intentionally or not, choose not to share such valuable information, especially with oos applicants even if we personally call them. Why would they do that? (And remember I'm talking about absolute cut off points where nothing else you do matters in their decision.) Same thing with the change in the MSAR about not sharing school data in their book anymore, but rather separately online for another extra fee. I have an issue with the principle behind these things, not necessarily the $.

Welcome to running a business.

Why would they do that? (And remember I'm talking about absolute cut off points where nothing else you do matters in their decision.)

For example, who does this? As for not sharing cut-offs, you don't want to miss a stray gem that might not apply if you have hard-lined cut-offs like say Oregon (for non-mission). Otherwise, stated cut-offs are so low as to not matter (ie Michigan 8s/min 24 MCAT).

I already mentioned that I don't know why they told this specific individual what they did when it clearly isn't true even based off people that were not rejected last year or so far this year.

According to a reliable internet source which shall remain unnamed, the 10th percentile MCAT score of students admitted to EVMS is 27. So, clearly there is no absolute cutoff of a 28 for in states since 10% (14) of the matriculants have <27, so I feel inclined to question the validity of the above post.

Somebody just called me from admissions and invited me for an interview for next weds. Wasn't expecting this at all.

Yeah she called saying she wanted me to specifically interview for next Weds. Not really prepared because I wasn't expecting anything this early, I was complete last week so I got a lot of work to do.

how long did it take you all getting II to receive one after getting the complete email?

Current med students and locals...any suggestions for a good but budget hotel/hostel to stay at for the night before the interview? Already have the list recommended by admissions... Sheraton/Marriott (gulp gulp 🙁 ), Freemason Inn, Tazewell.

II yesterday. OOS, sGPA < 3.4, the cutoff must be a myth.

Mind sharing your complete date e-mail from EVMS?

I got my complete email a few hours before I got a call from admissions inviting me 😕. I sent all my stuff in around July 14-15, so I dunno if they forgot to send me a complete email or what.

This just happened to me. I called to check in my application and they called back far we talked saying an interview spot had opened up this Friday. That is 2 days away!!! Anyone who has interviewed here and has ANY tips on it? Also what is the deal with student housing? I need to be there this Thursday night... Any help and input would be greatly appreciated!

I think you are probably SOL on the student housing program... but there is a form on the housing website that you get to from the website with all the interview information.

The interview is a mixed bag. Most everyone has a friendly, conversational interview. However, definitely come in with some knowledge on what you feel the direction of healthcare should proceed towards in this country. Also, have some viewpoints on ethical situations and the ability to explain why you would pursue this. As always, the interview feedback section on this site will tell you the kinds of ethical questions they might ask (really there is only so much you can ask about ethics and healthcare... in the end it's the same theme).

Just relax and be yourself.

I called the admissions office yesterday to ask about the status of my application and after putting me on hold they invited me for interview right then. I couldn't be more excited!

Fell in love with EVMS during my interview. It's a very special, warm-hearted place and everyone is so nice 😍

The interview/ethical questions were not as bad as people make it out to be. Just know who you are and what you believe in and you'll be just fine.

Interview invite yesterday! I missed their call but they sent an email invite instead of leaving a phone message (I googled their number that called me haha). Stats are 3.6/32

Had a really chill interview there today, but because it was my first interview and they only gave me two days notice, I was nervous and rambled a lot haha. Loved the school and would be so happy there.

Hi guys, I'm still working on the secondary and I have to ask, did you guys ever find anything special about EVMS? I'm trying to complete the last question about why I want to go there but their website is giving me nothing. I'm thinking of just writing something about their research opportunities but that's just generic without any specifics.
